Dois satélites da missão Mars Clube One (MarCO), da NASA, desapareceram no espaço depois de passar perto de Marte. Os robôs apelidados de Wall-E e EVE, em homenagem aos personagens criados pela Pixar, perderam o contato com a base da agência espacial há mais de um mês.

Em nota divulgada nesta terça-feira (5), a NASA afirmou ser improvável estabelecer contato com os satélites novamente. Wall-E foi ouvido pela última vez em 29 de dezembro; EVE, em 4 de janeiro. Segundo os cálculos dos engenheiros, atualmente eles devem estar a mais de 1,6 milhão e 3,2 milhões de quilômetros de Marte, respectivamente.

A equipe de engenheiros imagina que podem existir várias razões para a perda de contato. Wall-E, por exemplo, tem um propulsor que deixa de enviar e receber comandos em áreas de oscilação. Segundo eles, os sensores responsáveis por recarregar as baterias a partir da luz solar também podem ter quebrado.

Mesmo que os satélites não sejam mais encontrados, a NASA considera MarCO um sucesso. "Esta missão sempre foi sobre ultrapassar os limites da tecnologia miniaturizada e ver o quão longe ela poderia nos levar. Estabelecemos um novo marco. Os futuros CubeSeats podem ir ainda mais longe”, disse Andy Klesh, engenheiro-chefe da missão.

Venho reforçar a importância de pensarmos um passo de cada vez. É interessante observarmos candidatos prometendo estações espaciais, viagens interplanetárias e uma nação idealizada digna de um filme utópico futurista.

Precisamos, porém, pensar nos passos iniciais que teremos de tomar para um dia chegar a essa nação utópica que é o que nos motiva a continuamente apoiar e divulgar Asgardia.

Neste momento de nossa história estamos dando nossa primeira respiração, tal como um recém-nascido ao acabar de ser retirado da placenta de sua mãe. Precisamos pensar no que nos é mais importante agora para manter nossa sobrevivência e garantir o nosso futuro.

Ser reconhecimento pelas Nações Unidas é um desses primeiros e importantíssimos passos que devemos buscar para garantir a recém-nascida Asgardia a chance de crescer e se tornar uma prospera nação. I come here to reinforce the importance of thinking one step at a time. It is interesting to look at candidates promising space stations, interplanetary journeys, and an idealized nation worthy of a futuristic utopian movie.

We need, however, to think about the initial steps we must take to one day reach this utopian nation which is what motivates us to continually support Asgardia.

At this point in our history, we are giving our first breath, just like a newborn upon being removed from his mother's placenta. We need to think about what is most important now for us to maintain our survival and secure our future.

To be recognized by the United Nations is one of those first and very important steps we must take to ensure the newborn Asgardia a chance to grow and become a thriving nation. We will need the financial and intellectual support of people and nations across the globe, we can not isolate ourselves from the planet we were born to, but work together for a better future for humanity as a whole and not just for the citizens of Asgardia.

I reinforce here my desire to be working towards this goal, that of being recognized by nations and terrestrial organizations, thus obtaining support for our future projects.

Do not think, however, that I am too realistic, like most citizens of our nation I also dream of interplanetary travel and a society focused on science and well-being, but I know that to achieve this goal will require a lot of work and dedication here on planet earth.

Technology and science, as well as other areas, must be used for the good of the nation and its individuals.
