As an engineer, I'd like to jot the first post here to remind me as an asgardian.   I'll contribute all my knowledge to this new nation.

Asgardia, human’s first space nation to-be, has recently gained its population to 200,000.

It is a inspiring event in both ways. In good way, it shows that many humans, no matter where they are for now, want to move to space, to expand the borders of human’s world. In bad way, well, there’s a lot of problems of the citizens-to-be that has already been shown, and we even haven’t left the Earth yet.

Some of these problems, such as language, education, physical quality, can be solved by the means that we can easily imagine. However, there is at least one major problem remains: where do we find enough females?

It’s not like that I’m with masculinist bias. As a married man, I respect my wife not only as a wife, but also as a independent working woman. In fact, in my family, my wife is in charge for almost everything.

On MAP page of Asgardia.space-the official website of Asgardia-you can see the locations and genders of the people who has become a registered member of Asgardia all over the world. Do some random browse and a little math, you will find that compare to men, women are too few.

To be more specific, according to my rough calculation, male to female ratio of Asgardia is higher than 4:1. It means that if Asgardians insist on monogamy, and most of them are straight (this is proved by the gender selection when people register), then almost only one quarter of males can find their wives.

It is definitely a hell of problem for the people who will actually live in Asgardia-the space nation. It is not only a problem of reproduction, but also a problem of entertainment.

Think about it: as a straight man, after a long week, you finally have some free time to spend, you want to go for a date, you think that you can find a woman to marry eventually. You log onto a local date website of Asgardia, then you realise that there is NO ONE that you can date. Because there are thousands of horny man dying for real sex life.

Then you start to think: where are the women? Well, most of them are already settled down-being married or having a serious relationship with absolute great men. They are not for you. The others are lesbians. They are not for you either.

So, what can you do, if you want to physically live in Asgardia, to have a sex life? Maybe you can buy (or rent, if you don’t mind) a sex robot. A sex robot is not a real woman, I believe you know it, but it beats traditional masturbation. Or, you can change your sex orientation. However, with all due respect, changing sex orientation is almost impossible for a natural born straight guy.

I hope that the organizers of Asgardia can think about this seriously. Personally, I am ok with abandoning monogamy. But we can’t force the others-men and women-to do the same thing. Because monogamy has been a common value of human beings for hundreds of years. And it is still a civilized idea for all of us. Asgardians are still humans at least, we share the same culture of humans. We are not aliens.

Will Asgardia become a matriarchal society? We can’t tell yet. But if we abandon monogamy, there would be a good chance. And, personally, I’m ok with this, too.

But we have to think about this: if we leave too much behind us, what will we become? Will we still be humans? How do we keep humanity? Will we divide from humans who remain on the Earth? What would you call them when you meet some intelligent creatures that are from another solar system, speaking different language, having different culture, but have exact same DNA of us? Not alien, I hope.
