There is a lot going on in Parliament ahead of the upcoming Sittings - and as outlined in our previous update - there is going to be a core focus on building up the Nation’s economy so that we can start to implement important Government services and strategies that are paramount to helping people get into space. In this update, we’ve been speaking with Fernando Jimenez Motte, the Chairman of the Manufacturing Committee about his legislative proposal for the Asgardian Institute of Standards, what it is, and how it will help build a strong economy for our Nation by delivering an Asgardian Standard. The Asgardia Institute of Standards Establishment Law AIS What is it? The Asgardia Institute of Standards Establishment Law is a Legislative Proposal that has moved forward in the Parliament achieving more than 30 signatures. The purpose of this Law is to regulate the procedures and principles regarding the establishment, organization, duties and powers of the Asgardia Institute of Standards (AIS). This law is intended to be a cornerstone of Asgardia’s manufacturing functions. AIS has been established in order to make all kinds of standards for space activities, materials, products, procedures and services. Only standards accepted by the Asgardia Institute of Standards are called the Asgardian Standard. The Institute is the establishment of the Ministry of Manufacturing. Why is it important for Asgardia? We are preparing our Asgardia Space Nation to celebrate and sign very important projects with the global manufacturing industry. More than 200 hundred countries represented in Asgardia Aerospace will have to go through a homologation of standards in order to understand the same definitions and standards. How do you see it working? Let´s suppose that Asgardia is to undertake very important aerospace projects with agencies like the Mexican Aerospace Agency, Brasilian Aerospace Agency or Europe´s Aerospace Agencies -- definitions will have to go through the process of certification and approval to indicate that it meets regulatory standards and specifications, such as safety and technical requirements. This process is called homologation. The duties of the Asgardia Institute of Standards AIS are: a) To ensure that all standards are prepared. b) To accept the standards prepared within the Institute or by other persons and institutions as Asgardian Standard if it is found appropriate. What benefit will it bring? Let me explain that with an example: Europe tend to use the ISO (E), European Standard, while the USA uses the ISO (A) American. For example, if you want to handle an aerospace project and it must refer to units of weight, Latin América uses the kg metric system while English countries use the pound. Russian space corporation Roscosmos issued a statement about lunar missions and its plans to use 3D printing structures built from materials found on-site. Roscosmos announced that it will use 3D printing and local resources for creating a lunar base. It also plans to launch the construction of large-scale structures. The term 3D printing still referred only to the polymer technologies in most minds, and the term Additive manufacturing AM was more likely to be used in metalworking and end-use part production contexts than among polymer, ink-jet, or stereolithography enthusiasts. Plastic is a specific polymer and now play a major role in the aerospace industry, for both technical versatility, as well as having exceptional strength and weight advantages. Plastics in a variety of forms, including polymers, laminates, and flame retardant materials, as well as tooling design, have contributed significantly to the current innovative state of the aerospace industry. So far any business which supplies this valuable and rapidly expanding sector, achieving AS 9100, the specific quality standard for the aerospace industry, is now an essential step, demonstrating throughout the supply chain that safety, reliability, and confidence are top of the priority list. The Asgardia Institute of Standards AIS will support the Minister of Manufacturing in dealing with the homologation process between industries and Asgardia. Will it be given its first reading this year? It depends on how this important law advances through the legal process inside the Parliament. It is highly desired that this Law will be discussed between Government and Parliament in our next Digital Sitting in order to get this important legislation settled this year. Asgardia must accelerate the transfer of added value to its global network market.
