It's up to you if you choose to agree with it or not, but this very question is addressed in the Asgardia FAQ: https://asgardia.space/en/page/faq#faq_id_5 (I see it's already slightly out of date because they've started collecting fees). In short UK, Liechtenstein, the Netherlands, Sweden, etc. are kingdoms as well, not "democracies" (And US is a republic). Democracy itself has little, if anything, to do with the form of government. It's also easy to see why this is practical necessity: The Internet is full of "fully democratic" efforts which come together, nobody can agree on anything, and so they fall apart and accomplish nothing. Just one look on Asgardia's Facebook page shows how everybody wants to take the nation into a different direction. In theory (though there's also long political theory about the problems of direct democracy) you could hold a vote on every single issue and change direction based on that, but then it would no longer be Dr. Igor Ashurbeyl's vision that people are supposed to have signed up to, other people would leave and it'd be just another failed Internet utopia. Democracies as a rule don't just suddenly come into existence fully formed; there needs to be someone who takes initiative, charge and ultimately, initially foots the bill. Of course there's a danger the constitutional monarchy will go awry, but that has happened to many real world democracies as well. I'm not really inviting a debate on which form of government is best (And, again, that is entirely separate from the principles of governance and participation which should be democratic nonetheless), that's another ages-old debate, but pointing out the special circumstances of Asgardia's inception: being the realization of one man's vision, the lack of democratic institutions, democratic heritage and in most cases common ground of what democracy means with participants from all countries and walks of life. It would be currently trivial for example for a group of old-nation death-row inmates to orchestrate voting themselves into head of government and grant themselves asylum & immunity if it were meaningful and there were no oversight.

The first 100,000 being able to vote is only really for the first round of votes, or as I was to understand it. What happens after is up to them. Not really sure what that was about, struck me as unfair too. If I was to view this cynically I would suggest it's to make sure a botnet retains a larger %. Along such lines it's not overly surprising but slightly disturbing to learn the first 1000 or so are linked to Dr Ashurbeyli. What else they had a head start on in my name? Concerning the actual ability to vote, I personally push towards a "direct democracy" model, wherin each individual citizen has equal decisive capacity in all matters - and this would apply regardless of signup number(after the first elections, in June) and would open up for concepts wherin citizens like yourself that would like to get involved can simply involve yourself. It's the only way anything will get done. In such a model it's the citizen with any actual decisive capacity, the head of the nation would just be a figurehead position. IMHO it's the "fairest" way to procede and should ensure we are never moving in a direction the larger citizen base doesn't want to be going. Even if you are not in the 100k then your words can still carry weight. Input into procedings would ensure your personal viewpoints are considered. If you raise a point no one else has, and it's unable to be reconciled then it may cause a shift in opinion.

Hi DerekWang, I wanted to let you know that I have received an answer from a higher source that, "..if the person has an Asgardian ID, then they will be able to vote." So, receiving that answer should let you know that currently, the placement number is not a factor at this time. I hope this helps answer your question.

Yup, I have read the FAQ. The problem is that there are only 165k certified applicants and some are numbered as 400k or 500k in the second portion of their ID. I am sure it's written somewhere in this forum. It's not exactly important but it's always good to know that the numbers somehow reconcile with each other.

I would think that until proper sanitation and waste disposal is set up that pets would be less-than-idea on a space station with no gravity. Things that poop and pee in zero-G are quite messy. Yeah, that floating brown thing? Not a Tootsie Roll.

Hello, also from Finland. Saw that same news article and decided to apply, love the idea of international (or interplanetary? :D) space government welcoming citizens from all nationalities. Hope this developes beyond just being online community and has some real effect in the world, or space. Btw, did actually read Terms and Conditions, these days you can never be sure of what you are signing up for.
