Today was my son's last day of karate. He did the Seiunchin kata (he is now the highest junior in his class :) ) And what does South Africans do when they celebrate ? We "braai" !!!

Yesterday I helped my dad fix a leek on his roof and sitting on the roof with the hammer in my hand I was wondering how our tools and equipment are going to change when we are actually going to populate other planets with different gravity pulls. Once the normal everyday human can buy his little plot of land on Mars and when his little mars habitat is setup. Some maintenance would have to be done on his house and I hope he will be able to do it himself, but your standard tools may have a totally different design. Each planet might have their own type of tools and think of the new laws that will have to be made for situations that doesn’t exist yet. If you use an earth hammer on Mars to fix an outside pipe and it slipped out of your hand and it damage a passing hovercraft because it does not have the quality approved anti(something). You might be in a lot more trouble than just dropping a hammer on earth. Maybe all tools should be traceable in the future, and it might be illegal to scratch the serial number of your hammer because tools maybe seen as lethal projectiles. Just imagen what the future that awaits us 😊

There is no argument that all our lives have changed drastically the last couple of months, all over the world. The one thing that I found interesting, is the amount of people that had/have difficulty with self isolating. Our company supply essential services to our clients, so I had the pleasure of having a call out on day no 4 of our full lock down. It was to a sweet old lady. When I was finished with the job, she told me she was going mad and are “climbing the walls”, she can not take one more day of this lockdown. Since then, I had a lot of similar experiences. Well this made me think of how some people will react to space travel. In a space ship or space ark, there is no place to go “out” for some fresh air. Our first commercial space travel will be a long way away from us being able to be among indoor vegetation or even a good holodeck. We will not only have to look at how our bodies handle zero gravity but also how we will mentally be ready to handle an extended length of time in enclosed spaces.

Everyone loves to eat good food, but not everyone loves cooking. Believe it or not but cooking is really good for your mental health because cooking is an act of patience, its an outlet for your creativity and it helps to raise one’s self esteem as it feels good doing something positive for your loved ones. I am from South Africa and one of my favourite customs we have here is a good ‘braai’ (pronounced “bry”, rhyming with the word “cry). In other parts of the world you will know it better as a BBQ or grill (meat over an open fire - spoiler alert I am not a vegetarian). There is a South African saying, that goes like this: South Africans are strange people. We ‘braai’ when things are bad We ‘braai’ when we celebrate and when we have nothing to do, then we ‘braai’ Yes, we are very strange. If you want to discuss this, bring you meat tomorrow and lets have a ‘braai’ and discuss this and anything else :) Tonight we are having a ‘braai’, celebrating our live together as a family, and my nomination to run for parliament, of course.

We are forming a new nation, and the truth is we are all coming from different backgrounds, with different histories and different cultures. It is inevitable that we are going to encounter situations that could cause friction and tension. Cultural exchange is sharing different ideas, traditions, and knowledge with someone who may be coming from a completely different background than your own. The intention is to have a nation’s culture understood by members of other countries and in doing so, creating broad and smooth relations with each other. Understanding the cultures of other countries and promoting mutual understanding not only serve as a vital means of avoiding unnecessary situations with friction and tension between each other but will also help refine Asgardia’s own culture and raise its level further through contact with and absorption of the cultures of other countries At a governmental level, cultural values influence what institutions are formed and how they perform. It is difficult to maintain a democracy if the underlying values necessary to sustain it are not respected in the first place. However the values that shape personal success are not always the same as those that govern at a governmental success. What is best associated with success for ourselves can be disastrous for the nation.
