I am Dahl Winters, 36 years old from the Denver area in Colorado, USA. You can read more about my professional profile at https://www.linkedin.com/in/dahlwinters/.
I am perhaps one of the few candidates with a strong professional background in science and technology. I attended two major universities on full scholarships and fellowships for academic merit and leadership. My background began in physics and migrated to biology/ecology which led me to the geospatial sciences and finally to computer science.
Today I develop artificial intelligence-driven software using big data on cloud computing platforms. A year ago, while working full time I secured over $120k USD in innovation-related funding under my small business. These were primarily grants and awards made to my company in return for me solving problems.
I am also a very active champion of the idea of open innovation in science and technology. In 2017 I was the #3 top solver on the InnoCentive innovation network of 380,000 solvers ( https://www.innocentive.com/ar/challenge/topSolvers ).
My mission is simple, to help Asgardia stay on a trajectory that takes us off the ground and into space. The challenge of leading a free nation like Asgardia with its many backgrounds and points of view into space is an unprecedented challenge, one that has intrigued me for quite some time. Many problems threaten to derail Asgardia from this trajectory, making it important that we deploy the most powerful tools at our disposal to aid our task. Today, those tools are none other than the application of artificial intelligence on top of a firm scientific foundation, guided by the principles of open innovation.
Previous Work within Asgardia
I have engaged the community on Facebook when it comes to important R&D matters that could benefit Asgardia. I informed the community about NASA's Earth-Space Air Prize and the NASA SBIR and invited Asgardians to work with me on a submission for both. I did get interest on the NASA SBIR and facilitated a brainstorming group of 10 Asgardians which led to a submission on the use of AI and augmented reality for space based maintenance. Where there are posts about important new developments in science and technology, I provide thoughtful facts and evidence to help Asgardians evaluate the feasibility of those technologies for themselves.
I have provided support to several Parliamentary candidates to allow them to progress on their individual platforms and also serve as a volunteer for Civic.Asgardia.
How I will serve Asgardia’s citizens
I believe in leading by example. Where I have found success, I would like to share those methods and techniques with Asgardians so that we can all find success together. To do that, I will need to work with others who embrace the idea of open innovation: the open exchange of knowledge to solve our common problems. I also believe in a research guided approach to policy: roll out trials to see how policies affect people before instituting large scale changes that affect everyone within Asgardia.
The first thing I would like to do within Asgardia is to lead the formation of a solid R&D program to stimulate our economy and provide education within science and technology. I want to see Asgardians working for Asgardia, developing R&D skills by forming a team Asgardia for innovation challenges and proposal writing. Any money the team earns will go back into funding Asgardia for engaging in more challenges and proposals. To begin with, those who are highly capable in science and technology will be most inclined and able to participate, but it will be a requirement that those individuals be open to ideas and suggestions from all others.
The second item on my list is to form a highly detailed plan for getting us into space. To solve that problem, five problems might need to be solved and for each of those, five other problems might need to be solved, and so on. We need to have people assigned to each of those problems with a level of redundancy to ensure the entire plan will go forward in a timely manner. The plan will need to be made dynamic to adapt to changes and public feedback; fortunately this is something that AI is designed to do well. Thus I propose an AI driven planning application that is overseen by Parliament and operated by Asgardian citizens.
Third, I will work to bring the benefits of science and technology to all areas of Asgardian life. I am seeking appointment to the Ministry of Science and Technology so as to be able to help administer the above plans in an open and transparent manner.
How can you support me?
The best way to support me is by doing what you can to support the advancement of science and technology within Asgardia. What I need is for Asgardians like yourselves to step up and participate. Ask not what Asgardia can do for you, but what you can do for Asgardia. Only together will we be able to lift ourselves up toward the stars.
