“Turning Asgardia’s dreams into results.”

Introduction

My name is Ross Cheeseright. I am 34 years old and I am an avid Asgardian. I have a background in analytics and I have worked for many years in the finance industry as an information analyst.

More recently, I went back to university to re-train and I am a second-year software engineering student with a passion is in the development and potential application of Virtual Reality.

I run a website design and digital marketing business (www.twobeardedguys.co.uk) and write a blog. I have been working hard for Asgardia for well over a year now and I have one singular aim in mind: Results

My Parliamentary Campaign

Some of you may remember me from my work towards joining Asgardia’s Parliament. At the time, I was one of the front-runners in the English District and I had aspirations to join Parliament and help to shape the nation.

Due to a decision by the head of the nation, it was deemed inappropriate for people under the age of 40 to run for Parliament. When this happened, I had around 1100 votes and it was not possible to transfer your votes to another candidate and there was no such thing as a government position.

I made the decision at the time to step down and free up my votes so that my supporters would be able to spend their vote on another candidate.

Running for Government

I have decided that it’s time to step up and re-join the race to help build a better Asgardia. I have seen that there are mounting concerns and a lack of suitable, eligible candidates.

I want, more than anything, for this project to be a huge success and if people believe in me, then I would ask for their support once again so that we can start to work to turn Asgardia’s dreams into a reality.

Ministry

Ideally, I would be seeking to join the Ministry of information and communication. It’s always been a passion of mine to interface with Asgardian citizens and as I have demonstrated with my blog, I believe in creating an open and honest discourse with people and making sure that people are informed.

Skill Synergy

I have developed a wide range of skills that would benefit the ministry of information and communication over my career.

Early on in my working life I served as a Game Master for Blizzard entertainment. From this job I learnt what it is to represent a brand and be a spokesperson. I learned how to communicate fairly and accurately, while being able to convey the rules and policy.

Later in my career, I started working for a Finance company called Friend Life where I joined their Risk Claims team and produced analytical data from them and used data to produce reports to help inform management and make key decisions.

From there, I moved up to become an analyst where I worked with the business to create a wide range of reports and scrutinise databases for important information pertinent to the business.

Once Friends Life was bought out by a competitor, I decided to go back into education and started learning software engineering with an interest in developing Virtual reality.

Alongside my education, I launched my own business and for the past 3 years, I have been working to help set up and grow small businesses using a range of digital marketing techniques and website design.

All of this experience combined with my passion as an Asgardian positions me to take a leading role in developing robust systems for our nation to help us build bonds and remain informed and interconnected.

Virtual Reality

You will have seen me harping on about Virtual Reality and indeed, in my blog I have discussed the topic at some length.

It would be one of my principle goals to develop Virtual Reality to the great benefit of our nation. Initially, I would seek to create Virtual Spaces so that Asgardians can get together and hang out in, to chat, share ideas, discussions, watch media together and to create bonds.

Over time, I would seek to develop a Virtual Asgardia that could serve as the ‘heart’ of our nation, accessible from smartphones, computers and any capable device from anywhere in the world. Further to the basic uses of social VR it would also be possible to extend it to offer more advanced functionality such as virtual universities and virtual attractions.

Once Asgardia is further developed, I would seek to host the Virtual Asgardia on our own Asgardian Satellite, creating a truly ‘independent’ nation free from the interference or dependence of other nation’s internet superhighways.

My work in Asgardia

Nerdblog / Asgardia.space blog

I have been writing a blog for those that have an interest in the subject of Asgardia, it examines current events and proposes solutions to problems that we might face as a decentralised digital nation.

I have recently started to hire Asgardians as volunteers to help me expand the blog and curate more content. Furthermore, I have been an avid poster on my own personal blog on the Asgardia.space website and my blogs have been featured several times.

Civic work

Until recently, I have been working as a part of the Civic Asgardia volunteer force where I worked in the communications team to create content, news reports and a periodic update on recent events and hot topics.

Discord Server

I spearheaded and proposed the topic of getting a Discord server set up for the nation and along with come colleagues ( chris , sven ) we were able to successfully launch a discord chat server for our nation that we handed over to Civic Asgardia to moderate and run.

Interviews

I have been interviewed by several international newspapers regarding the subject of Asgardia as a subject matter expert and helped to provide balanced and positive information about our fledgeling nation.

Content Creation

I have created infographics, phone wallpapers, Facebook profile picture frames, fully sourced investigative reports and meeting writeups all for the free use and benefit of the Asgardian people.

Information and communication are key cornerstones of our nation and I think that the creation of content is the kindling for that area of our nation.

How can you support me?

Vote for me

The best way to support me is to vote for me. If you believe that I have skills that would serve Asgardia well, then show your support and give me your vote. When the time comes to look at building a government, if I am well supported by the community, then I’m going to be in a great position.

Share me

Help others find me and help me spread my message by sharing my profile with others. Let them know why you’ve voted for me and help them to connect with me. You can link them my campaign profile, or you can share one of my social media profiles with them.

Fund me

I am incredibly driven and I’m ready to invest my time in Asgardia and I’m ready to work hard, but in order to do that I need funding.

I am looking to build a Patreon community that will both enable me to devote my time to further develop the nation, reach more people and grow my campaign.

Furthermore, if I am able to establish a solid income from the Patreon , I will ask my patreons to help me pick Asgardian projects to fund with some of the money.

If you’ve not got any spare time but you have some spare money or want to buy me a coffee, then please check out my Patreon .

Dear Ross, with all the services rendered to the wider Asgardian community, with all your pertinent ideas shared on FB and on the forum, your voluntary involvement specifically to inform us and make the information easily understandable and available to all, if you are not elected to the Parliament, then, no one should!
I'd really be honored to be serving Asgardia in the Parliament with you so I hope that like you, I'll also make it to the other side in March! Good luck to you for the elections!

Looking good Ross, I am sure your campaign to Parliament will be a success.

Oct 23, 01 / Oct 30, 17 12:28 UTC

Thank you, Edrick. Going to turn these dreams into goals and those goals into results :D Are you going to be throwing your hat into the race?

Oct 24, 01 / Oct 31, 17 13:35 UTC

Undecided Ross, I know I am capable of doing great things for Asgardia, but I need more experience and time to prepare. Once I have learned more, and contributed to Asgardia and the community I will definitely try and run for Parliament. However, at the moment staying a local candidate is fine for me, at least until I feel ready to accept the responsibilities of a parliamentary candidate.

Oct 24, 01 / Oct 31, 17 13:40 UTC

I think that is a very mature and measured response, Edrick. I know that you have a mind for innovation - such people will be vital for the future of Asgardia, so I'm glad that you'll be applying yourself with Asgardia in mind in some capacity :) Keep me updated!

Oct 27, 01 / Nov 3, 17 02:02 UTC

Good evening I have a few questions for you Ross please forgive my book of a message. You already have my vote, once I read threw your aspirations I completely agree with you on the matter for VR. I have always wanted to help make a safe VR ever since I saw the anime dot hack when I was twelve, and still want to but I have veered away from being able to get the requisite skills it would take to help you. I have spent my life so far in the military police  and private security sectors and I do not know where or how to start getting involved in making VR, my question is would you be able/ willing to help me find where to start? And my second question is for you as an PM for us citizens that don't have much to offer to the development of our great kingdom, do you think there will be a social gap between our groups of people who research and develop and those who just work? Here recently I keep asking myself what can I do to help further Asgardia, our kingdom meets all my ideals and dreams but I feel like I would be out of place or underclassed in an intellectually way since all I know is military police and security in a broad since if the term. Thank you for your time sir

Oct 27, 01 / Nov 3, 17 10:15 UTC

There are some great questions here, Tierial. First, let me thank you for your support in my campaign for parliament, it really means a lot to me to have the backing of hard-working and invested Asgardian Citizens such as yourself. I’m going to take some time here to write an in-depth response to your question, so I apologise in advance for the volume of it 😊

Getting Involved In VR.

In a previous question asked by ‘The Fabulous Pineapple’ I discuss the reasons why I am pushing VR for Asgardia and how I believe that it’s a really important technology that could provide us with a lot of benefits as a nation.

Asgardia needs to select things that it will ‘specialise in’ – things that it will invest in and become a global leader in.

Asteroid mining, space access, space investment, space law; These are the areas that Asgardia will naturally become specialised in, but I believe that for our decentralised nation, Virtual Reality is another future technology that we can ‘hang our hat on’ and become an ‘industry leader in’.

To become industry leaders, it will be important that our Asgardian Citizens are trained and educated in the development, application and use of Virtual Reality.

So, to answer your question: I would, absolutely, be more than willing to help you get started with your journey into Virtual Reality. It is my hope that I will be able to share everything I learn and to collaborate with those that know more than I do to create training material for Asgardian Citizens who want to learn to develop VR.

I am by no means a skilled professional in Virtual Reality yet – but it is my aim to become one in time and I am more than happy to share what I know with my fellow citizens.

The Future of Asgardian Citizens.

This is a great question that shows a good level of thought about the future of the project.

A lot of the communication that comes ‘from the top’ speaks of ‘Space Start-ups’ and ‘innovators’ and ‘space professionals’. There is talk of how there is a $1million fund set aside for investment into these ventures, but there is little discussion about how important our ‘day-to-day’ citizens are and what Asgardia will be giving back to them.

In your question you ask, “Will there be a social gap between our groups.” I honestly think that will not be the case. Asgardia might have set its sights on some good ways to do business and good ways to innovate and to reach towards its goals, but we’re about to elect a small army of 150 people who will be looking out for the needs of our Citizens.

The Asgardian Citizens are a hugely important part of our nation and while a small percentage of our citizens might become space start-ups, most of our citizens believe in Asgardia, they believe in the ideals and they believe in better . They will be looking to be a part of something that could offer them a brighter future and the chance to work with like-minded people.

The citizens directly contribute to the success of the nation, through their activity and in the future, though their donations and business ventures – Without Citizens, Asgardia would cease to exist as a nation and it certainly wouldn’t enter the UN.

Therefore, the elections are a vitally important part of the process so that we can elect those people with the passion, drive and capabilities to secure our future.

What can I do for Asgardia?

As a ‘normal’ Citizen of Asgardia, it’s easy to feel that you’re being ‘left behind’ when there is all this talk of space and innovation and that you don’t have anything that you can contribute to this cause.

But you would be dead wrong .

The Citizens of Asgardia are the most important resource that our nation has and there are a lot of things that you can do to help out the nation beyond creating a new kind of rocket-engine or figuring out how to bake bread in zero gravity.

Asgardia needs activity, it needs growth and it needs the passion of it’s people if it wants to survive. It needs people out there ‘on the street’.

I wrote a post a couple of days ago that I think you might enjoy reading. It addresses the question ‘What can you do for Asgardia.’

I would like to conclude by saying that I think that your passion for the project tempered by your life experience makes you a great citizen for our nation and I'm glad that you're thinking about the future and considering how you can best become a part of it.

One of Asgardia's great principles is that we want to leave the past behind and look to the future. It's a great time for people to re-invent themselves and ask themselves what's important, just as Asgardia is doing.

Oct 28, 01 / Nov 4, 17 00:03 UTC

Very impressive level of involvement and your virtual centralisation idea is fascinating. I'll vote for you.

Can I ask you - what is your view on crime? How do you think that Asgardia should cross the criminal case in Asgardia? I'd love to hear back from you :)

Nov 20, 01 / Nov 24, 17 20:52 UTC

Hey! Got some question, need your answer as a candidate. I don't know it that only for me up to date or it is reality, but I wonder your opinion on following problem. As for me, for now I see Asgardia as a project for proto-country society, I mean great place to model and test some ideas of new state emerging, better law and political system, then any country in the world have now  etc.. But, as far as I saw, particularly by subjects of petitions been submitted and comments in discussion - a big part of this community is freaks (don't want anybody to hurt in any way; in sense of seriousness of relation to Asgardia) or people with non-realistic approach like pseudo-science proposals and so on. Yep, I do consider that right of free speech and related right is essential and fully agree on that. But I don't understand, how we can create serious thing among with such individuals. Nobody says, that this project will perfectly fly on start, but I don't see a path to success, if main driven force will be nerds with sci-fi mind and peoples that resister out there for fun or to make senseless discussions about thing that don't even matter. How you plan to rule this thing to make rational route and to suppress negative factors, Personally I signed to this citizenship to see how things will be in future, how can bunch of people make something different, when no limits of regular law an order applied, for great experiment with ability to grow in something useful and real in some distant/future; but sure not for one more social network with stupid jokes and things like trolling each other and making idiotic proposals like "let's make goddamn space warfare robotic battleships with force-field and warp-speeds". Listen, I do believe in science and I do believe that humanity can and must try imagine fantastic for today tech, cause it's the only way when such fantastic technology can really happen, sooner or later. But for now it seems like many people of this community try making thing that not even close to goal of Asgardia as constitution suggests. So, my question - how do you see this problem to get things serious (not only applied to science-related field, but to whole project)? P.S. Sorry for little bit messy statement - English isn't my primary language, so, there may be mistakes.

And one more question - I think that Head of the nation have little bit much of power in ruling the country as it is excepted in constitution - what do you think? What changes must be adopted as soon as possible? And is 40 y.o. barrier to take places isn't too much? I mean, why whe, as citizents, must choose our representatives with certain age level but not for, i don't know IQ-alike concept or ability of critical decision-making and reality approach? What is your opinion and how you will affect that to change?

Will be pleased for wide answer and discussion if needed. Best regards

There are some really great in depth questions here maikayamaika and I would like to take the time to address all of your points fully. I will respond to you shortly. Meanwhile, I have a lot of additional in-depth discussions on my blog, please feel free to check out some of my entries. :)

I'm going to vote for you, so please do not disappoint my expectation from you.

Nov 21, 01 / Nov 25, 17 10:55 UTC

Thank you for your support, Jam. I plan on working hard to build up Asgardia into a successful Nation, but to help, perhaps you can tell me what your expectations are for me and for Asgardia. I'd love to hear from you.

Hi Ross - really like the VR idea.  I'm a VR developer, and I have one or two ideas that might be worth implementing to test out how well the VR concept works in Asgardia - I wrote them on a forum post in the Communications section.  I'm a mercinary however, so I would want to be paid some SOLAR for my time if you think this is worth pursuing!

Voted you for Asgardia’s cryptocurrency

Nov 25, 01 / Nov 29, 17 05:38 UTC

Using VR to get Asgardia recognized internationally is such an innovative and feasible idea. You have my vote!

Nov 25, 01 / Nov 29, 17 12:48 UTC

I signed up for my family and I to become Asgardians because I think our world as a whole forgot what "we the people" and respect are about. I fear for my children, and now that I am soon to be a grandma, I fear for the following generations to come. My family also follows the ways of the Vikings, by today's standards, we are practicing Odanism. My question for you is, while so many people have so many religions, and quite frankly none of them seem to get along, how can we keep a peaceful society among everyone? I haven't voted yet, but I am leaning in your direction. I love the VR idea too. But is it going to be affordable for us lower class citizens?

Nov 25, 01 / Nov 29, 17 13:13 UTC

Please disregard the ALIA1 post. I was somehow logged onto my daughter's account. But my questions are still the same.

Nov 25, 01 / Nov 29, 17 20:43 UTC

These are some great questions, Chantel. Firstly; on the subject of religion - Asgardia is a religion free society - its members are free to peacefully practice their religions on Earth so long as they respect the rules outlined in the constitution. One of the jobs of Parliament is to debate and outline laws that will ensure a peaceful coexistence between our people.

One thing that I would say, however, is that the typical Asgardian Citizen has joined the project because they want to leave the trouble on Earth in the past and work towards a unified future. Our philosophy and our ethos is "One Unity. One Humanity."

Neither of us are naieve enough to think that this is something that will happen over night, but I'm hopeful that with a large group of open-minded people, we can do what we set out to do - supported by the philosophy of the nation and the legislation that will be formed by the Government.

On the subject of VR -- Right now, VR is expensive, however -- it's getting cheaper all the time. Most modern smartphones are capable of running Virtual Reality on some level and higher-tier smartphones (like the Google Pixel and the Samsung Galaxy S8) are incredibly capable and you can buy their respective headsets for around £80 ($100).

This is one of the directions that smartphones are going in now. More and more of them are coming up with VR and AR capabilities and they're getting better and better at processing. Right now, one of the best 'community VR experiences' is actually Altspaces.

VR is definitely a future technology that will continue to serve our nation for decades to come and it is definitely a long-term investment, however, it would be my goal to ensure that the VR worlds that we create are as accessible as possible.

I support your desire to run in this election, would you mind if I ask, if you have already read the constitution, with an age limit requirement of 40 years old, what was your reason for running for a position that you may not be able to assume due to age requirements?  I think your running for a position is commendable and was curious about your reasons for doing so. Thank you for your reply, have a nice day :)

Hello there Kijo. Thank you for asking this question. I've read the constitution and I am aware that the constitution has an age-limit of 40. When I started my campaign, however, the minimum age was said to be 18 and we had expected that it was going to be changed officially, however - Asgardia admitted to making a mistake on the age and rolled it back to 40. That being said, right now, there is a debate going on about the minimum age and a poll on the matter has already attracted over 900 votes.

We have been instructed be Lena to continue running our campaigns.

You can find more details about this in my latest couple of blogs:

Greetings Ross!

I strongly agree with your ideas and vision on all levels. The work and positive impact you have on Asgardia is very impressive and i truely support the idea of creating a online social platform based on VR, the possibilies would be endless!

I just started running for parliament myself and truely hope that we can work together in the future. I will start updating my blog with some frequency and would love to hear your feedback on my candidate profile and posts.

Success,

Julian Mausfeld

Hi, I am really excited about your campaign. I think you are proving effective if you are able to gather national media attention about Asgaurdia. Your ideas on creating a VR space is also in line with where I would like to see things go at least in the short term.

As for myself, I am starting up an online comic book publishing platform/video game studio and am also getting into VR dev work. My business isn't specifically geared at Asgaurdia, this is something that I have wanted to do for a long time--- but I am very open to getting my business, ArcLamp, involved in affairs of Asgaurdia. I think this is a wonderful humanitarian effort of peace and truly historical and if my start up helps out in any way I would feel humbled.

I don't know if you need anything like an assistant or government aid but I would love to help where I could! Reach out if you need any help.

Hi Ross, I just read your ideas and I found them AMAZING. Unfortunately I'm still 17 and I'm not allowed to vote, but I will continue follow you and your ideas and try helping Asgardia as much as I can.

I hope you get a place in the Parliament: you are the person we need!

You seem a decent bloke that's why you have my vote. I read your mission stastatements and agree with most. Especially the two-way talking to supporting Asgardians. Cheers again again and fingers crossed you get in. One last thing, big me a shout out pls!

Dec 20, 01 / Dec 22, 17 01:54 UTC

I do like your idea. You deserve to be appointed as MP , but if the age bracket is in  the way of your race for that position, I assume you would be very good in the excutive level , Minister or Prime Minister. These positions  would need a much younger blood like you

Dec 20, 01 / Dec 22, 17 02:32 UTC

It seems to me that your VR project would be a very important mean to encourage communication and end up with creating business among Asgardians. That's indirectly.  But do you see the VR would be profit center directly in the first place ?

you have my vote ross , i hope you get this position

I would like to have your attention on my profile. I am a candidate for the parliament of Asgardia and I would like you to vote for me. I want to have your confidence so that we can make dreams come true.
Feb 22, 02 / Feb 19, 18 12:10 UTC
Thank you for taking the time to reach out to me, Sir. Other than running for parliament, what have you done for Asgardia? You say that you want to turn dreams into reality -- that's great, as you know that's also my goal. Are you working on any projects at the moment or have you done anything for Asgardia in the past that backs up what you're saying? Also. Can you tell us in more detail how you plan to overcome some of the problems that Asgardia is facing and what experience you have to back up your claims? What companies will you approach for funding and what do you propose we offer them in return for their money? What will your strategy be for education, research and the Development of the nation? You have given far too few details to get my support, Sir but I I'm happy to support you if you can back up your words with some more details. Good luck in your campaign!
