Asgardia's first orbit around the sun is complete. One year ago, Dr. Ashurbeyli announced a vision. Our actual anniversary is the 12th of October, but community events are seen to occur during the entire week of celebration, particularly during the weekends. Here are some thoughts to help citizens celebrate this time of reflection and planning.

FOUNDING DAY is a community holiday in Asgardia: the Space Nation to celebrate the anniversary of the announcement given by Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli on October 12, 2016 to create a nation of people with a goal to ensure the peaceful use of space, to protect the Earth from space hazards, and to create a demilitarized and free scientific base of knowledge in space. Asgardia also has a long-term objective of setting up habitable platforms in space and building settlements on the Moon. Founding Day is not an official national holiday unless it is ratified by the Parliament of Asgardia.

Theme: The credo of Asgardia: the Space Nation is “One Humanity, One Unity.”

What to Think about:

1. Discuss ideas related to unity and humanity.
2. Imagine how the world can benefit when people cooperate and share.
3. Consider peaceful uses of space and how cooperative scientific advances can help to protect this planet from space hazards such as asteroids, man-made debris, and solar eruption events.
4. Research and discuss free sources of reliable and up-to-date resources to learn more about science, outer space (astronomy, cosmology, aeronautics), and technology.

How to Celebrate:

1. Meet with other Asgardians online and in-person to share ideas about what it means to share Dr. Ashurbeyli’s vision for the future.

Asgardia has grown tremendously since its inception in October, 2016. It has been my pleasure, my hopes (and a few grey hairs) to help as a Moderator then a group Administrator, to being fortunate enough to gravitate to the epicenter of our change. I helped to organize Civic.Asgardia, providing civil support to the government and corporate structures of Asgardia. My philosophy this entire time has been "Now is a time for change - Step up and help, or shut up and don't hold us back." It's time to come together, it's time to grow... it's time for one humanity, one unity. It's time for Asgardia: The Space Nation!

The following terms and conditions apply to most positions.

* Application. Candidate must complete a non­disclosure agreement and perform an intake interview. Must be verified member of Asgardia.

* Attitude. We encourage all volunteers to conduct themselves professionally and responsibly. Be respectful of other members and volunteers. Commit to volunteering and to attending meetings. Work thoroughly. Communicate schedule conflicts as they arise.

* Skills. All positions require English Language proficiency; Bilingual required for Regional or National work, if applicable. Computer proficiency and reliable Internet connection required, including ability to voice/video conference and to manage social media presence. Professional communication skills required.

* Experience. Experience in similar positions preferred but not required. Asgardia is a meritocracy; unless otherwise required for legal or financial reasons (such as for Chapter Advocate or Chapter Assistant), CV/Resume are appreciated but not required. Promotions are performed from within; it is expected that a volunteer on track for a senior staff position begins in lower positions to earn experience.

* Work Conditions. Most activity is work-­from-­home with some travel possible. Expect flexible hours with scheduled appointments; weekly time commitments vary by position but range from 5-­20 hours per week.. Extended time using the computer and internet may be required.

* Compensation. These are currently volunteer positions subject to incentives and benefits available to any volunteer staff of Civic.Asgardia, such as private staff functions or memberships as they become available. Free position-­related training is available. No insurances are provided. All volunteers will become affiliated with their National Community Chapter and encouraged to participate in programs and events.

*** Social Media Specialists (Global or Community Chapter)

Social Media department of Civic.Asgardia needs Social Media Specialists to moderate and manage global platforms for our general membership or for your National Chapter of Asgardia. Moderation duties in Asgardia Forums and Facebook groups required; members with strong skills in Twitter or Reddit may help manage those platforms instead of Facebook. Strong English language skills required. Work with a Chapter may also require editing of Facebook pages.

*** Specific need for Specialists in the PHL and MEX community chapters.

*** Graphics Designers

Projects department of Civic.Asgardia needs Graphics Designers who can work with a variety of original and themed material for mobile apps, documents, and websites. Expect to work on varied assignments for several departments. Ability to work with team is needed. Apply with samples of work or link to portfolio.

*** Software Developers (Swift, Java)

Projects department of Civic.Asgardia needs a pair of Swift Developers and a pair of Java Developers to volunteer in the growth of our mobile application. Ability to code in Python is also needed in addition to either Swift or Java.

** Social Media Editors for Community National Pages.

Chapters department of Civic.Asgardia seeks help managing specialized groups of members in each country. Editors will engage and mobilize members through active social media participation, will create and implement programs and events in coordination with Civic.Asgardia departments, and will manage all social media channels for their community chapter. Strong English language skills, strong social media experience, and strong teamwork skills are required.

** Translators

Localisation department of Civic.Asgardia needs translators to work in teams to localise documents and event transcripts. Ability to work within deadline is important - some assignments involve translation of live speeches within hours of the event broadcast. Experience with video subtitling a plus. Strong English language skills and strong teamwork skills are required.

** Specific need for translations between each of the following languages and English: Arabic, German, Greek (Modern), English, Persian (Farsi), French, Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Chinese,

** Events Specialists

Events department of Civic.Asgardia seeks members experienced in creating, developing, and implementing programs and events for adults, teens, and children. Primary efforts will be to make activities to engage members of a digital nation, with other tasks to make written training materials that support events at community chapters. Strong English language skills, very strong writing skills, and strong teamwork skills are required.  Multi-cultural experience a plus.

** Writer / Researchers

Administration department of Civic.Asgardia needs documentation writers to research, create, and design material that aids Civic departments, trains Asgardian volunteers, and guides community chapters. Must be familiar with Google Drive. Excellent English language skills required; professional editing/writing experience a plus.

Friends,

The Asgardian Constitution is nearly complete. Our community has given input, offered suggestions. Our Founder and his researchers have refined the ideals, tuned the language. Now it comes back to the citizens for a last round of evaluation.There is much discussion. People are polling to share opinions. People are talking. People debate, argue, some even resign. This may not be the Asgardia they wish to live within.

This is not our Constitution. This is not a document to make each of us happy. It should not provide immediate solace to the world's problems. No government is a panacea.

We cannot ask if each of us personally agrees with every item in the Constitution. That is not our place. Here, we have here a chance to speak to the future. The questions we should ask are these: Does the path created by this document lead to the enrichment of more people than it harms. If Asgardia evolves through this Constitution, will it grow to be a viable and successful nation capable of helping humankind into the future? Is this a wise place to start?

Evaluate the Constitution wisely. Look to the Future. Consider carefully how a new world can develop from the seeds of our present. Notice where it can be amended and changed, where it has space to grow as we, ourselves, evolve. There is room to debate but, for now, we must agree where our new journey begins.

Civic.Asgardia manages community involvement for NGO Asgardia. The larger organization handles space programs, business affairs, and nation-building; Civic.Asgardia works with volunteer management, project management, social media, and other community functions.

We finished our April recruiting drive to bring new volunteers into Civic.Asgardia. 30 new helpers will join us to make Asgardia grow. Learn more about the positions in which they will assist, and in which community chapters they will become involved.
