This is just a reminder that I am no scientist in any way or form. I get most of my ideas from my personal experiences in the PlayStation or PC sector and please note that the ideas I pitch may in fact be wrong or not well researched. Most of what I write about revolves around my own viewpoint and does not in any way depict the viewpoints of any other person. I do enjoy discussions and am always open to new ideas so if anyone wants to interact with me regarding my ideas or viewpoints, I encourage it.

Ok, this platform doesn't give much freedom to post more than words accompanied by pictures, so I will try and give as much description as possible. Pic 1, Mass Effect prototype. Yes, this pic is from BioWare's game but the concept I have in mind is similar. A comfortable weave type suit with various layers for protection. Pic 2, from Space.com, an infographic about the actual NASA spacesuit. Pic 3, what the outer skin of the spacesuit currently consists of. The Mass Effect concept seems to(or is going to) apply all the protection shown in pic 3(outer skin) in a near skin-tight, flexible suit. The ME suit seems to be equipped with padding for aesthetic purposes. I think however that we can add flexible computers(silicon based), biometrics, control modules, and possibly more to the ME type suit. The ME suit also has couplings built into the suit for possible add-ons, which will come in handy as development of the suits and add-ons continue. I'm fairly certain with the advancement of today's technology, we can scale down the protective layers to a near ME type style, especially with the types of materials being used, manipulated and discovered in science. We can incorporate batteries, piping, even H2O and O2 tank equivalents throughout the suit without bulking it up too much(even if those tanks are only temporary). If the "undergarment" in pic 2 can do the job of the total protection of the wearer, and if it can be durable and flexible enough for everyday use, we can manipulate the "add-ons" for easier addition and less bulk. Want to lift more? Ok, attach the heavy lift kit to the legs and arms sections and have the suit PC's auto adjust and assist. Want a space jet pack? add the attachment. Want to do maintenance? add the attachment. Etcetera, etcetera. As long as the initial suit is an easy-to-wear outfit that offers great protection from the get-go, it should be easy to create appropriate add-ons specifically for the "job on hand".

Yeah, Planet Earth is a big rock. Hence the wonderful name... How do we get thousands of Asgardians off it? We can't exactly shake them off. We need to get them all in a space ship or 10 and launch them from a NASA type launch pad. On a clear, windless day, at near perfect atmospheric conditions. The issue is sending a ton of humans into space at escape velocity. There's no other way. Or is there... Second issue is sending a bunch of non-astronauts into space. Astronauts. Or in ancient Russia, Cosmonauts. They are people that are put through rigorous tests to ensure they can endure(read survive) life in space, even if just 400km off the face of the planet. Asgardians intend to go into deep space. As a whole, we will have to endure emptiness... Boringness.... Weightlessness...And a whole bunch of other -nesses, if we are going to an ISS-type mothership... However, We don't want that. We are used to gravity at 9.8m/s², so We want "as close to Earth-like" conditions on the mothership, including that nice yummy nutritional food stuffs. So someone needs to develop the following. 1, Gravity to be used onboard our Mothership, that's as close to the one Newton invented(sarcasm); 2, A way to build a Mothership in space(similar to how the Enterprise was theorised to have been built) because we won't really be able to launch a ship of significant size from Earth; 3, A better and more compact way to get people off a planet in most scenarios. To get off the planet needs thrust. LOTS of it, unless the craft we build weighs next to nothing. For example, A fairly normal launch of a Space Shuttle into orbit lasts around 8 minutes(2 minutes initial thrust with SRB's[solid rocket boosters] and 6 minutes of secondary thrust) and needs 2000 tons of varying liquid fuels to get it high enough to orbit the Earth at just 400km high. The fully loaded shuttle weighs around 104 tons, with dimensions as follows: 37 meters long, 17 meters high with a wingspan of 23.5 meters. I was thinking we build a MB Vito size carbon fibre shuttle that can get us off the planet and/or land on one if needed. We need to write computer programs to sort out landing and escape velocity + angle stuffs, we'll need to cover the shuttles in ceramic tiles and ensure there's enough space for a crew and supplies. This way we can go up to space to build the mothership and also use the design for exploratory purposes... So the weight needed is for the structure(200kg), mechanical parts(800kg), engine(500kg each), tiles coating(4000kg), wiring and computers(500kg)... So, without the crew, we are standing at 6 tons per vehicle. That's with one engine. Chances are we will use at least 4. So, 7.5 tons. A lot lighter than a Space Shuttle, but we won't need as much thrust. Around 150 tons of liquid fuel... But, we could use fission engines to produce the necessary thrust, eliminating the need to carry loads of fuel. With enough money, ingenuity and drive, we could indeed get off the rock. But there are loads of hurdles to overcome... I mean, I don't exactly see anyone's hand up to make a bunch of sub-10 ton reusable shuttles.

My posts are fairly all over the place... In that respect, my mind follows suit. I think all over the place. I try my best to stay on topic but I digress... The "suit" we will ultimately wear. Should it be a one piece? Should it be separate? I am off course talking about our Space-walk suit. The one we'll be wearing to go outside. Be it on Pluto, Mercury or just a repair job in the void of S P A C E ... What kind of suit would we be wearing? The first thing that comes to my mind is Mass Effect. The suit worn by the main character, Commander Shepard and the likes. I personally like the form fitting suit that seems to emphasize maneuverability. However, is it possible to make a suit like that? The second type of space suit that springs to mind, are the Dead Space suits. They seem to be more "realistic" in that they have layered sections, they are floppy and more "reasonable", considering that we as humans are not all the same size. As you might've noticed, I have a gaming background, having mentioned Mass Effect and Dead Space. I would like a space suit that'll be worn by thousands of individuals to be based on what "looks" the most comfortable and easy to use, from my own viewpoint. The current NASA space suits look clunky and uncomfortable but they serve a purpose. Theoretically, if we have thousands of people walking and working around in our space-faring "mothership", it would be preferable to have a "one size fits all" space suit in case you are miles away from your own custom made space suit, IF something were to happen where you need to put one on NOW. However, in my mind, it would be easier if you are already wearing your space suit 90% of the time... Kind of disgusting to think of but I'm more in line with 2 custom suits issued to each person with tailor made cleaning and "fragranced" reinforcements where necessary... The NASA astronaut suit takes almost 2 hours to put on. There's no "jump into a space suit quick" type suit available as yet. You need at least 3 people to put the NASA one on. Cables, tubes, electronics, check everything, recheck and triple check everything. You can't put your own helmet on, you can't bend over too far, you need tubes up places you don't want and you need massive scuba tank type oxygen tanks to carry around. Oh, and fire bad! I'm leaning more towards Commander Shepard's bad-a## designs. BUT, how do you fit the cables? And tubes? How do you shield it from radiation? And keep the occupant cool on Mercury... Or keep them hot on Pluto? What about shielding for lava walks as per Star Trek? Yes, my mind in stuck in fantasy mode, but those are realities too. Is it feasible to have only a small percentage on the Mothership be "space-walk suitable"? Granted our new strict-ish diet will sort-of help balance out our different body sizes(i.e. we'll most likely all be lean). I would like to work on a "design a space suit" project but the materials that will be needed are extremely costly. Secondly, I would propose we make a "basic" long-john type design for ease of use with adjustable accessories to add onto the basic suit. Stuff like gloves, boots, shin guards, chest padding, etc. That way we can walk around in the pj's and if anyone needs to go outside for any reason, add the appropriate accessories and Bob's your uncle. Hang on, that's kind of what is being done currently. o.O Thermal undies and all... Except the add-on is one clunky NASA suit... My theoretical space pj's need to be vacuum seal-able in a flash, have a 30-60 minute refillable emergency oxygen supply, must have an all-over radiation filter and an automatic full temperature adjustable function... And it must be breathable and durable for everyday use. Tall order if you ask me.

For the moment, we are Earthlings. Until we leave the third rock from the Sun, we'll stay Earthlings. The closest floating ball to us is the Moon. Put the Sun and Moon next to each other in the sky and if you calculate the size and distance of both, from our viewpoint, they appear to look almost exactly the same size in the sky. Which means during a Solar eclipse, when the Moon moves in front of the Sun, it blocks the entire Sun perfectly. Same goes for Lunar eclipses. The shadow cast by the Earth on the Moon perfectly encases it. Other oddities about the Solar System is that the Planets are positioned at near perfect positions in their own places so that we can move around the Sun in a near perfect loop to sustain life. Jupiter has such a massive gravity that any asteroid or meteorite large enough to be Earth killers, gets pulled into the angry windy giant instead. We have the perfect Star that's not too bright and not too dim. It's also not too hot, nor is it too cold. It doesn't, to the best of our knowledge, flare up or pulse as other stars do. And when we do get the flares, they are mild tempered enough to not boil the skin off our bones. Speaking of which, our Magnetic field acts as a natural barrier for incoming asteroids and solar flares and all manner of possible disasters. If our magnetic field was as bad as Mars', we would simply not exist. The water bulges out towards the Moon and the Sun respectively, giving us tides; we rotate at a specific speed on our axis and we wobble around on that tilt to give us seasons and lastly, our spinning action generates enough of a field to protect us on our travels through space. It is strange to think that every planet in our little part of the galaxy, i.e. the Solar System, is theoretically exactly where it should be in order to keep the other planets in check and to keep harm away from Earth, to a point where we as Earthlings can evolve and thrive on it. Add another giant ball into the mix or change a planet's size in any way will disrupt the balance and there goes life on Earth. It really does seem like a Grand design by some unknown architect. Imagine how lucky we are...
