Here are 3 variations of a "fresnel zoning plate" flag design.
The zoning plate focuses light and waves and fresnel lenses have been used for centuries in light houses to bring lost sailors to shore, & is seen as well in the lights of aircraft landing strips.

The 3 concentric circles in the design may represent a trinity, mind body & spirit, father son & spirit, or an initial thought, the expression of that thought, and the reception & meaningful interpretation of that thought.

The concentric circles also represent a closed loop, closed circuit, or a closed system, indicating that asgardia is more or less self sustaining.

The sevenfold nature of the symbol is designed to represent the diversity from the various corners of the globe, the many diverse races of mankind working together; unifying and focusing their efforts towards a common goal for their progeny.

The number seven has held much value in our belief systems throughout history and a recent study has found it to be the majority of humanities favorite number, sounding similar to the chinese term for "life" & "arise", it has found significance in Buddhism, Japanese mythology, Hinduism through the seven chakras, as well as the sacred texts of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.

Examples of this value are plentiful in nature, practically all mammals have 7 cervical vertibrae, 7 is a neutral pH value between acidity and alkalinity, there are 7 rows of elements in the periodic table, it is the amount of crystal systems & crystal lattice systems, & the International System of Units defines a set of seven basic units of measurement.

My favorite examples are the 7 colors in the ROYGBIV visual spectrum, it's about the number of variations of orders you can notice in color interference, and there are 7 harmonious notes in the diatonic scale.

The colors of the image, most importantly, are derived from a normal map. In computing, these are used to determine a sense of direction from a 2D image to translate into 3D lighting information.
Just as a computer or a game designer would use this information to find orientation in a mess of data, so will we find orientation through the asgardia project.

It is also worth noting that this shape can be created through the harmonic resonance and dampening effects of cymatics when sand or a liquid is vibrated at just the right frequency, something like G5 at 784hz.

It has been said that gradients would not go well on a flag as they would be difficult to reproduce, but it would be hard to argue that even a toddler could easily draw this symbol, and as Jaque Fresco would say, we should be at the forefront of technology, so I think printing more than simple solid colors onto a flag isn't impossible for a post-2016 world.

I hope that through the Asgardia endeavor we can find relief from the overwhelming heaps of population growth 0soon to be seen in our megacities over the next 15 years, a recent video released by the pentagon states that cities will account for 60 percent of the worlds population & 60 percent of urban population will be under the age of 18, just in 2030. Like Igor Ashurbeyli says, " However, the fact that many people seem to forget is that future is not coming to us on its own. So far, all we’ve created is more of the present, and so we should have some humility when undertaking the most ambitious projects in human history."
