DECLINED PETITION

A most serious issue of time in the Asgardian election...

To the Asgardian Parliament, the Head of Nation, and all Asgardians:

Perhaps it is my own fault for not being " on the ball ," as it were, although it did take some time for me to make the decision to run as a candidate in Asgardia's first Parliamentary election, but I am certain that other candidates are sharing in my frustration right now, and thus this petition.

Specifically, those who have registered the earliest to run as candidates for the Parliamentary elections have had substantially more time to collect votes, and this seems to be an unfair advantage, where not all citizens of Asgardia have been citizens for the same amount of time, and where not all candidates have recognized their potential or their want to run for office.

In my particular case, I had troubles uploading my resume, as it was simply too large (an issue with the file size, not with the length of my resume, humour implied), which cost me two weeks, so that, including a computer problem, I had a full month's delay in becoming a candidate.

What I suggest, then (albeit perhaps only an option for future elections, since the election is currently far underway), is that candidates must apply by a certain date, and only following this deadline can the voting process begin.  This would ensure fairness (as I currently, upon writing this, only have a handful of votes, while other candidates––whose sole advantage/ appeal may have been the length of their candidacy––have managed to acquire hundreds).

It therefore seems that some candidates have had the unfair advantage of being part of a smaller group of initial candidates, meaning that some citizens may have cast their vote prior to having even had alternative options; whereas, in a standard election, there is a single voting day, with the exception that some people, in some countries, are able to vote in advance.  Being that Asgardia strives to be a real, legitimate, and sovereign national entity, and that it seeks to be both honest and fair in its elections, this would resolve the issue of some candidates having had this unfair advantage over others.

( Just for the sake of clarity, I am not, in any way, implying that any candidates have intentionally gained an unfair advantage, but only that this advantage has occurred by default, based exclusively on the current conditions/ policies regarding this first Parliamentary election .)

We are still growing, adjusting our policies, and working together to build our nation, one step at a time, where certain "speed bumps" and growing pains are to be expected, and so it is petitions like this one that will serve to embolden future candidates, which will ensure that our fledgling democracy becomes truly exemplary... a beacon of light in a very dark and foggy world.

I thank you for your consideration on this matter, and " Vive Asgardia, Libre! "

Dear Sean, I hear you and I understand your frustration. You are not the only one to have suffered from technical difficulties since you've become a Citizen I imagine sometime last summer. Though the elections have started in early November, it is unfortunate for you to have joined so late ...

A wonderful and heartfelt contribution. Thank you sincerely, Ivan. I have been rather desperately trying to figure out HOW to even be seen, and yes, Facebook is probably the only realistic method. Being that this 'election' is global, and NOT regionally based, there really are no traditional means of accomplishing ...

*"real interactions," not "task interactions." We'll need to be able to edit our posts here too... unless I just don't see the option, which makes it an interface problem..... As I said, learning curve... :)
