I'm Sarah Stobber and I'm your candidate for Parliament. I'm a humanist and a futurist. I love adventure. I'm a quick and innovative thinker, and I thrive in challenging situations. I've loved the idea of space exploration since I was a little kid. Growing up I wanted to be an Astronaut. Life took me down many other paths, but my love of space never faded.

Fast forward to 2016... Asgardia launches the first Space Kingdom! I was very excited and became a citizen of Asgardia very early on. There was much excitement within the community and I met some amazing people. I believe in the potential of Asgardia, but this nation needs a clear direction. We must define specific goals and then work to achieve them. I will make it one of my top priorities in my first year in Parliament to identify Asgardia's long term goals. Then, work with Asgardian citizens, and officials to create plans of action. This will include plans for funding each initiative. I've been a CEO of my own companies for over 12 years so I have the experience to create complex goals and see them through to completion. I'm very adept at strategizing, budgeting, and planning to achieve the goal. My skills and traits will be an asset to attaining the very ambitious goals Asgardia will have in the future.

These are some areas I would make a priority if I'm elected:

Cryptocurrencies:

Building a space nation is an expensive undertaking and will require billions of dollars in funding to be successful. I would like to see Asgardia utilize cryptocurrencies to acquire some of the nation's wealth. This money can be used for research and building and launching future satellites and eventually a space station into orbit. Cryptocurrencies also have the potential to make many Asgardians millionaires here on Earth. But, this is dependent on several factors, one of which is building a token(s) that are based on unique blockchain technology that doesn't exist yet in the market. It must be secure so it can't be hacked as others have been. It must fill a need within the market. One such idea behind a token might be space tourism.

Space Tourism:

Asgardia will be in a natural position to become a major player in the space tourism industry. We must capitalize on that potential and quickly as the great space race is heating up. We should encourage any Asgardian engineers to work towards developing better rocket technology. Ask our designers to work with our engineers to creating amazing tourist shuttles. This can be a great source of income for Asgardians as it will create jobs.

Technology:

I believe we should be at the forefront of technology. This means creating and working with advanced AI to perform medical research, scientific research, help us plan our infrastructure in space, work on law issues, and more. We should also be involved with robotics of all kinds. We can create useful robots that clean, cook, and other tasks. Along with more advanced humanoid robots that will prove to be highly capable and useful electronic citizens. Developing a space station is a physically demanding task for a human, robots don't have the physical limitations humans do thus can be very useful. They can also be employed on Earth or in a space station for any number of advanced tasks.

Jobs:

My experience as a CEO will help me identify areas where jobs can be created. However, I also think that the future will be one with robots performing many tasks instead of humans. I think we should build a futuristic future based on the technology we have available and create great lives without having to deal with scarcity for all Asgardian citizens. This requires major planning and foresight, but if we all work together it could become a reality.

Health:

AI Dr's are the future. They're already proving themselves in recent times to diagnose dangerous diseases many days before human Dr's have been capable of doing. I would promote the use of AI in medicine in Asgardia. It will also increase access to care and lower costs. Healthcare should be universal and funded by taxes, and possibly subsidized by government cryptocurrency and space tourism profits. No one should ever be left without healthcare.

Education:

Asgardians should all have a free education pre-k through bachelor's degree that's funded through taxes and possibly subsidized by government cryptocurrency and space tourism profits. Education can be delivered through online and VR methods to keep costs low and teach more students at any given time. Courses could even launch before Asgardians leave Earth. The use of VR could aid in teaching specific skill sets that will be needed in the space station.

Equality:

There should be human rights equality within Asgardia. Regardless of race, gender, or religion (or lack of), we should all have equal rights. Therefore, no one should be given special rights or privileges based on religion, race, sexual preference, or gender. Having true equal rights means never putting any group of people above another. I feel it is demeaning to a group or person to do so.

Earth Base:

I think Asgardia should have an Earth base. This will allow Asgardians to have somewhere we can call home. It will also give us a place to test new technologies we create. We can even build a mock space station and test out it's flaws while remaining safe on our planet. There are many advantages to this and I would like it to be discussed if that is a direction the head of nation would like to go in.

Communication:

If I am elected, I want to hear your ideas and any concerns you have. We've all seen much malcontent in many world governments recently, and while there's many reasons for this I believe a lot of it can be attributed to lack of good communication. I will always listen to Asgardians and do my best to take a fair and balanced approach to creating the kind of government that Asgardians can be proud of and one that gets results that move Asgardia's future aspirations forward.

I'm planning to work with the following committees if I'm elected:

Trade and Commerce Committee-

Setting up the proper Trade and Commerce platforms is going to be extremely important for creating jobs and long term financial growth for Asgardia. My professional background for the past 12 years has been in running my own successful companies. So, I can utilize my experience as a CEO and translate it to job creation and sustainable and innovative commerce. There are so many ways that Asgardia can create revenue, I will work closely with this committee if elected to help ensure Asgardia has a strong economy.

Finance Committee-

Whether Asgardians like it or not, the future of our nation will depend greatly on the strength of our finances. I'd like to work with this committee to help ensure that we're exploring all possible financial avenues and sources of revenue to further advance Asgardian initiatives.

Science Committee-

I have a great passion for all things "geek". This includes science and technology. The future of Asgardia is working with scientists to find solutions to obstacles we must overcome to make our home in the stars possible. I will work closely with this committee to gather all of the brightest Asgardians who can work to make scientific breakthroughs that will further our goals, and the goals of humanity.

If you vote for me, I thank you for your support and I look forward to representing you in Parliament!

The universe has it's own chains. It is governed by fixed rules that someday we will understand.

Nov 5, 01 / Nov 9, 17 02:08 UTC

A quantum theorist might argue that human consciousness is part of what defines reality as we know it.... and if that were the case could we understand the rules that govern our influence on the universe?

Nov 9, 01 / Nov 13, 17 01:53 UTC

This is true.  But, this article refers to the self-imposed chains humanity has put on itself.  Everyday we learn more about our universe, I don't think we'll ever know it all.

Share your ideas, for one never knows when an idea may inspire a symphony.

Nov 9, 01 / Nov 13, 17 01:59 UTC

@Chris - That's an interesting thought!  I agree with you on the mechanics of it.  However, it still wouldn't change the fact that we humans within the known confines of our consciousness create boundaries and limitations on ourselves all the time.  This has a lot to do with mental conditioning of course... which can be impacted by our environment, biology, etc.  IE:  Humans stand at the top of the "food chain" here on Earth.  Yet, we enslave ourselves with a monetary and resource system that allows millions to starve and die every year.  We created that reality.  I think it's time we unchained ourselves.

Nov 19, 01 / Nov 23, 17 15:49 UTC

Voted for you! We need you in the parliament!

Dec 2, 01 / Dec 4, 17 14:17 UTC

Thanks for your vote Michael!  I'll do my best to further Asgardian goals if I'm elected.

Nov 24, 01 / Nov 28, 17 19:53 UTC

Traveling Rebel, what ideas do you have about freeing humanity from the monetary/resource systems that are in place? It's a conundrum that many on this planet are trying to resolve.

Dec 4, 01 / Dec 6, 17 05:03 UTC

Hi Shire!  To be honest... I see humanity as being at a crossroads now.  With AI and robotics entering the landscape of our workforce and holding huge potential to reverse the scarcity some of us experience here on Earth.  That coupled with many of the emerging technologies in the medical and biotech world I think we have a good chance at creating a better life for most humans on Earth.  While I don't have a "plan" to free humanity from the systems in place, I think if the powers that be realign our monetary systems distribution somewhat given the upcoming robotics revolution that many will come out of poverty.  As for some of the other ideas out there... I've researched the Venus project a little, and while I think they have good intentions I don't think a resource based "bartering system" will work.  Our numbers are to massive to scale such a system now.  Not to mention, everyone likes to have their own materials (ie: most people won't want to share a dvd player, et)  This type of system also leaves out the people that are unable to work (illness/age).  In the future, I can see a system that relies heavily on utilizing robotics and automation to provide for the basic needs of humans here on Earth.  But, while also utilizing some form of UBI to fill in the gaps for monetary needs.

Dear "TravelingRebel" are you aware that your candidacy will be removed if you don't change your profile name to the one matching the ID you will have to provide to validate your candidacy? So far, you are "not eligible"... Please, make the move once and for all: that will just be fair for your eventual future constituants who have entrusted you with one of their votes!

Hello Ms. Stobber, it is a pleasure to vote for someone who can articulate what has been a lifetime ideal for myself. I can remember when the technologies like Elon Musks were concepts the government discouraged as too expensive for the public to fund and benefit from until it could raise a billionaire to do for the public what the government deemed the people unfit to do for themselves. The governments of the world have over the past 50 years slowly started to wake up and realize that the people will advance with or without the governing bodies of terror and power over others, as a reflection of this, every country but the united states has advanced forward. It my sincere hope that the position you are hoping to fill advances my new country Asgardia in the same forward thinking and open beneficial advancements this planet needs us as citizens and leaders of the First Space Nation to be. The physical representation of what is truly possible. To lead, not only ourselves, but by our example, the planet. Good luck in the elections. Ms. Ford
Mar 4, 02 / Mar 1, 18 11:42 UTC
Hi Naomi! We definitely share a love for Elon Musk, I think he's done some amazing things. You're right that the government (and many other naysayers) discouraged him from attempting several technologies. But, he persevered... fortunately he had his fortune to put to use or we'd likely not have seen many of his companies launch. I wouldn't agree on the U.S. not moving forward, we just appear to have more political chaos than most other countries. That is mostly fueled by dishonest media coverage. I've spent much time researching core stories and how they're reported by major news outlets, it's shocking how much they twist things. Other countries still have some major issues, like we do. Look at Venezuela for instance, their leaders are so corrupt and the people are starving. It's a horrible situation over there. I think the world in general is in a state of chaos to some degree, and it's not going to end anytime soon. I am a very forward thinking person and will look for ways to advance Asgardia's interests when possible. I too would love Asgardia to set an example to other parts of the world as to what's possible when you put the nonsense aside and work together towards ambitious goals,
