A society that prioritises fundamental human needs, and equality of access and support to these needs, is true humanity. Asgardia’s present and future should be collaborative, clean, renewable, fair, compassionate, and forward-thinking.
Equality is about everyone have equal opportunities. As a public servant (whether by title or nature) I have always endeavoured to help society and the individuals who make it wonderful. Volunteering, supporting and motivating others has always been a major part of who I am. It started as a love of working in community groups and charities, then it led me into HR, and now I work as an admin manager, (with a sideline in online volunteering and blogging to satisfy my love of the digital lifestyle).
We all life in a digital world, but we don't all live a digital lifestyle. For some citizens, the move to a digital lifestyle has already begun. I'm in that category. Although I have a full-time job that I physically attend, I find that my work, my family, and my social life, all blend into a stimulating and flexible way of life.
This lifestyle is one of the elements of Asgardia that made me so fascinated from the beginning. This nation is about the pursuit of knowledge, and challenging the way we view society. It may be seen as a curious experiment, but it also has the potential to unite people for positive change. We are seeing this already.
But positive change needs a clear direction. Our Constitution is flawed. It is our role as citizens to be vigilant and active in our community and engage with our government to make the changes the result in the vision of Asgardia being realised: a global, unifying and humanitarian project focused on the peaceful use of space, access to knowledge, and protection from space threats.
Online volunteering, online championing, online learning – all of these activities benefit others and help to build strong communities. It is my hope that Asgardia becomes an online haven for anyone wanting to share and build knowledge, always with one's head and heart focused on humanity.
As a civil servant, these is my vision for our society:
Consent: My aim would be to ensure that a majority is not the sole criterion for passing a decision. Decisions should be made by consensus or consent.
Critique: We should not follow the problematic or damaging ideas of the past, until all other options have been exhausted, and only if we implement improvements to prevent previous problems.
Consideration: Asgardia is one of the most exciting projects of our lifetime. It is easy to get carried away in the excitement and attempt to do too much at once. All ideas and decisions deserve full and detailed consideration, to ensure that we take the best steps forward at all times.
There is a lot of work to do. Patience, diligence and care will get us there.
