Death penalty? That's a little extreme. Nobody is going to space anytime soon, and even if we were ready to go tomorrow, that kind of solution would make me want to stay on Earth without regrets. But of course, I guess that was pretty much ironic. At any rate, there's a Civic Asgardia that is actually serving as a _de facto_ government and as organizer of a significant part of this effort. I support this initiative, which I've been a part of until very recently. My concern is that there's nobody checking on said group of volunteers. If something happens, who will be held accountable? I felt accountable for my actions throughout my entire experience, and also felt a great pressure on my shoulders, especially when dealing with disruptive individuals. I'm advocating the need for an independent group, a much smaller one, elected by citizens or chosen at random from a pool of candidates who wish to participate. Twelve members, plus a chairman/woman would be a good number. Said chairman would act as a coordinator and not as a leader; role would be purely administrative, and his/her vote would count only in case of a deadlock. Each member of this group, including the chairman, would remain in charge for six months, then everybody will have to step back and let others replace them. As already said, the purpose of this organism would be purely oversight. It would review decisions taken by management, weight in on important decisions, settle grievances and so on. Of course, the members of this group would have to do so by taking in consideration the will of the community.

Interesting topic. **I applied as moderator, translator and developer for Asgardia**. Therefore, I think **I'm definitely in the category of the potential despot "leader"** who could eventually "crave and enjoy limelight". As a developper, we have one simple solution to handle this particular issue of not trusting a 100% our peers ; It's called peer-review. And I strongly believe this should apply for moderator as well. In programming, any coder can add any code on any project he has write access to, usually stored on a Store called Github (or alike). When a programmer does something new, like modifying code on an existing project, their modification is -usually- peer-reviewed, but also logged and kept as archive. Thus ensure that anyone who has a read access to the project can see what has been done, when, by whom, and exactly what as changed. This, is how developers ensure code reliability, security, mentoring, rollback, and more. Because if any developer can add **any backdoor he wants at any time** then your product can be **screwed big time. Right?** #### Why don't we try to take the same approach here? Any mod would be able to see any other mod's activity, private messages* and actions. Basically what he has posted, what he has closed, moved, deleted, replaced, whom he has banished, for what reasons, etc. But users wouldn't be able to see such things, only mods and admins. Then, you can ask: "Who's gonna be watching the watchers then"? Well, first, they're gonna watch each other, maybe have some kind of daily/weekly activity summary. Note that this doesn't allow mods to watch admin users, but I don't know if we have even more than one admin, and don't know what that account is used for either, maybe it should be watched too, maybe not, depends of its use, hard to tell. Mods watching mods is a first step, one I judge necessary. But what if all mods are perverted? (unlikely, but looks at your government and hum... ) Then maybe we can go one step further by allowing, for a short period of time, standard users to watch the mods activity, maybe some king of roll, like a week long or so. * About private messages content, I'm a bit concerned about... well... privacy. I think it's better to allow read access to them, but the mod should be able to somehow lock some of them so that no one but an admin could look into it, after all we are'nt supposed to have too private relationship with anyone in the forum, but maybe some people do and would like to keep it that way. Also, in some situation, it may be useful. I guess we could add some kind of flag to a thread (PM) which would lock the content of the discussion, and to whom, but other meta data should be accessible (like the date, number of messages, etc.) If a mod as too many locked emails, another mod could raise a flag and ask and admin to look into it. Or maybe PM should not be readable at all, after all, they're supposed to be private in the first place. I value privacy. A lot. I don't like the idea of people being able to read everything I do at all. But I know it's a good way, if peer-review is correctly done, to avoid such scenario of moderator trying to shine too much. I have been moderator/admin of some forums/gaming and I can tell it's easy to use the extra rights we are given for the wrong reasons. Sometimes we even believe it's for the good reasons. We're all human after all, we all make mistakes. Peer-review allow both the review process, and the correcting process, AKA mentoring. --- On Facebook on the other hand, I have less ideas. It won't allow us to do the same as I proposed here AFAIK. I feel like it would be much more complicated.

@Giuseppe Da dire che tanta gente, al 99% non tecnici, identifica "internet" con le cose più svariate, da Google a Facebook, passando per le homepages dei siti dei Provider (che, guarda caso, vengono settate come default pages dai software di connessione degli stessi, ingenerando l'equivoco). Per quanto riguarda FaceBook in particolare, sul quale è in corso una (non solo) mia "[**piccola polemica**](https://asgardia.space/en/forum/forum/asgardia-news-9/topic/website-update-and-new-contest-announced-4399/?post=20773#20773)" con la "direzione" tramite gli admin, da un lato comprendo benissimo il *motivo* per cui è stato creato un "*gruppo FaceBook di Asgardia*" (la gente la devi andare a pescare dove sai che c'è), dall'altro *non ho assolutamente nulla da eccepire* sul fatto che una persona (capace di intendere e volere) voglia "*accedere a FaceBook*" (AKA *regalare i suoi dati personali a Zuckerberg*, che poi li sfrutta per farci "quattro soldi"). Mi *dispiace*, invece, quando "*il management*" (cioè coloro che attualmente vengono chiamati gli "*officials*"), per mezzo degli admin, annuncia iniziative ***di Asgardia*** che vengono condotte *** esclusivamente su FaceBook***, da un lato dando per scontato che *tutti* abbiano questo immenso piacere, appunto, di regalare dati a Zuckerberg (ed, indirettamente, al governo americano via NSA), e dall'altro *escludendo* de facto parte degli asgardiani da un'iniziativa di Asgardia . A questo potrebbe fare eccezione, ma non ne sono sicuro, @RebekahBerg, che è un'impiegata di una ditta, tal "NGO Asgardia" (di cui non si conosce quasi nulla di ufficiale al momento), quindi qualcosa di più di una semplice volontaria (ed, in quanto tale, "lead admin") la quale dice di agire col placet del "management".
