NASA to the rescue

As for stopping the asteroid itself, or preventing its collision with Earth, NASA has two techniques in its arsenal, first of which is interception with a kinetic impactor.

This basically means hitting the asteroid with an object in order to slow it down. If done soon enough (i.e. years before the predicted impact), slowing it by less than an inch per second would be enough to change its trajectory so it passes us by.

Another technique involves using a gravity tractor , a spaceship or another object that would travel near the asteroid and affect its trajectory using its own gravity pull. In fact, this technique may soon be tested in real-world conditions: NASA’s ARM, or Asteroid Redirect Mission, is described by the agency as “a robotic mission to visit a large near-Earth asteroid, collect a multi-ton boulder from its surface, and use it in an enhanced gravity tractor asteroid deflection demonstration.”

Which Legal System Should Asgardia Adopt?

The results from the poll titled: “Do you think Asgardia should have a transparent legal system?”
The results stand at almost 100% of the polls 172 participant (at time of writing) agreeing with the statement.
While we all seem to agree that we would like to see a transparent legal system little debate has occurred on the type of legal system we would like to adopt.

There are currently four 4 main distinct “types” of legal systems in operation across the world:

Common law is generally uncodified. This means that there is no comprehensive compilation of legal rules and statutes. While common law does rely on some scattered statutes, which are legislative decisions, it is largely based on precedent, meaning the judicial decisions that have already been made in similar cases. Civil Law, in contrast, is codified. Countries with civil law systems have comprehensive, continuously updated legal codes that specify all matters capable of being brought before a court, the applicable procedure, and the appropriate punishment for each offense. Such codes distinguish between different categories of law: substantive law establishes which acts are subject to criminal or civil prosecution, procedural law comprises the rules by which a court hears and determines what happens in civil, lawsuit, criminal or administrative proceedings., and penal law establishes the appropriate penalty. Customary law, in its simplest form, is a body of rules, unofficial and generally unwritten, established through cultural or societal norms. When a society considers certain behaviors or practices so common as to be required by law, whether officially recorded or not, those beliefs establish the basis for customary law. Religious law refers to the notion of a religious system or document being used as a legal source, though the methodology used varies Pluralistic systems where one or more of the above are used in conjunction to create a unique system wikipedia Pluralistic systems for further examples and where they are used for clarity. *** Which one do you think would best fit Asgardia, given what we see in the Draft Declaration of Unity and the Asgardia Concept page, and your personal thoughts and feeling.
