Space travel seemed like a science fiction concept in the beginning of the last century, but scientific and technological progress had allowed humankind to send a man into space by 1961.

Nowadays, humankind has set itself ambitious goals for the development of the planets, the solar system and access to the deep space. The fast pace of technological and scientific development allows us to speculate that Mars exploration will be possible in a matter of one or two decades.

The United States, Europe and Russia, India, China,the United Arab Emirates, all have planned Martian missions that are scheduled to launch between 2020-2030. In all, there have been more than 40 missions to Mars. Some of them failed, while others completed their goals and closed. Up to date, all successful missions to Mars have been completed by four entities: NASA, Roskosmos, the European Space Agency and the Indian Space Research Organization.

In about five years, UAE and China hope to join the ranks of nations who have successfully explored Mars, while NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) are planning ambitious missions to expand their Mars exploration capabilities.

NASA claims that if they do not interfere with any global cataclysms and killer asteroids fall, the agency will send a human to the Martian surface in the next two decades. NASA has already submitted the concept for the future Martian outpost, whose construction is scheduled to begin around the end of the 2030s.

Researched area radius is planned to be around 100 km. There will be residential modules, research centers, parking for Martian rovers and mining equipment for a team of four people. Several small nuclear reactors will supply the complex with energy. Alternatively, electricity will be generated by sun panels, however they will not be effective during Martians sand storms.

In spite of the importance of Mars exploration programs for all humankind, space agencies are facing financial and technical difficulties and often have to postpone or even cancel some programs. However, before sending an expedition to Mars, a large amount of preparatory legal and scientific work on Earth and near-Earth orbit should be done. Asgardia can contribute the creation of a new juridical reality in space and establishing a new space law that will equally protect the interest of every human being on Earth.

Space law creators will consider all past mistakes made by humankind and prepare people for a new reality while still on Earth. Space exploration must be transparent and its results must belong to all earthlings equally.

It has been exactly two months since I announced the creation of our space nation.

As many of you requested, we extended the registration deadline on the Asgardia website from 31 October to today, 12 December.

The number of registrations has now reached 565,000 and, in order to move to the second stage of creating Asgardia, we have stopped accepting preliminary registrations.

I now ask you to fill out this online form , which will confirm that you are truly serious about your desire to become an Asgardian.

After submitting the form, you will receive a personal certificate and unique ID number that corresponds to your original Asgardia registration.

The first 100,000 people who participate in this second stage - “the commitment verification” - will become the first Asgardians in history able to vote on the Asgardia Declaration of Unity and Constitution, as well as in Asgardia elections and much more.

This does not mean Asgardia is closing its doors to new prospective citizens – of course not! It is being done in order to accelerate the third stage of forming our new nation state – the creation of ID cards, access to the new Asgardia Forum and direct participation in its affairs, and also some other exclusive privileges.

From today, new applicants can fill out the second stage verification form. This opportunity will last until the first 100,000 of the already registered Asgardians are confirmed and it will guarantee the same rights to all of you.

There is second important part in the new verification form. In order for Asgardia to be accepted as a fully-fledged state, it is necessary to negotiate with Earth states and various international organisations.

As the Founding Father, I am ready to take the temporary role of the Head of Nation to act in the name of and on behalf of Asgardia towards these Earth institutions until elections in Asgardia - based on the first Constitution - are held. In order to do this, I need your trust and mandate, which you can confirm in the commitment verification form.

In conclusion, I would like to express my deepest gratitude and acknowledge the work done by our many volunteers – members of our ever-growing team supporting Asgardia.

The Asgardian community has already shown self-organisation of the highest level and is the prototype of a wonderful society for the future that we are all building together.

Winter greetings! Registration on the Asgardia website has started again! Everyone who has registered in the last month will be able to fill out the identity verification form and participate in the Asgardia forum and elections. We will also be accepting new registrations from December 1st until December 12th. Those who register during this time will also be eligible for election participation and, after confirming their identity, will be able to use the new Asgardia forum.

And, on December 12th, Igor Ashurbeyli will address the nation with important new information on the future of Asgardia and Asgardian citizenship.

Greetings to over half a million Earthlings from over 100 Earth countries who have joined Asgardia!

1. One month has passed since 12.10.16, when I announced the creation of the first space nation — Asgardia. We thought that the first 100,000 future Asgardians would register by the end of 2016, but we reached that number within the first 40 hours! And over 500,000 during the first 20 days. So today I want to say to all of you – THANK YOU!

2. At midnight on 31.10.16 I stopped registrations, since it is now time for the second stage – verifying the registrations to make sure they are unique, there are no bots, underage minors without permission, etc. In order to do this, you will be asked to create a personal profile. Those who confirm their identity will get a special certificate with their unique Asgardian number and a symbol of Asgardia.

3. It is also time to vote for the Declaration of Unity of Asgardia, which will declare the core values of Asgardia and will become the basis for the preparation and ratification of the Asgardian Constitution.

4. Simultaneously, I would like to ask you to confirm my temporary authority as the Head of Asgardia, so that I can represent the Asgardian Nation in talks with Earth countries and the UN in order to have Asgardia gain recognition as a full independent state and a UN membership.

5. Immediately after a temporary government will be formed, whose three main tasks will be to get Asgardia recognized as a nation, to hold elections in Asgardia and to launch the first Asgardian satellite.

6. As the result of the elections in 2017, Asgardia will have its own parliament, government and council at three levels: state-wide, continental, and regional chapters. Their main functions and power will be determined as the result of an all-nation discussion.

7. Contest for the Asgardian flag is in progress, and voting is already on-going. I ask you also to participate in the other contests on the Asgardian motto, salutation, etc.

8. A forum will be opened on the Asgardia site in the nearest future. I invite everyone to use it as a discussion space for all of the issues listed above and more, and for all the questions concerning the development of Asgardia. I thank all the volunteers for their initiative and excellent work – all the administrators and moderators of our existing team, and I invite new volunteers to join.

9. Asgardia needs its own mass media outlets, the first of which will be an electronic newspaper in a completely new format that has never been used before. Follow the development of our interactive newspaper and please, participate!

10. There are currently thousands of letters and questions in the Asgardia email accounts that we have not physically been able to answer. All of them will be checked and sorted by the end of the year. Answers to the most common questions will be posted on the Asgardia website in the FAQ section. I will answer non-standard questions and offers myself personally in my new blog on the site main page. The blog will become available online in the next few weeks.

11. During its very short history, Asgardia has already suffered from several attacks – cyber ones as well as attacks on its reputation. There have also been cases of pressure, threats and blackmail attempts on our phone lines and social media. I am declaring that Asgardia is a peaceful nation – but a strong one. We will protect planet Earth from space threats, but we will also not compromise in protecting Asgardia and our citizens to the fullest.

12. Asgardia budget for 2017 will be made public in December. In order to fulfill our budget, we will open a second, commercial website –asgardia.com. We are happy to discuss your offers of generating the Asgardia's revenue both through business projects and through charitable ones.

In closing, I would like to say that WE ARE CONTINUING TO ACCEPT applications for Asgardia.

During the first month of its existence, Asgardia has expanded at the space velocity – just like a space nation should. Let's keep that dynamic going!
