Hey y’all, So I am reading through the constitution to establish residency, cus I’m a nerd who reads stuff before signing lol(especially when I’m invested). Why grief, why now? Our lives have changed on many levels: change in routine, schedule, roles, responsibilities, etc. Our self and world views on safety, relationships and survival have been altered and are still in a state of flux. Because of ALL of the factors that are within us and in our environment, we are experiencing grief to varying degrees each and every day and it will continue for some time. What is important now is to consider taking a brief moment each day to recognize your thoughts and feelings, and how some of them are grief related. For us now, grief and loss can feel constant. So, what to do: 1.) Remind yourself that your grieving process is unique to you. 2.) Pay attention to the emotional pain you are experiencing. Avoid letting it build up. Talk about it. Encourage kids to talk about what they are feeling and experiencing. 3.) Make sure you regularly reach out and seek support from trusted people and/or professionals. 4.) Can someone please update me on what progress we as a Nation has made..by me being a "Essential worker" along with other people. I wasn't able to keep track of what's really going on...I haven't heard anything about things we Asgardians can do...we haven't got any physical ID CARD nor our PASSPORTS Yet...So are we still waiting to get recognize? PPE for the Brain At this point, most people who are nearing the peak or are in the peak of COVID-19, are experiencing many, many high emotions. While this is normal given the circumstances, just knowing that may not provide immediate relief. Many people are trying to manage a new version of a routine. It is perfectly acceptable to call this time period ‘weird’, ‘scary’, ‘uncertain’, ‘longest snow storm ever’, etc. For many, especially: caregivers, educators, clergy, medical professionals, and first responders, they continue to be inundated with multiple roles, confusion over information, new tasks and extraordinarily long hours. ALL of these factors I just described begin to take a toll on the body. • The immune system is impacted (and we need this more than ever right now) • The lack of quality sleep in significantly decreased • The brain’s ability to appropriately problem solve and critically think is diminished. This often allows for the worry based thoughts and the negative thoughts to enter and take control. If you find yourself feeling at a 10:10 on the worry, exhausted or negative thinking scale, it’s time you consider some PPE for your brain. Good news….there is an endless supply and mostly FREE. The PPE includes: o Brain Breaks: scheduled brain breaks (minutes to hours away from C-19 news/discussions). o Mitigate Sensory Overload: a quick review of which senses are overloaded (ie: think back to kindergarten: visual, sound, touch, taste and smell). Once you figure out which sense is overloaded, you can then look at how to mitigate it (ex: if it’s noise, do you need no noise or a different noise for a period of time, etc.). This will allow you to take a targeted PPE approach when you prepare for the next shift, conversation, etc. o Nutritional Support: hydrate, hydrate, hydrate (with water/electrolyte balance is preferred) and consider more nutritionally balanced meals/snacks. o Routine: routine is essential to humans…..look at what parts of your old routine you can still keep and incorporate into your new routine. o Breathe: there are specific ways to slow yourself down mentally and phsiologically that are backed by neuroscience. Much of this relates to particular ways to breathe. Examples include: 4x4x4 (box breathing), 4x7x8, belly breathing. Sometimes this takes a few rounds to notice a difference. There are many examples on the web. To walk you through it. o Cognitive Management: Notice and address the thoughts: ignoring your thoughts don’t really make them go away. Notice them, decide if the thoughts are helpful and good for you right NOW. If they are not, consider other thoughts that could be more helpful to you in that moment (ie: what am I going to do?.....alternative thought: what do I have control over right now/any ‘what if’ thought…..alternative thought: how many of these ‘what if’ thoughts do I need in my head right now). Much of this is CBT/mindfulness based and can be found through books, apps. and the web. o Emotional Regulation: this is a super power PPE for your brain! This is your ability to respond to ongoing stressors. Right now, MANY people can be found responding in a reactive manner. You can learn to control your response using various tools that allows you to feel more in control and emotionally balanced. o When you begin to notice that you feel like more of your thoughts are high emotion based rather than rational, it’s time to take a step back and recalibrate! o STEP 1: Notice the thoughts and the emotions you are having NOW. o STEP 2: Hitting the ‘pause button’ and evaluating your emotional state. If you’re a 10:10 on any emotion, think about how you can better regulate yourself and respond in a less emotionally heightened manner. o STEP 3: Think about a response that will leave you feeling more emotionally balanced. No matter if you thrive in this environment, no matter if you’re scared…….you are experiencing new and varying levels of stress right now. As you experience the shifts from adrenaline rush to fatigue to panic to loss of routine to anger (in any order), take note of these experiences and look for opportunities to engage in a way that is more meaningful and helpful to you. This is a simple survival tactic that you must begin practicing today. o Consider which of your senses is on overload right now. o Consider what would help you. For example: if you are struggling to detach from a screen, and the noise is causing you to feel negative….take a sensory break from that stimulation. Yes, it can be that simple. o Don’t be fooled into thinking “I can’t”. o Don’t be fooled into thinking, “I’m fine, I can handle it.” o I challenge you to notice and begin spending 5 minutes decompressing. I’m a therapist who treats anxiety. I’m also a mom and this is what I’m telling my own kids about COVID-19 also known as coronavirus: PERSPECTIVE TAKING: Yes, this is a new virus and sometimes something new can be seen as scary, especially in an age of technology in which we do not have all of the answers. You, just like your children, have a right to feel scared at times given all of the information both fact and fiction that is being pushed through various media platforms. Remember, your children will learn how to cope and manage their fears from you. You are their role model and if this is a worry for them, they will look to you to understand and manage their fears. It is your responsibility to help them better understand the information they are receiving. They have little experience in managing stress and information. They need you now. Children of all ages will have common fear-based questions related to COVID-19. Remember your child's level of understanding is based on their age, past experience with fear and current life challenges. Make a point to sit down with your child and ask them what they know about this new virus, ask them what questions they have and what facts and/or rumors they have heard. LISTEN: Listening to what your child says can be powerful. It can create a strong relationship between you and your child. When your child feels able to express big emotion (like fear) and the thoughts behind them, a greater depth of trust has just been established. Depending on their age, their fears and or questions may seem silly, not connected and minimal to you. It is important to remember that children understand the world very differently, at different ages, because of brain development and personal experiences. To them, their thoughts and fears are very strong and very real. LISTEN to them. VALIDATE: Once they have shared their thoughts and feelings, validate them. Say things like: “Wow, that sounds scary for you” “I’m sorry to hear you have been worrying so much about this” Let them know what you appreciate they shared and express empathy to them about what they are experiencing. Do NOT say: ”Don’t worry” “I’ll do the worrying for you” Statements like these are felt by a child as if their worry is not important to you. Statements like these can keep a child feeling less in control than before and even feeling “more stuck” which can then exacerbate worrying thoughts and behaviors. TALK/CONTROL THE NARRATIVE: This is a great opportunity to talk about this virus and help them with an appropriate and accurate narrative. Questions to ask your child: “What have you heard or read about this virus?” If you, as a parent are not worried, you can says things like: “I am not worried, you can be worried and I want you to tell me when you have worry thoughts so we can talk about them, but right now I am going to work on making sure you wash your hands, stop touching your face and practice being mindful of those who might be sick around you” Let them know “There are things in our control and we, as a family are going to focus on those (aka: prevention and planning).” TEACH: This is a great opportunity to involve your kids, of any age, in age appropriate planning and prevention. Kids love to be in control and just like adults, when they have some answers, have a trusted source to confide in, and can ‘do something’, their worry will lessen. Use this opportunity to teach them about the importance of information gathering, using trusted sources of information and recognizing when they are feeling information fatigue. Hey Asgardians, I as in many of you have been waiting for a long time, I've been apart of Asgardia every since it came into existence...Birthday had past on the 24 of Aquarius. And hardly did anything for it, but we can agree as a collective that action within our nation needs to be taken. Give us some sort of place we can be at to live at our full potential not hindered by outside forces that poses no use or unknown anomalies such as Mythical Creatures and ect. Until we can be In Space with all the necessary knowledge that we need as a unified force or collective. Maybe try to get Elon Musk, Aliyah from Galaktika, or others alike to at least show interest if they haven't had any knowledge of our Existence on the surface of this planet. I know it can be infuriating but determination and unification is all we have..Yet there is no type of knowledge for us to know if we are recognized by the U.N. Or not. Many of us are waiting for our Passports and also Asgardia Tron Made IDs. Its Been well over 3 years. So hopefully something comes about.
