Today, the unique Space Nation celebrates the 3rd anniversary of the announcement of its creation. Asgardia is the first nation in history to give up the struggle for terrestrial resources and concentrate its efforts on the development and preservation of the human race in space. October 12, 2016 (Ophiuchus 6, 0000)– The creation of Asgardia is announced
At a press conference at the Ritz hotel in Paris, Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli announces the creation of the First Space Nation.
‘Now, we have decided to create the first-ever Space Nation – this is a global, unifying and humanitarian project. Is it pioneering, futuristic and visionary - or madness? Call it what you will, and time will tell,’ Dr. Ashurbeyli announces.
March 6, 2017 (Aries 15, 0001) – Asgardia’s calendar
Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli confirms the new Asgardian calendar and presents it for review for the future Parliament of the Space Nation. According to Decree No. 2, the Asgardian calendar consists of 13 months, every month consists of 28 days, the final day of the year, which coincides with December 31, 2017 in the Gregorian calendar, does not have a date and does not belong to any month. It is called 'Year Day' and is one of the official holidays of Asgardia. The Decree also proposes two more public holidays: Ophiuchus 5 in the Asgardian calendar (October 12, 2017 in the Gregorian calendar), we celebrate Asgardia’s Birthday and Leo 1 in the Asgardian calendar (June 18, 2017 in the Gregorian calendar), – Asgardian National Unity Day.
March 27, 2017 (Taurus 2, 0001) – Asgardian Declaration of Unity
Asgardia’s Declaration of Unity is presented to the public. The Declaration states that Asgardia is a free and unified Space Nation, with its main objectives being ensuring peace in space, the protection of our planet and all humankind from outer space threats, as well as equal opportunities in space for all Asgardians residing on Earth, regardless of geographic, financial, technological background of their Earthly country of citizenship. There is no place for the history of Earthly conflicts in Asgardia – the First Space Nation is creating a new peaceful history of a united humankind in space.
September 9, 2017 (Libra 28, 0001) – Constitution of Asgardia is accepted
On this memorable date, Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli approves the results of the vote on Asgardia’s constitutional charter. 72.5% of Asgardians vote in favor of the proposed Constitution, overall more than 140 000 residents take part in voting. This day represents a significant milestone on the path to building the First Space Nation. The Constitution has becomes the foundation upon which Asgardia develops and upon which it will continue to evolve. Today, over 300 000 people have accepted the Constitution of Asgardia.
November 12, 2017 (Sagittarius 8, 0001) – Launch of the Asgardia-1 satellite
13 months after Dr. Ashurbeyli announces the creation of the First Space Nation, the Asgardia-1 satellite is launched from the Wallops flight facility in Virginia, USA. Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli watches the Cygnus cargo spacecraft carry the satellite into the sky.
Asgardia-1 contains the Constitution of the First Space Nation, the national symbols of Asgardia, and Asgardians’ data. This legendary launch marks the day the First Space Nation gains its own sovereign territory.
May 20, 2018 (Gemini 28, 0002) – Parliamentary elections conclude
Igor Ashurbeyli issues Decree No. 17 on the final results of the elections to the first Parliament of Asgardia, declaring the elections valid. The first-ever parliamentary session will take place in Vienna a month after the elections and will be attended by 108 Members of Parliament from 40 countries in person.
25 June 2018 (Leo 8, 0002) – The Inauguration of the First Head of Nation
June 25, 2018, the formal inauguration of the Head of Nation Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli takes place at the Hofburg Imperial Palace in Vienna, Austria. Ambassadors, representatives of prominent public organizations associated with the UN, Asgardian MPs, astronauts, heads of space organizations, scientists, lawyers and international mass media representatives were among the guests from over 40 countries attending the event.
‘Just twenty months have passed since the announcement was made of the creation Asgardia. It is no longer just an idea, on the contrary, now there are some 200,000 Asgardians in more than 200 countries of the world; we have our own territory on the Asgardia-1 satellite, a Constitution, a flag, an anthem, a coat of arms and our own calendar. The Parliament has been elected as well as its Speaker, the Supreme Justice and acting Prime Minister have been appointed. The elected Head of Nation has just been inaugurated. We have thus established all branches of government. I can therefore declare with confidence that Asgardia – the first space nation of the united humankind – has been born,’ the Head of Nation says in his Inauguration speech.
October 10-12, 2018 (Ophiuchus 3-5, 0002) – The first-ever digital session of the Parliament of Asgardia takes place
The three-day Parliamentary sitting takes place in a new unprecedented format – online, with almost 100 Asgardian Members of Parliament from over 30 countries attending remotely via video-conference. All sessions are conducted in English, with Russian and Spanish translation. The Head of Nation thanks Members of Parliament for their work: ‘I congratulate you on the successful conclusion of your pioneering digital Parliamentary Sitting. This was the first ever digital session in the history of parliaments of any Earthly Nation.’
January 22, 2019 (Aquarius 22, 0003)– Asgardia Presented in Davos
Leon Shpilsky, the Minister of Finance of Asgardia, delivers the concept of Asgardian economic system proposed by the Head of Nation. Shpilsky presents the main Economic Principles of the First Space Nation to international officials and businessmen during the Caspian Week.
12 April 2019 (18 Taurus, 0003) – The Head of Nation addressed the assembled government and parliamentary officials at the historic Asgardia Executive Congress
Dr Igor Ashurbeyli shares Asgardia’s future goals and the groundwork that has already been completed at the Executive Congress in Vienna. Dr Ashurbeyli talks about the structure of Asgardia's population, political structure and economic development of the First Space Nation. ‘Spaceflight is very similar to seafaring, and it’s time for mankind to prepare to leave its native harbor and venture out to unknown shores’ the Head of Nation says in his inspiring speech.
12 April 2019 (18 Taurus, 0003) – The Space Nation’s Parliament confirms Ministers and Committee Chairs
On the final day of Asgardia’s Executive Congress, the Parliament of Asgardia confirms all Ministers and Committee Chairs. Using the ceremonial Constitution, the Head of Nation conducts the swear in ceremony. Dr. Ashurbeyli reads the oath together with the Parliament Chair Lembit Opik, Prime Minister Ana Mercedes Diaz, and Supreme Justice Yun Zhao: ‘We, the highest officials of Asgardia, solemnly swear to be loyal to the Space Kingdom of Asgardia, to perfectly comply with its Constitution and laws. To be devoted to our high mission, to direct all our activities for the benefit of the State and the people of Asgardia. To perform our duties responsibly, with due dedication and professionalism.' 'Yes, I swear,’ Parliamentary Committee Chairs and Government Ministers repeat three times.
September 10, 2019 (Scorpius 1, 0003) – Supreme Space Council nominates candidates for Asgardia National Award
The Gold Medal of Asgardia is a national award established to recognize extraordinary contributions to the advancement of human civilization into space, to the development of space thinking, to the discovery and exploration of space as the future place of human settlement, to the development of human space flights, and to fundamental and applied space research. Three people are honored with the Gold Medal for Achievements in Space Axploration: Dr. Mark Belakovsky from Russia, Dr. Michael Gillon from Belgium and Dr. Robert Thirsk from Canada. The laureates will receive the award during the first Asgardia Space Science and Investment Congress held October 14-16 in Darmstadt, Germany.
