I'm sure that as the station grows from tens to hundreds to thousands of people, the psychological condition will change from "ship (boat)" family to large ship/oil rig/small village community, to small town community, to a city type of community. At first everyone will know everyone, and eventually that will expand.

Do not know anything about space training(yet), but i can surely guess that for psychological problems and envoirement training, it is possible to take the basics from "ship life" training. Have done the training my self. Basically it must be somewhat same, becouse on ship crew has the same way: only small and limited space for living and work and ofcourse a lot of different people with different world views living closely toghether. You HAVE to become somewhat a Family. These ship policies work for centuries already. Correct me if i am wrong.

I strongly suspect the healthcare costs of dealing with microgravity will exceed the costs of building a rotating station for artificial gravity. We know a lot about what happens to adults in smicrogravity and it's not pretty. There are plenty of ways to mitigate it, but nothing is 100% effective so far and there aren't ideas to reach that threshhold. The bigger concern is pregnancy and child development, which have had very little research. Severe growth abnormalities are expected and it's possible children raised in microgravity may not be able to live in a normal gravity environment.

I can reduce the worry. The problem is "easy" to deal with. First, a little about radiation. For a gross over-simplification think of a pool table setup to go and all the balls neatly in a triangle ready to break - this represents the contrsuct of an atom. Protons, neutrons and eletrons in a tidy little package. Should a stray particle of great speed impact this tidy little package - illustrated in this example by the white ball colliding the triangle on a break - it de-stablises the contents causing high speed particles to release. The three major types of radiaiton - Alpha, Beta, and Gamma - are commonly ordered by "penetration depth" - long story short, density matters. The more dense an atom is, the more resistence it will pose to the high speed particles. Alpha is moving at the greatest speed, but has the least penetration depth - a few CM of air or a thick sheet of card can provide sufficient shielding. Your skin should be thick enough to stop it(although, it will absorb the damages and likely lead to things like skin cancer) and should require direct contact for long times to cause harm - swallowing it or breathing in a small particle however is likely fatal as it'll allow it to damage something important. Beta has a little more depth penetration going some distance in air a sheet of aluminium foil should be thick enough to absorb it. Gamma going many miles and taking a few inches of lead(denser than 80% of the periodic) to absorb. Hydrogen, being atomically dense, is an excellent "barrier" - but has several drawbacks like being explosive and difficult to keep aligned in a useful pattern unless under pressure - and historically hydrogen and pressure don't tend to be a good mix. Water contains lots of hydrogen, and is dense as a substance whilst being significantly less volitile - however exposure will decay this to deutrium and reduce the supply of usable water which on the scale of it possibly isn't the most sensible resource to squander. To those thinking of just wrapping up in foil attention should be drawn to "secondary emittence" - to consider the pool table analogy, say the triangle is an aluminium atom... As the white ball(this time representing "cosmic rays") hits it and causes emittence, these would be recorded as X-rays. For something presenting minimal secondary emittences Iron appears to be quite good. Iron is quite common, with most asteroids being quite heavy in their nickle and iron composition. To seriously entertain mass residence in the stars we'll need to be tapping resources in asteroids anyway - lifting the required mass is unfeasible as this would take thousands of years just to begin assembling pieces, at one launch per day using NASA's new SLS system comming online soon. Taking it from up there using exponentially expanding methods is the only way to get at such in a reasonably timeframe(and we're still talking decades) so naturally create megatonnes of nickle, and iron. Thusly, I personally would be creating an external barrier that clips to the external pressure hull of about five meters thick NiFe - This is largely overspec to requirements, with the nickle/iron composition providing for "sufficient" shielding from radiaiton at 1/5th of this thickness should any make it through the 7½CM of titanium it's skinned in. I'd be comfortable sitting behind that, in a solar flare.

I'm curious as to how we can have connected health without some sort of monitoring system? We will be a populace separated from each other. There will be no Asgardia hospital (at least at first). The most vulnerable Asgardians will be those in remote and poor regions. It is these people we must connect to (and most closely watch)

There's already ethical questions with regards to external technology, internal will only compound this issue. To take the fitbit as an example, there's already been at least one case where the data collected was useful in providing medical care that saved life, however the data collection policies of the associated services are such to represent a breach of privacy on an epic scale. All of the data collected has potential for use in an abusive capacity, not to mention rights to this data are erroded completely. It gets even worse if you allow them access to docile media accounts, obviously. There's also legitimate security concerns with such devices - exploits already existing to convert movements into keypad presses when inputting PIN numbers, typing on a keyboard etc therefore providing a keylogger, the acellerometer is sensitive enough to take the raw data feed it through an algorithym and pull back human speech from the vibrations, making it a portable listening device etc.

I think we are beginning to see the start of something great with connected health and how lifestyle/activity is nearly automatically tracked via smart devices like wearable technology. However, as things progress there will inevitably be the ethical question of nanotech inside the human body monitoring for subtle changes in physiology

What is the main aim of this topic? Just discuss modern features in area of telemedicine and their application for Asgadia or something more deep, like research for example? As for discussion I can say that telemedicine can be used in a few primary ways: 1) wearable devices that monitor main health parameters (ECG, pressure etc.) and can call for a help when that parameters are critical or just periodically send information to the doctor which will monitor health state of the patient during rehabilitation etc.; 2) or with augmented reality that will help during operations or some extreme situations, it may help rescuer to be a little bit more "a doctor".

Hello all, I'm a specialist of lab automation and I think that we will face with lot of difficulties during medical lab automation. There are few: - Liquid dosage. Most actual devices use gravity force to drop liquids into tubes during dispensing. If we will not be able to use gravity we must develop some new approach to automation of liquid handling (it is not only about medical or sci labs, but about lot of liquid handling systems - e.g. coffee machine also use gravity to dispense coffee into the cap). - Since all equipment weights a lot, we must consider 3D printing of such devices. But as soon as we decide to do that, we must keep in mind that some of lab instruments must be very precise. So we need VERY precise 3D printing technology. I thought about improvement of 3d printed ingot by slicing it with laser. It could be quite precise in some cases. - TopicStarter mentioned CRISPR/Cas technology, and it is really cool thing, but we must understand that all genetic engineering requires a lot of reagents, especially native proteins (e.g. polymerase for PCR). Since we couldn't have production of native proteins at space (only in perspective), we will be bound by shipment from Earth. Medical diagnostic sometime must be fast, any delay could possibly lead to death. We must not face supply-block in reagents and drugs. Since, we must develop an automate system to control Storage, to check quantities of drugs and reagents, to make a prognosis for items consumption. Congratulations on the clean and honest campaign, worthy of an Asgardian. In the days leading up to the parliamentary elections in Asgardia, I met people highly qualified to hold a post in Parliament, but for some reason failed to achieve this goal. What I have to say to these extraordinary minds who have not been elected to Parliament is that we Asgardians all have a role to play in building our society. We do not need to be in Parliament or in Government. In Asgard we are all equal in importance. Only the workplace is different. These bright and dreamy minds will be able to assist parliamentarians and ministers by contributing their knowledge to the construction of Asgardia. We need people who are capable, above all, of well-intentioned support to parliament and government, and these people have already shown what they are capable of by taking up leading public office, and they will certainly be asked in a timely manner. This is admirable. Anyone who puts collective interest above private interest is worthy of my respect and admiration.
