ESTABLISHING THE SPACE NATION’S SOVEREIGN TERRITORY Nov 9, 01 / November 13, 2017 On 12 November 2017, the space nation’s first satellite, Asgardia-1, was successfully launched into space from the Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, USA. Head of Nation Igor Ashurbeyli was present to oversee the launch. The launch of Asgardia’s first satellite establishes the nation’s sovereign territory in space and satisfies the last condition necessary for admission to the UN: that in addition to the Constitution, a government and a currency, the nation must have a territory. Asgardia’s Constitution has already been accepted; its cryptocurrency, the Solar, is registered at the European Union Intellectual Property Office, and the government formation is underway. The Asgardia-1 satellite is contained within the Orbital ATK Cygnus spacecraft, which is flying atop the Antares rocket to the International Space Station. From the ISS, the satellite will be deployed to outer space, flying in low Earth orbit. Asgardia-1 contains Asgardia’s Constitution, national symbols and other documents, as well as files uploaded by Asgardians.

What Is the Golden Hundred Thousand? During a September Q&A session online , Lena De Winne, the CEO and Vice-President of NGO Asgardia, and the Deputy Head of Administration of Asgardia, addressed a number of questions posted by Asgardians online. One of them concerned clarification of who the Golden Hundred Thousand are, and what it means to be included. “If you have voted for the Constitution before the date of the decree that the voting is over, you are in [the Golden Hundred Thousand],” she said, referring to Decree No 7 issued on 1 September 2017. The actual number of people who have voted for the Constitution before that date is 101,500, she said, but they are all included in what “we symbolically call the Golden Hundred Thousand.” De Winne explained further: “These are the people who voted in support of the Constitution in the first voting term. Once this voting has finished… the Constitution was accepted.” She reminded viewers that the constitutional voting was calculated as the percentage of those who voted “yes” versus all of the people who visited the voting page but did not vote – those are counted as having voted “no.” “The Golden Hundred Thousand are those people who said ‘yes’ before the voting was closed. And these people are already now considered citizens,” De Winne noted. By voting in favour of the Constitution, the people in the Golden Hundred Thousand have thus passed the third level of verification. As to what happens next, De Winne said that “once we are in the position to provide ID cards and passports and services, these people are immediately entitled to claim their citizenship. We will issue identification to people who come to present themselves at the nearest consulate, providing their real documents, identifying themselves as real people. We are very particular about the transparency and the reputation of Asgardia. So the Golden Hundred Thousand have a benefit of having this right already.” Embassies and consulates are yet to be set up. She reminded everyone that Asgardia continues to welcome new people. “Everybody who registers for Asgardia now will be offered to vote for the Constitution, which entitles the applicant to gain citizenship eventually. But, for now, this will be postponed until the Ministry of Citizenship starts operating.”

Asgardia respects the laws of Earth’s nation states and the international treaties on Earth, and wishes to be recognised as an equal country among the nations on Earth. Asgardia does not interfere in the affairs of Earth’s nations on the principle of reciprocity. Asgardia participates in the international-level events on Earth, like any other country, based on its membership in the respective international organizations. Asgardia respects and complies with the rights of citizens of Earth nations, and protects the rights of its citizens in the exclusivity of their space nation citizenship. Asgardia does not engage in politics, and has no place for political parties. But every Asgardian can freely participate in political life on Earth. Asgardia mirrors the Earth, but does not reflect Earthly borders. At the same time, in the framework of Earthly law, every Asgardian can freely live within the borders of any Earthly country. Asgardia is a country of free spirit, science and internationalism. But every Asgardian can freely practice any religion on Earth. There is no place for the history of Earthly conflicts in Asgardia. Asgardia creates a new peaceful history of the future of the humankind in space. We, the people of Asgardia, will do everything for the prosperity of our new space nation created by us; for the protection of our motherland - planet Earth; and the development of the entire humankind in space.
