I have not read every submission on this forum however i have tried to go through as many as possible of the suggestions. So I appologise if i step on someone's toes, it is not intentional. I feel a constitution should be more about the fundamental principles and how they are enacted, rather than the detail of the legal and governmental system. It is true that some countries have their constitution spread over laws and articles etc however it seems that a simple short constitution covering the principles of: (a) what defines the nation with a statement of purpose and goals (b) what defines membership of the nation (c) what defines government of the nation (d) definition of the rule of law with some statement of the limits of power (e) some definition of how positions of government are allocated/gained (f) some statement of how finances are to be handled by govt. Possibly these parts contain the basis of a constitution. My reasoning expands from 2 thoughts: (1) The more detail that is placed in the over-riding principles the more human nature tends to find ways around them. This seems to lead to the problems surrounding most of our current legal systems bringing us to the litigious situation we have in many countries these days. (2) A constitution should be simple, compact and easily read, understood and remembered by all living under it. It should not be cumbersome or contain the minutia of the law. Please don't think I'm saying there doesn't need to be detailed laws. These can be handled in by-laws and articles of law which can and should be drafted and voted on in whatever manner of ratification we finally settle on. I am saying, rather than a lot of detailed laws within the constitution i feel we should set out the PRINCIPLES by which we are to live and govern. I guess it might even be appropriate to codify the principles and sentiment encapsulated by the founder with the addition of the statements of limits of power, as if you look carefully at the statements that have come out from "head office" (so to speak) most of the content principle is there. Having said all the above here are some thoughts to be critically analysed by all and sundry: (a) Certainly our fundamental principles should include neutrality, equality and freedom to practice lifestyles/culture that don't hinder, impede or harm others. (b) Perhaps we should put some thought into how govt is selected. Maybe govt positions are selected from the pool of citizens without elections. In other words everyone who has not disqualified themselves must serve and are appointed by random selection. I understand there are problems with this approach, however it would certainly remove the even bigger problems with the 3 main forms of govt selection currently being used on earth. This would also require proper education of all citizens and solid, enforceable rules of conduct and limitation on power. (c) Perhaps our by-laws could follow a compact principle arrangement as well. Perhaps something like (not being religious) the 10 commandments - which most countries kind of follow in their laws anyway. My point is not to follow a religion, however the principles encoded in at least 7 of those statements cover life in general and give a framework of principles that all subsequent law must stem from. I understand that it's possible my approach leaves room for moralising etc, I guess this is why we are all putting forth ideas for discussion rather than putting forth our own version of the constitution :-)

I think bulk resources would be our biggest contribution, because let's face it this project will need a LOOOOOOTTTTTT of metal. Our radars and telescopes could also play a big part. But enough of my ideas! What do you guys think!?

"Democracy is the worst form of government ... except for all those other forms that have been tried from time to time." - Winston Churchill Ahoy fellow Asgradians, in this post i want to talk about is Asgradia going to be a Democracy like we see here in many contries on earth. From what i have seen Asgradia plans to be a democracy, but what im wondering is what kind of democracy do we plan to be and what kind of vote system will it be, Like would it be a two party system ( oh i hope not hehehe :) ) And what kind of voting system do we plan to use, like would it be first past the post (again i hope not) like in the U.S or would it be a  Single Transferable Vote systems (S.T.V) or Mixed-Member Proportional Representation voting system or maybe even the Alternative vote system like i think we use here in Australia (not sure though) Or will we create our own form of democracy that branches off the normal form of democracy we use today in most nations on earth. In my opinion this is what i would like to see as we are a unique nation, we should create our own unique form of democracy and goverment and see if we can better it :). One of Asgradias main goals as a nation is to help earth and advance it, so i think we should have an advanced governing system to hopefully cut out coruption and personal greed out of Asgardias govering body. I know this would be hard work to try and create a perfect democracy system but one thing Asgradia has that other nations dont, is right now everyone from all diferent races and walks of life can put in ideas to Asgradias govering body to help create Asgradia and build it into a great nation. The nations on earth dont have this, they only have a room fall of old man politicians who are out of touch with the everyday person to come up with ways to better their nation, and this is way they fail alot of the time. So we have an advantage to really make a great nation with true democracy right now ( which is pretty cool ;) ). What do you think? My name is Jacob! I am 19, my hobbies include Gaming, Music, Movies, Reading and Archery! I have been following Asgardia for a while now (and only now just got the e-mail for the id code thing!). I am a jack of all Trades. I have worked as a Chef, a Carpenter and a Farmhand (I get bored easily!), and I am currently trying to apply for the Defense Force. What are people's views of Nuclear energy in use in space? I don't want to hear that people are against nuclear fission/fusion in space as Stars are fusion/fission generators... What specific feedback I would like people to provide is in regard to the use of non-solar power generators in space within space vessels/space stations, fully autonomous vessels and satellites. Larger objects in space provide for a larger target for micro-meteorites or space debris to hit. While I'm a big fan of what solar panels can do, the big problem I see is that should one be hit the larger the environmental impact for function-able satellites, space station, or space vessels. There are many types of reactors, the most common ones are geared to produce lots of radioactive wastes. I have been reading about Thorium reactors which are inheritance more stable, safer and produce far less nuclear waste. Thorium is highly abundant, I believe that 1cm3 of Thorium can power a car for a year. While solar is highly effective with newer panel technology providing increasing efficiencies. Thorium would provide a safe, compact energy source, that requires less shielding, is cheap to operate due to its reduced supporting infrastructure requirements. Space vessels and autonomous vehicles that might be deployed to recover space debris or cargo launched into space would benefit from having power sources that are compact and not prone to damage that can occur when traveling though space debris hot spots. The two countries that have significant historical research into Thorium reactor technology is the United States (through research done in the 1950's-1970's), and India through their current Thorium reactor program.
