A new year is here. It seems so odd as we used to watch movies about the future. Flying cars, hoverboards, androids, cybernetics, corporate wars, and so on. In the 80s and 90s we expected the 2000s to end up being a real life version of Cyberpunk 2020; we ...
A new year is here. It seems so odd as we used to watch movies about the future. Flying cars, hoverboards, androids, cybernetics, corporate wars, and so on. In the 80s and 90s we expected the 2000s to end up being a real life version of Cyberpunk 2020; we had such a dark view of the future. But here we are, in 2019, with new breakthroughs in science and technology already on the way. it may not be flying cars and hoverboards, but instead better prosthetics, medical treatments, aerospace tech, weather monitoring, communication, and so on. Often humanity gets caught up in all the negatives and don't realize there is a brighter side to life. And sometimes people just need a spark set into their minds to open a doorway to realizing that the future doesn't have to be a dark dystopia.
The thing I feel the most for in this moment is Asgardia. An idea, that has so much potential to not only become a nation, but a nation without bloodshed. Human history is riddled with bullet and stab wounds all in the name of a God or a King. This time however, even if it takes decades, this can be a nation that earns it's place without the costs. A nation that offers unity and progress in ways that aren't so distant. Some may call this a scam, others demand that citizenship should be free, a few think there should be no government; all due to the fears that come with such notions.
I'm here to tell you, that nothing is life is free. Someone had to do something in order to make that thing that may have been given to someone, who in turn has to do something with it. In this case, a nation... A nation that already has a SAT in orbit at this very moment, had already gotten the foundations of a government, has the setup of their parlament, and all without a single drop of blood, or outcry against others. Asgardia is an idea, and that seed, that spark... is planted. And it's the first seed of peace I've seen in many years. I'm an ex-soldier and I grew up around violence, and have seen the worst sides of humanity. I know how reality is, hand in fist. Today I am a pacifist, and want a better future. I wish to live in a nation founded on peace.
That is what humanity needs. Inspiration, motivation, and dedication. This idea, this Asgardia, is exactly that. A nation without division between people due to race, religion, sexuality, or other insignificant things. Instead, it'll be a nation about humanity under a banner of unity, focusing on science, innovation, progress, and standing by the ideals of egalitarian design. A place where young men and women won't be afraid to step out of the norm, pick up a book, or challenge pseudo-science or ideologies of the old ways. A potential nation, where humanity not only learns to live on earth without causing ecological damage, or war; but in a hundred years or more could have people exploring the depths of our oceans or the edges of our solar system. This idea, has the potential to build a place for those seeking more than a sedentary existence. A Nation of learning, exploration, research, and innovation under a banner of bloodless hands.
Happy new year. Be safe, and stand strong my fellow Asgardians.
