So apparently people are using the upload form to bomb the satellite with 10 copies of the very same selfie, the same picture of a guy on a donkey about 20 times from different accounts, fascist symbols and about every picture of Atatürk they can come up with.

Don't get me wrong, this might all be part of human culture. But shouldn't it be checked from time to time, what people are actually uploading and if it is of any value? I'm not saying, your selfie isn't actually worth being in space, go for it. But why upload it daily? And if we are a nation of all ethnicities and religions, shouldn't someone check, fascist symbols aren't in there?

Which brings me to an important part: Once everyone who'd like to join earned their citizenship and is therefor enabled to represent Asgardia somehow, how exactly do we plan to manage these issues? How are we keeping trolls and political nationalist propaganda from around the world out of this?

I'm not going to include any screencaps from the stuff I found in the satellite gallery. But going through the archive, you can kind of see it for yourself. Gets me worried, if this will end up as the one platform online where you can send your trolling to space.

Versteckte Gemeinsamkeiten: Bei der Suche nach neuen Hochtemperatur-Supraleitern könnte künftig ein Blick ins Periodensystem der Elemente genügen. Denn russische Chemiker haben herausgefunden, dass die widerstandslose Leitfähigkeit dieser Materialien auf einer elementaren Gesetzmäßigkeit beruht. Demnach scheinen Verbindungen von Wasserstoff mit Metallen einer bestimmten Elektronen-Konfiguration besonders günstig zu sein – und diese lässt sich am Periodensystem ablesen.

Bei der Suche nach neuen Hochtemperatur-Supraleitern könnte künftig ein Blick ins Periodensystem genügen.

Supraleiter sind Materialien, die Elektronen ohne jeden Widerstand leiten. Spezielle Elektronen-Zustände im Kristallgitter dieser Materialien ermöglichen diese verlustfreie Leitung. Allerdings: Bei konventionellen Supraleitern tritt dies erst bei Temperaturen knapp über dem absoluten Nullpunkt auf – eher ungünstig für die praktische Anwendung.

Rätsel der Hochtemperatur-Supraleiter

Umso spannender ist die Entdeckung einiger Materialien, die schon bei deutlich höheren Temperaturen supraleitend werden. Darunter sind spezielle Kupferverbindungen, sogenannte Cuprate , aber auch der Schwefelwasserstoff (H ₂ S). Dieser wird unter sehr hohem Druck sogar schon bei minus 70 Grad supraleitend – ein Rekord.

Das Problem dabei: Bisher ist es eher Zufall, wenn Chemiker auf neue Hochtemperatur-Supraleiter stoßen. Denn der Zusammenhang zwischen dieser exotischen Eigenschaft und der chemischen Struktur dieser Materialien ist bisher unklar. Forscher wissen nicht, warum einige Verbindungen unter bestimmten Bedingungen supraleitend werden und andere nicht. Die Suche nach neuen Supraleitern beruht daher weitgehend auf Versuch und Irrtum.

Wo liegen die Gemeinsamkeiten?

Doch das könnte sich nun geändert haben. Denn Artem Oganov vom Moskauer Institut für Physik und Technologie und seine Kollegen haben eine Gesetzmäßigkeit entdeckt, die künftig helfen könnte, neue Hochtemperatur-Supraleiter gezielt aufzuspüren. Für ihre Studie hatten sie sich gezielt eine Gruppe supraleitender Metallhydride angeschaut – Verbindungen von Metallen mit Wasserstoff.

Ihr Verdacht: Vielleicht steckt hinter der Fähigkeit zur Hochtemperatur-Supraleitung ja eine bestimmte Elektronen-Konfiguration der beteiligten Elemente. Dann könnte man besonders vielversprechende Kandidaten direkt an ihrer Position im Periodensystem der Elemente erkennen.

Elektronen-Konfiguration als Wegweiser

Als die Forscher daraufhin einige bisher bekannte Supraleiter daraufhin verglichen, fiel ihnen etwas auf: Unter den Hochtemperatur-Supraleitern sind besonders viele Hydride mit Metallatomen, deren d-Orbitale nur durch ein Elektron besetzt sind, wie beispielsweise bei Actinium und anderen Elementen der Scandium-Gruppe. Ebenso günstig scheint die Elektronenkonfiguration bei einigen Erdalkalimetall-Hydriden zu sein.

Könnte hier das Geheimnis für neue Hochtemperatur-Supraleiter liegen? Um das zu testen, prüften Oganov und seine Kollegen nun gezielt einige Actinium-Hydride, deren Supraleiter-Status zuvor nicht bekannt war. Und tatsächlich: Diese Verbindungen erwiesen sich wie vorhergesagt als Hochtemperatur-Supraleiter. "Wir postulieren daher, dass Metalle mit einer p0 und d1-Elektronenkonfiguration und tiefliegenden leeren Orbitalen dazu neigen, als Polyhydride zu Hochtemperatur-Supraleitern zu werden", sagen die Forscher.

"Das Prinzip hinter diesem Zusammenhang zwischen Supraleitung und Periodensystem ist sehr einfach", sagt Oganov. "Es ist wirklich erstaunlich, dass niemand schon vorher darauf gekommen ist." Er und seine Kollegen hoffen nun, dass ihre neuen Erkenntnisse die Suche nach neuen Supraleitern erleichtern wird – vielleicht gelingt es damit sogar, endlich Materialien zu finden, die sogar schon bei Raumtemperatur supraleitend werden. Among the respectable choices made by the Asgardia committee, I frankly do not understand the need of a new calendar . Information Technology already gave enough problems with the Millennium Bug, where old systems were confusing year 2000 with year 1900. I really cannot imagine the huge effort required to implement technology which can parse and transform the new date system with every existing programming language. Even supposing that Asgardia really needed it, as a space nation, its calendar should not be bound to Earth. So, why use 365+1 Earth days in the first place?

I strongle believe, that an advanced society will not succeed unless it builds up a trust in the creative and cultural possibilities, arts and literature have to offer. As a writer I know that finding the solution to a problem can just as well occure while writing or reading a novel, reflecting on philosophical works, composing music or shooting a movie, as it does with logical thinking as it is required in science and technological advances.

Our use of technology today has been strongly influenced by science-fiction works from the past. NASA and the military are looking at familiar designs in TV-series and movies all the time, because they know that key to a working weapon, robot or type of building is that users feel like it is already familiar to them. We need to look at art to succeed at sciences.

Therefor in my work for and with Asgardia I plan to focus on developing plans and methods to actually use the arts, literature and philosophy of the past to enhance the future.

A vote for me as a leader will ensure that  I'll do the best in my power to sway our mutual government to follow the  goals of progress and technological advance. Security, Safety and  Profeciency should be the main goal of every progress our scientists,  engineers, programmers and designers make, whether it be state-funded or  a company under Asgardian law.

Seeing the development in AR  (Augmented Reality), VR (Virtual Reality), IoT (Internet of Things) and  Machine Learning makes me believe we, as a nation, need the drive of  capable leaders to put Asgardia on the top of these developments, to  make Asgardia - as a nation - contribute to these fields with the  resources available, so that one day, just like smartphones and the  internet became a part of our lives and of us, we may redefine what it  means to human and part of society with new technologies. Just like the  internet gave birth to Asgardia, who can tell what these new  technologies will birth? It is important Asgardia contributes to make  the Earth, and all future Asgardian and Human locations, a better  place.
