The greater symbol of the flag is an anchor which represents “[…] safety, stability and hope”. (BRUCE-MITFORD, 1996, p. 97). As a “[…] a global, unifying and humanitarian project” (ASGARDIA, 2016), the Asgardia Project aims to bring stability in the human expansion into space, avoiding that earthly conflicts transcend to space. The anchor, set as the major symbol in the flag, highlights the aim of the Asgardia Project.

There are two blue symbols, the one on the middle of the anchor and the other at the center of the white star. The first symbolizes Earth which is where our anchor was first set, the bottom of the symbol points down meaning that we must always remember where we came from and that we are brothers and sisters despite all our differences and disagreements. The blue circle at the center of the white star symbolizes our future, that we will peacefully – that is why it is a white star – find others stars and recreate the paradise of Earth – blue circle.

The upper area of the flag has a left and right side containing two symbols that resemble the letter C. These symbols are inspired by the gold plate in Voyager 1, a space probe launched on September 5, 1977. In Voyager 1 these symbols will help to define a language (mathematics) for an alien species to decipher the writings in the plate, they represent the time an electron takes to rotate around an atom’s core. For Asgardia this means we want to build a cooperative relationship with any other intelligent beings we will find in this journey.

There are six eagles representing six continents on Earth and in the center of anchor a white area representing Africa and Earth’s atmosphere. There are many meaning to the eagle symbol, but in this case is highlighted “power and strength”. (BRUCE-MITFORD, 1996, p. 66). These eagles are the history of humanity, they created the culture, rights, technology and stability we will bring to Asgardia. Africa is centralized because it is considered by contemporary archeology the birth place of the homo sapiens, the start of us as a species two hundred thousand years ago. The white area in the center of the anchor also represent Earth’s atmosphere, meaning we live in cooperation with other species and need to take this environment to space if we want flourish out there.

The orange background of the flag symbolizes “flames, […] luxury and splendor”. (BRUCE-MITFORD, 1996, p. 106). This translates to Asgardia effort to have its citizens living a dignifying life, by providing justice, security and hope.

The black colors symbolize space. It paints the majority of the anchor and in the C like symbols. In the anchor it represents where we will be setting this anchor, in space. In the C it represents we will be interacting with other intelligent species.
