What is it about the idea of space that draws us in? Is it something to do with the vastness that we fall in love with, or is it possibly the idea that there is still mysteries for us to explore and solve? What drives us to believe in anything, really? What presses us forward into the ever waiting darkness that we all eventually succumb to? What convinces us that there is something, anything to fight for? I believe the answer to all these questions is hope. Hope is the eternal light, reaching out to us from the depths, no matter how deep or dark they may be, that tells us "You must press on, you must keep going. The end is only getting closer, and what is waiting there is worth it." Hope is the eternal flame that drives us to understand, to explore, to reason, to dream, and, most importantly, to reach for those dreams. Hope guides us silently, never asking to be understood, never asking to fall victim to cold reason, or hard logic. It is with great hope, then, that we take these, our first tentative steps towards something far greater than ourselves. Asgardia is the truest expression of hope. It represents the eternal idea of something more, and the eternal search for something else. In this, the very beginning, we will be defined by our leaders. Not just for those of us that have asked to be a part of this experiment, but to all of those around the world, regardless of race, religion, creed, sex, or home. We represent those first tentative steps towards the true unknown. We are the leaders in this moment, and we are the dreamers. As an Asgardian, and even more so as a dreamer, I can not sit idly by and let myself fall to the side as I watch others around me take those steps, the very same steps I have dreamed of taking since I was a child. Even if I am not elected, I can proudly say I stood up when I had the chance, and if elected, no one will ever stand alone.
