Verifiable Elections ¶
Hello Asgardians,
For the upcoming elections or any future elections, if we need votes to be private and at the same time we want to be able to verify that the elections were conducted correctly I would suggest we use Helios(https://heliosvoting.org/). Since this keeps the votes private I understand that it would be impossible to use this for voting for the Declaration of Unity since we wouldn't know which members will pass to the third level of certification. However, for other elections I think it is the best choice.
Helios uses advanced cryptographic techniques to ensure that votes stay private. At the same time, anyone can check that the tallying of the election was done correctly without revealing the votes(this is done using something called Zero-Knowledge proofs from cryptography). You can literally download all encrypted votes and count them without having to decrypt them(it's called homomorphic tallying). It is developed by cryptographers and it has been extensively researched in the last years. Elections administrators can even set up a list of who is eligible to vote so I think it has everything we need. Since Asgardia is a nation of Science and Technology, I would strongly suggest this.
