Is there a jobs list for the Asgardians? I have a few skills that I could put to work. Just curious. Eventually we will all need to be productive members for the Asgardian Society, probably best to get that ball rolling now.

Today, as I scrolled through Facebook, I was presented with Asgardia. Coincidentally two days prior, as I drove my kids to school, I said “ if we were hanging out with aliens cruising through space and said ‘hey, let’s go back to my planet’ and we get back home (home is Missouri) we couldn’t take our friends across the borders because we don’t have passports. That’s like inviting friends to your house and only allowing them in the living room.” They laughed of course. But I think this could be a a real issue. Obviously it is apparently!

With the new upgrade to the website, we see many welcoming features, such at a cleaner interface and more logical site organization.  However, it seems that the debate over the age requirement for Parliament has been decided without any announcement: anyone under 40 is unable to run for Parliament.  On top of that, those of us who were already running but too young have been shifted to something called "Government Candidates", a position which doesn't appear to be anything more than superficial (please correct me if I'm wrong in the comments below).

A lot of people put a lot of time into campaigning and maintaining parliamentary platforms, working under the assumption that there would be a cleaner resolution to the debate than simply an overnight, unannounced change and restructuring of the entire system.  This kind of sudden behavior does nothing to encourage citizen retention in our fledgling country, and we will have to work hard to make sure we are both more forward thinking and more upfront about our election process in the future.

Congratulations to all citizens, now and future, on the successful launch and release of our first satellite into Earth orbit!  On it are our founding documents: our Constitution, our National Anthem, and the writing and data of thousands of cosmic citizens, all in a small box emblazoned with our flag.  Truly a momentous day for us all!

Today marks a historic day for our nation as we launch out first piece of territory into space.  Let us use this as a time to look forward and consider what we want for our country, how we envision a true melange of people working together to make something that has never, and could never have been attempted before: a true Space Nation.

WE ARE AT A CRUCIAL POINT IN THE HISTORY OF HUMANITY.  THE COSMIC OCEAN SPREADS OUT BEFORE US, AS MYSTERIOUS AND INVITING AS THE BLUER OCEAN OUR ANCESTORS BEHELD.  THE STARRY WATERS ARE FULL OF WONDER, MYSTERY, DISCOVERIES WE'VE SPENT MILLENNIA PONDERING AND, I'M SURE, HAVEN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO ACCURATELY IMAGINING. AS THE HEAD OF YOUR MINISTRY OF SCIENCE, I WILL HELP UNCOVER THESE MYSTERIES, AND SPREAD THE KNOWLEDGE GAINED THROUGHOUT OUR SPECIES AND OUR NATION FOR THE BETTERMENT OF ALL PEOPLE.

MY GOALS FOR THE START OF OUR FLEDGLING NATION ARE AS FOLLOWS.  THEY FIT THREE CRITERIA: 1) WILL THEY IMPROVE THE PEOPLE OF EARTH, THE PEOPLE OF ASGARDIA, AND THE NATION OF ASGARDIA, IN THAT ORDER? 2) IS IT A DECISION THAT IS ECOLOGICALLY AND SUBSTANTIALLY SOUND? AND 3) WILL IT HELP PROPEL HUMANITY FORWARD AS INTERSTELLAR CITIZENS?

A) FIRST AND FOREMOST, WE NEED TO ESTABLISH LASTING PARTNERSHIPS WITH ESTABLISHED, TERRESTRIAL SCIENTISTS, ENGINEERS, THINK TANKS, AND MANUFACTURERS .  EARTH HAS AN INCREDIBLY INNOVATIVE GROUP OF THINKERS, TINKERERS, AND GREAT MINDS, AND IF WE CAN TAP INTO THAT RESOURCE, WE WILL BE ABLE TO OVERCOME OUR PHYSICAL CHALLENGES WITH EASE.  LIKE ALL EXPLORERS, VENTURING INTO THE UNKNOWN IS NOT A CHEAP ENDEAVOR, SO WE WILL NEED TO REACH OUT TO PEOPLE OUTSIDE OF OUR NATION TO HELP FUND OUR EXPLORATION, JUST LIKE THE BRITISH COLONIES OF OLD.  BUT HOPEFULLY WITH A LITTLE MORE PEACEFUL REBELLION.

B) ESTABLISH GUIDELINES AND PRACTICES FOR DISTRIBUTION OF RESOURCES AMONG THE CITIZENS OF OUR NATION .  ALL HUMAN CONFLICT UP TO THIS POINT CAN BE BOILED DOWN TO AN IMPROPER DISTRIBUTION OF RESOURCES.  IF COUNTRIES WERE ABLE TO ABOLISH HUNGER AND THIRST AMONG THEIR POPULACE, THE VAST MAJORITY OF TERRESTRIAL CONFLICTS WOULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED.  IN THIS MODERN AGE, FOOD AND WATER ARE NOT THE ONLY LIMITING RESOURCES, WITH INFORMATION AND HEALTHCARE BEING THE MOST CURRENT.  AND AS WE FORGE FORWARD INTO THE DARKNESS, WHO CAN TELL WHAT UNTOLD RESOURCE WILL MANIFEST ITSELF AT THE HELM OF OUR SHIP?  WORKING WITH THE OTHER MINISTERS AND THE HEADS OF STATE, I WILL WORK TO ESTABLISH GUIDELINES SO OUR PEOPLE WILL NEVER WANT FOR ANYTHING THEY NEED.

C) ADVOCATE FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF TECHNOLOGY CRUCIAL TO SURVIVE AND THRIVE AGAINST THE CHALLENGES OF SPACE. WE, AS A SPECIES, DO NOT CURRENTLY POSSESS THE TECHNOLOGY NECESSARY TO PREVENT DEATH DURING ANY PROLONGED SPACE EXPERIENCE, AND WE DO NOT HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY TO BRING US TO THE DISTANT BODIES WHERE WE WILL ESTABLISH BEACHHEADS AND COLONIES.  HOWEVER, THERE ARE A DEARTH OF PROJECTS HERE ON EARTH THAT SHOW MUCH PROMISE, INCLUDING ADVANCEMENTS AND RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF ROBOTICS, GENETIC ENGINEERING, MATERIAL SYNTHESIS, GROUP DYNAMICS, AND A PLETHORA OF FIELDS TOO NUMEROUS TO MENTION.  WE NEED TO ADVANCE CURRENT PROJECTS AND FOSTER INNOVATION IN RELEVANT FIELDS IN ORDER TO REINFORCE OUR SHIP AGAINST THE HARDSHIPS OF SPACE.

MY QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION ARE WELL EARNED.  AS A GRADUATE OF WARREN WILSON COLLEGE, I SPENT 4 YEARS STUDYING SCIENCE, AND MANY MORE AS A SPACE ENTHUSIAST LEARNING THE CHALLENGES THAT WE FACE SHORING UP OUR VESSELS AND HOMESTEADS AGAINST THE HARDSHIPS OF SPACE.  I CONTINUE TO PURSUE HIGHER EDUCATION THROUGH OBTAINING A DOCTORATE IN BOTANY, WHERE I WILL FOCUS MY THESIS ON BETTER ADAPTING TERRESTRIAL PLANTS TO GROWING IN LUNAR AND MARTIAN REGOLITH, AS ONE OF OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGES FOR CONTINUED SPACE HABITATION IS BOTH PRODUCING FOOD AND PRODUCING OXYGEN.  ADDITIONALLY, I TOOK ON LEADERSHIP ROLES BOTH AS AN EAGLE SCOUT FOR THE BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICAN AND IN COLLEGE AS A MEMBER OF RESIDENTIAL LIFE.

AS CARL SAGAN SAID, "WE'VE WADED A LITTLE WAY OUT, MAYBE ANKLE DEEP, AND THE WATER SEEMS INVITING."  VOTE FOR ME AND LET US CHART THAT COURSE, TOGETHER, WITH EVERYONE'S HAND ON THE WHEEL AS WE SAIL INTO THE GREATEST UNKNOWN WE'VE EVER FACED.

This is the time for growth,  we need all the ideas we can think of. As the head of the Ministry of Science, I will listen to your ideas and have our team determine value, and implement them with due credit.

We as the saving grace of the earth must strive to innovate and plan for the next 1000 years.  As the head of the Ministry of Science I will put Asgardia on the path to multiple space habitats , Power and Manufacturing facilities. Through the use of robotics and current technology there is no reason why we should not be able to achieve all our goals set forth.

1: Set up a income though mining necessary space resources to fund all production of space habitats, and solidify our place in the solar system.

2: Set up working relationships with technological innovators on earth with partnerships in industry.

3: Source robotics experts to design and build fleets of mining and construction robots.

This is the goal of my first one hundred days .
