Members of Parliament met digitally for the first time in 0004 (2020) officially with the Chairman of Parliament, Lembit Opik. The meeting launched with a brief new year greeting and outlining the agenda of the day. The Chairman outlined the confirmed schedule for key parliamentary meetings throughout the year which included full-day legislative working sessions, multi-day digital sessions for debate and voting, and in-person events that will take place spring and fall of this year. The month of May will be a busy one for Asgardia events with the Law and Citizenship Conference that is currently being organised with further details being released in the coming weeks. During this event, the biannual Asgardia Executive Congress will take place as well as a digital sitting of Asgardia’s Parliament. Chairman Opik also formally announced to Parliament the appointment of Dr Lena De Winne as the Head of Administration. MP Bridget Kielas-Fecyk gave an update on the steps of having an Asgardia booth at her city’s fairgrounds, support and promotional materials that she was working on creating, and commented that she was looking into the logistics of creating a parade float. Chairman Opik commended her on her efforts and commented that she was laying the groundwork for how in-person promotions for Asgardia could be done in the future. MP Cheryl Gallagher gave an update about the Asgardian Parliamentary Space Art Competition and that they have received quite a few entries for it and that they are looking forward to announcing the winner once the competition is completed. MP Gallagher also briefly outlined an initiative that is currently in the development stages of live digital performances and introduced the special guests in the session, Jim Lawton the lead member of the band “Electric Enemy” and their manager Guy Stanway who is also the owner of Red Sun Records. Mr Lawton treated the MPs to a brief performance of his original song “Are You Afraid” which was well received by the group.

Most people think no further than their own death. Politicians are worse. They think no further than the next election. We need a new way of thinking. A cross-generational mindset.
