Use of bacterial colonies for oxygen and fuel production.

Some of our major issues in a future colonization  are the oxygen renovation, production and quality, the need of a renewable fuel and what to do whit our biological waste.

Many articles from all around wolrd and many research with biofuel talk about the use of bacterial or fungi culture to produce them. Could we use the same microrganism to solve all this issues and the residual  from the process as biomass to cultivation of food.

Got any links?

Are these methods better than plants in terms of cubic space required for oxygen output?

Before we grow and raise much, check the studies on adverse effects on organisms in space.
