Let’s face it guys, humanity is in trouble.

Once upon a time we were united. We sat in the trees, huddled together, flinging poo at the sharp-toothed things that wanted to eat us. The world was a scary place, and we stuck together to survive it. There was grooming, there was kinship, and enough fruit to keep us happy.

Then we discovered tools - and promptly cut down the trees. We made fire, then spears, and hunted the sharp-tooths - but then we turned the weapons on each other. And now, instead of flinging poo, it’s missiles tipped with extremely unpleasant surprises. Humanity is like a large-scale production of Lord of the Flies where someone forgot to yell ‘Cut!’ and nobody ordered catering. It's all gone quite horribly wrong.

So what do we do about it?

I say, it’s time to climb back into the proverbial trees, find a new pointy-toothed thing to be scared of and flex our collective flinging muscles. And I say Asgardia is the Nation to do it.

Humanity has tamed the forest of Earth, slashed and burned the trees, and is too scared to wander out onto the plains to look for more.

The next step is not a hop to the moon - it’s a jump to the stars. Ships are the new trees, and we need to take to them. Perhaps we’ll be aboard, perhaps only our digital agents and smart bots - but we need to start climbing.

The Fermi paradox suggests the plains might be empty and safe. It suggests that life should exist throughout the Universe, and if so we should be able to see it.

But I say that's a bit like a guppy suggesting that the land is a desolate place empty of life, just because he hasn't seen any shadows or movement on the nearby bank in the entire two weeks he's been alive technically correct possibly, but insightful? Not so much.

Things that like to eat rarely wave flags and ring bells for things that are about to be eaten. When is the last time you saw a tiger ring a dinner bell, or put up a poster advertising lunch? Fangs, claws and liquid nitrogen stingers are probably waiting around the back of every moon for the unwary; they just haven't bothered to send humanity an invite, just yet. If we stick here, one will eventually wander into our neck of the woods and it’ll be an all-you-can-eat shrimp buffet - and we won’t be the ones with a plate. Time to climb out of the gravity well and go find some high vistas upon which to spy the dangerous, I say.

Humanity didn’t conquer this planet until we got brave enough to climb out of the trees, pick up some rocks and start exploring. Sure, some of us got to explore the internal workings of a sabre-tooth tiger more than a wonderland of mangoes, but that’s the way it goes.

And I’m prepared to pick up the first stick and poke the bushes, as long as you’re brave enough to stand behind me.

Nos dias que antecederam as eleições parlamentares em Asgardia, eu conheci pessoas altamente qualificadas para ocupar um cargo no Parlamento, mas que por algum motivo não conseguiram chegar alcançar este objetivo. O que eu tenho a dizer para estas mentes extraordinárias que não foram eleitas para o Parlamento é que todos nós Asgardianos temos um papel para cumprir na construção de nossa siociedade. Não precisamos estar no Parlamento ou no Governo. Em Asgárdia somos todos iguais em importância. Apenas as o local de trabalho é que é diferente. Estas mentes brilhantes e sonhadoras poderão auxiliar parlamentares e ministros, contribuindo com o seu conhecimento para a construção de Asgardia. Precisamos de pessoas capacitadas, acima de tudo, bem-intencionadas para auxiliar o parlamento e o governo e estas pessoas já mostraram do que são capazes ao se dispor a assumir cargos públicos de liderança e, certamente serão requisitadas em um momento oportuno. Убедительная просьба рассмотреть возможность поддержки в ближайшее время со стороны Министерства Науки Асгардии и его структур проекта начального этапа работ по продтверждению работоспособности и начальному проектированию двигателя сверхмалых космических аппаратов, действующего за счет утилизации энергии космического мусора. В апреле 2019 г. на конференции по проблемам космического мусора в ИКИ РАН (тезисы http://www.inasan.ru/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/Abstract-book.pdf, стр. 82) я представил концепцию рациональной утилизации космического мусора, в основном его мелких фрагментов (не устраняемых другими способами) в качестве источника энергии для межорбитальных маневров космических аппаратов с помощью устройства, принципиально известного как "кинетический реактивный (или ракетный) двигатель" (дополнительная информация выслана по адресу проектного офиса Асгардии projects@asgardia.space и может быть направлена также в адрес Министерства Науки Асгардии, если он будет указан). Особенность данного технического решения в том, что процесс утилизации космического мусора (в отличие от других способов), становится самоокупаемым и даже рентабельным, т.к. может дать заметный выигрыш в массе космических аппаратов (здесь действует та же "жульническая бухгалтерия", что и в сравнении удельного импульса ЖРД и ТРД на одинаковом горючем - мусор уже присутствует в космосе, как окислитель в воздухе, и энергия для его отправки туда уже затрачена ранее). Специфика заключаеися также в том, что наиболее привлекателен данный вариант для сверхлеких космических аппаратов нового формата StarChip массой в несколько грамм, таких, как создаваемый сейчас AmbaSat стоимостью около 4 тыс. руб. за штуку или 10 тыс. руб. включая пусковые услуги. Такая техника может представлять значительный интерес даже для небольших компаний и частных лиц (в т.ч. юридических лиц Асгардии и физических лиц - граждан и резидентов Асгардии), в более отдаленном будущем - в качестве "гаджетов". После этого я предпринимал несколько попыток довести проект до реальной конструкции, подтверждающей его работоспособность, за счет заявок на гранты различных российских институтов развития, работающих со стартапами и/или НИОКР. Ряд заявок до сих пор готовится, другие находятся на рассмотрении, по многим дан более или менее вежливый отказ или перенос "до лучших времен". В одной из структур (при предварительной экспертной оценке рынка в 5 млрд. долларов) была дана четкая формулировка: "Стоп-фактор: отсутствие софинансирования". The chance to be one of the architects of this nation’s new government is an enormous opportunity and weighty responsibility. I am grateful to be at this exciting crossroads with all of you and very thankful to be able to explain my beliefs and qualifications for candidacy as a Member of Parliament for Asgardia. Thank you for taking the time to read my statement.

We stand on the threshold of an incredible moment, a chance to re-define inclusion and to offer a model for other nations as they think about difference, equal opportunity, and human rights.

Asgardia is perhaps the first nation to be created without colonization, conquest, erasure, or revolution. The process of establishing our government will not have ulterior motives of legitimizing and maintaining the power of our leaders, of justifying why we took our land from the people that came before us. We will be citizens of a nation without a history — without a history of oppression, exploitation, enslavement, or entrenched inequalities – and we will be able to learn from our combined histories without being defined by them. We will have the opportunity to explore what difference can mean when the rich variety of perspectives on the human experience is not viewed though the historical lens of whose relatives benefited unfairly from the labor of others, whose predecessors stole land or freedom from whom, whose ancestors decided that their wives did not deserve a vote, who thought of others as less than because they were different from.

I currently reside in a nation founded on beautiful ideals and haunted by a divisive history. Our politicians exploit this history, triggering defensiveness and fear, leveraging anger instead of guiding us away from the patterns and mistakes of the past. I believe that that the peaceful dialogue through which we will negotiate the parameters of the Asgardian government has the potential to be a model for other nations. We have the chance to define what life might be like in a future space state, but we also have the opportunity to influence international dialogue in the world we inhabit here and now.

I can’t promise I know all the answers about what every aspect of the Asgardian government should look like – in fact I can promise I don’t - but I am experienced in productive negotiation and committed to the idea of Asgardia becoming a model of engaging difference as richness, as a variety of experiences that can make us better and stronger. I believe that without the full weight of history, we can come to the table as human beings, discuss possible policies and procedures, and use our rich personal histories to make wise choices for the future of our citizenry. I don’t have all the answers, but I believe I’m the right person to be in the room (digital or otherwise) for discussions and debates as we try to grapple with options and decide on the best path forward.

My name is Heather Galles. I’m from the United States, specifically Southern California, where I am currently in charge of operations at a large arts complex. I am a systems thinker skilled in change management, and I enjoy consensus-building: creating buy-in from groups of people that have different stakes in the outcome of a given situation. I have never been a politician, but I know how to listen, I know how to lead, and I am honest about the things I don’t know and am still learning. I have a broad spectrum of experience, I’m always open to new perspectives, I’m not beholden to anybody, and I am not afraid of standing up for what I believe and taking a stand for the people I am speaking on behalf of. In my opinion, that’s what politicians should be like.

I am running for elected office now because I think the Asgardian experiment matters. I waited so long to throw my hat in the ring because of all the (often deserved) negative associations with holding political office and running for one. I don’t like the fact that politicians in America often seem to spend more time running for reelection than working for the people that elected them in the previous race. I don’t like the incivility of the current discourse in my country, the ‘anyone but X’ tribalism, the war on facts, or the vast influence of often-invisible money greasing the political machinery. I didn’t even run for student body positions at my high school or university because of the emphasis on popularity and resume-building over trying to (or being able to) create lasting change.

Asgardia is different. And I would be a different kind of politician.

I am prepared to get to work. I have over a decade of financial and management experience, from building and auditing departmental budgets for a large museum to restructuring operations for several small businesses, to coordinating teams of architects and consultants working on projects on four continents, with budgets often in the hundreds of millions of U.S. Dollars. I can take on the macro vision, and I can deal with the brass tacks of details and deliverables.

I have experience in marketing. While I am aware of the damage advertising can do, I also know how important optics are and how crucial it is to get the word out – you can’t sustain a for-profit or nonprofit business, even if you are exceptional, if nobody knows that you exist or why you matter. We must effectively explain to the rest of the world why the Asgardian endeavor matters, why our ideas matter, why this process matters.

I have logistical experience in everything from writing contracts and wrangling human resources, to digital archive construction and user interface design, to overseeing facilities upkeep and repair, managing vendor relationships, adjudicating tenant disputes, maintaining legal compliance and liaising with governmental and regulatory bodies. I have the skills needed to be part of the team building a new entity from the ground up.

I am a horticulturist and a master gardener in my county. I believe the path to environmental sustainability relies on figuring out closed-loop, cradle-to-cradle approaches to resource use, finding ways for companies to turn a profit while making ‘greener’ choices, and building coalitions among stakeholders with different reasons for wanting the same thing. (Anglers and environmental activists both want fish in the river next year.) I also think improved battery technology for storage of intermittent sources of renewable energy like wind and solar will make a huge difference in shrinking our collective carbon footprint. We have the radical opportunity to make environmental choices for our new nation based on science, evidence, and reason—not political allegiances or quarterly returns.

Asgardia is a beautiful dream. We have the opportunity to begin again, outside of the inherited histories from the countries of our birth. Whether or not the nation of Asgardia has an inhabitable presence in space during my lifetime, we have the chance to lay the groundwork for a new future now – and I believe a new direction is needed if we as a species intend to have a future. The work that we begin here may grow into a new kind of governance, a new form of belonging without the need for geographical boundaries, a new approach to resource generation and resource allocation that isn’t based on a zero-sum game. Perhaps we can help redefine how humans connect, how we coexist in this world and with this world – and who knows, maybe we will become pioneers in defining places for humans to coexist outside this world.

Whatever the future of Asgardia, the thought experiment matters. The process is important. We can show the rest of the world, too often engaged in partisan fighting, focused only on the “win,” that the dialogue is vital. We are embarking on something new. I don’t have all the answers – nobody does – but I believe I can contribute something significant to the conversation, and I am asking for your vote so I have the opportunity to do so on our collective behalf.

I am aware that my candidacy will be classified as Governmental Candidate due to the eligibility requirement that a Parliamentary Candidate must be 40 years of age at the time of election. Nonetheless, I am putting myself forward as a Parliamentary Candidate because I believe I am qualified to contribute in that capacity. One of the most beautiful things about the idea of Asgardia is its plurality; the potential for the inclusion of many perspectives, regardless of the origin of the individuals involved. If enough Asgardian citizens believe I am fit to serve in a leadership capacity, I do not believe I should be disqualified from service in the only elected leadership role already defined by the government – the only leadership role tasked with defining the government – simply because I am not yet 40. (I would turn 40 less than halfway through my five-year term.) Wherever my candidacy lands, your vote will help broaden the range of perspectives contributing to this nation and its government, and I thank you for your consideration.

My experience with running office/ responsible position :

I have run "office" in a fantasy game, where i had to deal with the needs of tens of people, as well i had to protect them and strategize in order to to forsee how their solitary actions would affect the hole comunity. I have been in that office for 3 years. As the rest of the people thought me as the most capable/organized. But since it was in a game it doesn't scream credential, but it shows that i was dedicated to my community and their needs.

More hands on responsibility that i had, was the fact that i was "puba" in seascouts and responsible for 20 kids for about 2 years (before i relocated).

I believe we have to set up our long term targets and our short term tergets.

We should analyze and learn from the mistakes of the modern society as well of the history.

What we mean with Long Term Plans :

We mean plan that they need either long time to be fullfilled, plans that they need long time of planning before we can address them and "plans" we will need to recisit them often because we live in an evolving society and the needs for planing on specific subjects will be constantly present if we don't want to end up with old and stale ideas in our society.

Ex. Of long term plans : Space based reasearch facilities

Earth based reasearch facilities

Revision of our constitution

A medium of clear communication of the Goverment with the Citizens

Plan to attract companies,investors,tourists

Ex. Of Short term plans : Set up and start working in long term plans (provide feedback & schedual to the citizens)

Set up a line of comunication with the citizens

Set up legal line of communication with Goverments & Non-Profit Organizations

Set up the Humanatarian actions we Asgardians will be able to participate in cases of natural disasters on earth.

Set up how we will Protect our Citizens in legal maters.

Those are some examples of the subject i want to attend as your representative.

Realistic Progress through Tempered Idealism

While I respect the idealistic rhetoric of some candidates from the English District, there are a number of steps we must accomplish before Asgardia may exist as we dream it may. Using my experience, legal and practical, I hope to resolve some of the earliest, and most pressing, concerns that are facing Asgardia TODAY so that the future of a truly space faring nation can be realized TOMORROW. To such an end, we must first operate as a legitimate state. I want to lend my expertise to three main issues:

1. A functioning judiciary system.
To be operational as a State, we should establish a collection of norms and a procedure for their enforcement. One major obstacle, unique to Asgardia, is that our populace simultaneously exists under one body of law in an Earthbound nation and under the law we determine for the spacecyber territory of Asgardia. This could threaten one cohesive body of law for our nation as each member is familiar with their own legal traditions and may not easily conform to others' assumptions.

I have studied comparative law and have written on issues arising between the conflicting legal schemes of Earthbound nations. Such experience, and the willingness to cooperate with others, will help us draft and improve laws and procedures for our judiciary.

2. A functioning and equitable Constitution.

While I assent to, and applaud, many of the provisions in our current Constitution, the Parliament should be ready to amend this founding document to make it more accessible and realistic for our short term goals. Procedurally, the Constitution is unclear on the supremacy of one legal instrument over another. This complicates how different branches can contribute to the formation of our nation without providing a resolution. Additionally, the age restrictions on State officers (40 and 50 y/o) are functionally arbitrary and ignorant of our current demography; most digitally literate citizens will be beneath these ages. In the U.S., a leading State in internet access, 20% of people over 50 do not even have access to the internet. Moreover, those that remain, consistently under-perform in computer literacy against adults around age 30.

I would enable MORE of our members to contribute to the governance of Asgardia by pushing for lower age limits on officers. Moreover, by reviewing the Constitution early in our life as a nation, we can resolve supremacy issues and logistics of our human services that can be realistic for our short term goals and long term existence.

3. Self sufficient government.

An issue that compromised Sealand, another experimental State building project, was the inability of the State to materially continue after the founding members had stopped tending to it. Operation Atlantis was abandoned after their first failed voyage because the founding members lacked the funds and will to continue. The Republic of Rose Island became a method for tax evasion just years after its independence and was destroyed by its neighboring State.

My efforts in government would be centered on establishing election and administrative procedures which would enable meaningful participation for generations of Asgardians. Simultaneously, our governance should be appropriate for the many thousands of current Asgardians, but should also be adequate in case the popularity of our project dwindles in the near future. Having a realistic view of our population, as well as being aware of other failed state building projects, would help us grow Asgardian governance to a size appropriate for the population it supports without opening itself up to the same failures of others.

Though I set out to mend these issues above, I am willing to work with our citizens on any task necessary to establish a respectable Asgardia. Through the cyber nature of this project, cooperation will be the easiest it ever could be. Using the Asgardia website, forums, and other social medias, this government has the possibility to hear all citizens' concerns and to facilitate international discourse.

I believe in the potential of Asgardia. But to realize this potential, we must first lay the foundation necessary to support our highest aspirations. Else, we risk crumbling under our own weight and the skepticism of Earthbound nations.

In order to achieve this we have to:

Attract and develop talented youth and children from the youngest ages and engage them into creation of cultural heritage of Asgardia.
Attract professionals working in the educational systems in the various countries of the world and use the best educational techniques of different countries that are acceptable for people of all ages.
Make popular the idea of Space Nation among youth and children and ensure the growth of the next generation to build the Space Nation in the future.
Provide possibility for children from various countries of the world to interact with each other in the frame of educational program of Asgardia, creating for them the environment of becoming as individuals with a cosmic outlook and a circle of communication.
