La Palma volcano triggers further evacuations. Hundreds more people have had to leave their homes on the Spanish island of La Palma. The lava flow has continued to pose a threat in the area. There are concerns that the Cumbre Vieja volcano could continue activity for the next three months, leaving many more homes at risk on the island of La Palma

For the very first time, these audio recordings offer a new way to experience the planet. Earth and Mars have different atmospheres, which affects the way sound is heard. The Cumbre Vieja volcano on Spain's La Palma island continued its eruption for the 25th-straight day, sending plumes of ash into the air and lava pouring down the mountain slopes as fires smouldered nearby. More than three thousand residents of La Palma were allowed to leave their homes on Tuesday when authorities ended a lockdown ordered after a thick cloud of smoke erupted from a volcano that has devastated the Spanish Canary island. Emergency services told residents in the towns of El Paso and Los Llanos de Aridane to stay indoors, shut their windows and turn off air conditioning units to avoid inhaling toxic fumes from the burning cement plant as it was gradually swallowed by the lava. The eruption which began on Sept. 19 has laid waste to a total area of nearly 600 hectares, according to authorities.

Red hot lava was seen exploding high into the air from Spain's La Palma volcano on Wednesday, while smoke and ash blocked sunlight and reduced visibility. The north side of the crater collapsed on Sunday causing spectacular explosions. It occurred after two newly opened cracks formed late last week, creating different paths for molten rock to take down the mountainside. Roughly 1,000 buildings have been destroyed since the eruption began on Sep.19 and 6,000 people have been evacuated, mostly from the towns of El Paso and Los Llanos de Aridane, two of the main population centers on the island of 83,000 people.

La actividad del volcán de La Palma sigue siendo intensa. Su erupción, lejos de remitir en su intensidad, continúa expulsando lava, ceniza y gases tóxicos.
