As a Star Wars junkie and Trekkie, space has always been an area of great interest to me. When I first heard of Asgardia the first thing that came to my mind was the echo of Patrick Stewart boasting of leading a team into "the final frontier" and exploring "where no one has gone before".

We only have one Earth, and we (as a race) are destroying it. I don't just mean with pollution and war, but with politics, greed, and selfishness. Asgardia is a chance to fix these wrongs. Utopian-esque societies in the past have not been successful, and we have no reason to believe that Asgardia will be any different. But we must try.

Hope is a strong good and powerful tool, invaluable and unbeatable. We all want to take part in this venture in that hope of a better tomorrow, which is our right. To quote Alexander the Great, "Nothing is impossible to he who will try."

My plan is the following.  I'm going to quit my job to run an ebay store in October.  This ebay store will hopefully provide me with just enough money to survive.  Starting in January, I'm going to begin writing a book.  This book will convince people that we must genetically modify humans.  Smarter, healthier, and enhanced humans will be instrumental in the future of our civilization.  Governments must legalize it, and scientists must work on it.

Keep in mind that genetic engineering is quite a difficult problem.  At this point, we don't know how people should be modified.  There's alot of work that needs to be done to determine what genes are advantageous.  Even if we knew all this now and modified human fetuses today, it would be 20+ years before they would enter the work force.  So this is more of a long term plan.

I'm not a scientist.  I can't do genetic engineering myself.  I've looked into it a little bit, and I doubt that it's something it could even learn how to do within any reasonable time frame.  My goal is to resolve the ethical problems facing genetic engineers and lawmakers.  This should allow the removal of at least some of the barriers to performing the genetic modification of humans.

I plan to complete my book by the end of next year.  I will split my time between the ebay store and the book so that I have some small level of income during its writing.

No one really has any reason to to listen to me, but I believe I can solve ethical problems quite easily.  Genetic engineering is alot harder than ted talks by genetic engineers would indicate to you, but ethics is alot easier to deal with.

I have no idea what any of the different levels of leader in Asgardia will actually do, but I should have some amount of time to participate during the next year.

Now that Crispr has been developed, it's time to begin working towards the genetic modification of humans.  Now, I would like to point out that genetic engineering is really difficult.  We can't just poop out Superman tomorrow.  Rather, we need to study what genes have what effects in humans and find potentially beneficial genes to add in.  Then we should test these genes by inserting individual genes into groups of fetuses and then observing them as they grow into adults.  Some of these modifications will prove to be useful, while some may prove to be harmful.

There is risk, but we must embrace it for humanity to move forward.

I'm curious how accumulation of wealth will be handled upon ones expiration.  Would it could it be transferred to surviving family?  What of taxes in such cases?  What if the only surviving family is located on Earth?

When I heard about this project I thought it was something worth being part of but, now that a monarchial system of government has been decided upon I feel it is time to go. That system of government is too far removed from the ideals the project was founded upon and I do not believe such a governmental system can produce the type of nation Asgardia seeks to be. I also firmly believe it will not lend itself well to the goals of the project. Such a system will create divides amongst the people and make acheiving the other goals like none transference impossible. So, I am done with the project, I did not sign up to be part of something that will not adequately represent the citizens of Asgardia. Farewell to those who choose to remain and even if we did not see eye to eye it was never personal. I respectfully ask whomever handles these requests to remove my name as a citizen of Asgardia

I have been wanting to ask this question for a while now what exactly is an honest debate? I saw one poster use that phrase and I have wonder what one is since then. I ask because so often I see people discussing a subject but not pointing out problems with either a plan the discussion is about or the logic being used by a person that when examined proves to be flawed and needs to be rethought. Instead what I see are those same folks completely disregarding every attempt to make them aware of those flaws so they can address and correct them. While comlimenting each other on ideas they thinks are good ones or in other words mutually mentally wanking each other off. Which caused me to believe that when people say that they are not actually looking to hear or in case of the net read opinions that differ from their own. Rather they are looking for opinions that agree with their own, which to me means the debate wouldn't really be a debate. Of course, this is all just my own opinion based on the idea that in a debate you will get differring opinions on the matter and examining the logic behind them is an integral part of the debate

• It has been made clear to me that some folks think that Asgardia will be in a position to forgo having weaponry, in order to comply with a treaty that will be outdated by the time Asgardia has become a reality and is situated in space. Unfortunately, that is not and has never been the case. Asgardia will never be in a position to forgo weapons. The remoteness of the location chosen for the nation ensures that. Take defense for example, mitigating damage taken and purely playing it defensively, only prolong the inevitable result of being defeated should some hostile force from Earth or elsewhere attack. To successfully defend from an attack, you must eliminate the resources the enemy needs to attack you with. Another reason is because, Asgardia seeks to be a tech and science based nation who as far as Earthlings know could be developing horrific weapons. Which would naturally cause them to become paranoid and untrusting of Asgardia despite the government or the president stating that Asgardia has no ill intent toward the nations of Earth. Then there are the religious extremists who may consider a nation in space as an intrusion into their god's domain and decide to take drastic measures. Or, they may just be the ole fashioned extremists nutjobs who simply want to cause chaos, by dropping Asgardia as a whole on some unsuspecting folks and if Asgardia has no weapons at all, there wouldn't be anyway to stop such lunatics! Remember folks Asgardia will have to be able to solve all it's problems on it's own, help from Earth will not arrive fast enough to be a reliable method of dealing with issues that arise

Recently I have come across some in my opinion disturbing suggestions, attitudes, and revelations. Like Phicksur's question about a survelliance state, some "Illuminati" members having inftrated the ranks of Asgardia, and a defense only approach to defense. Before I go any further I want to clarify something for folks who may not be aware of it. After it's conception the group known as the Illuminati was a group solely focused on the gaining of knowledge mainly the kind that was considered as forbidden. Often times because the church did not want it getting out because it threatened to destablise and undermine their growing power. It was not until after the group was itself infiltrated by the church, that the group's activities took on a more sinister asthetic.

So, when folks mention the illuminati doing this or doing that, they are really referring to the operatives planted their by the church and not the actual group itself. Anyway back to the topic, considering the disturbing things I have come across and of course I mean by my opinion when I say that I have found myself wondering what exactly is Asgardia meant to be? I mean, I know what the founder wants it to be but, it seems to me like some other group or force is trying to steer the project down a different darker path. Am I the only one who gets that impression?
