First Library of Asgardia

In addition to uploading pictures of faces and silly photos, why not found the Asgardian first digital library so that citizens will have something to read?  Files could be .pdf or similar e-reader defaults.  Any suggestions?

That's great! Now we just need a place to upload them.  Admins?  Otherwise we can gather dropbox links here and I can carry them aboard on a solid state drive.  I wonder what physical books will be taken aboard as well?

I love the idea of starting a library!  One of my jobs was being a Library technician. I was the one who did all the cataloging.  There are several books that are in the public domain, with which to begin a library.  I am not sure how copyright laws might work with a digital library, especially since we are multi-national and copyright laws vary from nation to nation.

This is a GREAT suggestion! As Talamon has said, it's copyright laws that may give us some issues. :) If a citizens committee wants to look into it and put in a proposal through projects@asgardia.space we'd welcome it.

Cheers!

Library automated software.  I worked in a school and they used Follet software, which I found very easy to use.  I have a website that shows the best library software for 2017.  I would be very interested in helping out with this project if someone wants to start it!  Oh, and by the way, things like Shakespeare are in the public domain along with many classics.

Yes, we should do this.

I have set up a space for developing the proposal: http://collabedit.com/jca9j

This is a collaborative effort, so everyone who wants to join the citizen committee can just put their name at the end of the proposal, suggest changes and add to it.

Just a quick update. The proposal was submitted to Civic Asgardia in October 2017. The text is available at https://pastebin.com/yzBk2Gpy

Civic Asgardia is aware of the proposal and found it is a great idea. We are now awaiting the approval process for projects to commence, which is delayed due to the elections.

Please contact me if you are interested to get involved in the project as a technical expert, librarian or subject matter expert.

Hi Asgardians,

I support the idea of digital library.

There are thousands of books whose copyright expires after a period of time and does not get renewed because of several reasons, which later on becomes available for public. And books are also available in public domain which we can include.

We can collaborate with PROJECT GUTENBERG, which has catalogue and digital books available in pdf and ebook format for free. All those books are either in public domain or whose copyright is already expired.

Feel free to discuss.
