Electric Sheep

Q: What do Androids dream of ?

A: Electric Sheep

The free Electric sheep is a community-powered never ending, always evolving screensaver of animated 3D fractal flames, that swirl and morph into beautiful shapes and patterns.

The hand of evolution is guided by users voting up or down on the sequences they see, which changes the chances of any sheep breeding with another. Unlike normal screensavers these are short lived flames, and old favourites become old memories (unless you dedicate your HD to capture them).

Each person connected, creates 1 frame of an animation and it is uploaded and added to the others, where it then streams via p2p as video data. It is available for Linux, Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android

The author Scott Draves, travels to festivals and events with the commercial version, which features only the best sheep in a higher quality for big projections. Many people use it to create ambient music videos, and lots of examples can be found in Youtube.

This was very interesting, thank you.

Thankyou, I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. The Electric Sheep project is a perfect combination of art and science, and gets better all the time.

BTW. Because you only make 1 picture of each animation, it works on old and slow computers as long as they are able to play fullscreen video.

Thank you. Interesting project, I know few other programs that works with fractals to create beautiful pictures, and this one will be nice addition to my collection.

Why is it down right now ?

Jan 12, 17 / Aqu 12, 01 03:58 UTC

Yeah, the site is still down.

I can't see any notifications on the social media pages. Google last cached a copy on Jan 11, 2017 01:25:46 GMT, so it looks like it has been up and down. The Web Archive have a snapshot from yesterday. It looks like it may be a problem with replacing the site with an update http://wayback.archive.org/web/20170120192816/http://www.electricsheep.org/

Scott's personal site is still up http://scottdraves.com/sheep.html

I just sent a tweet via http://twitter.com/ELECTRICSHE3P asking about the site status.
