My name is Parmjit Singh Gill and I live in the large city of Leicester, UK, with my wife, son and daughter.
I work at the University of Leicester where I am leader of the Information Assurance Services Section.
Born in the UK, I’m a British citizen with Indian parents who arrived in the UK in 1965. I have been involved in British politics for over 30 years.
Along the way, I was elected to Leicester City Council and served for eight years as a Councillor and for almost four years as a Member of the Executive Cabinet.
Leicester is regarded as the multi-cultural capital of the UK with communities from all over the world. In that sense, it’s just like Asgardia!
In 2004, I was elected to the British Parliament in a dramatic by-election victory in Leicester south.
It was referred to as the ‘referendum on Iraq’ and reported by media from all over the world. I was seen as a candidate for peace, not war. As a Member of Parliament I learned a great deal and realised the importance of integrity, collaborative working across different political beliefs, and inspirational leadership.
Academically, I studied Biochemistry in London and Management and IT to Master’s Degree level too.
From an early age, I’ve had a great interest in space exploration and have no doubt that ‘we are not alone.’ The belief in extra-terrestrial intelligence – even if we haven’t met others yet - inspires me to help us reach out to a cosmos which we must inhabit to fulfil our exploratory yearnings as a species.
Asgardia is the answer to how humanity can colonise space peacefully and inspirationally. My knowledge of science, politics, Information Technology and diverse communities mean I can make a real and valuable contribution to the work of our new nation. I hope you can support me with your vote.
