Nation Builders recently voted on what our first 'Space Project' would be and the results are in! While it's clear that I have no technical skills with VR Development or Unity in general, I was really happy to get stuck in and start learning some VR fundamentals. Over a million followers! Under two thousand members! Well, hats off to all my fellow members, but I'm beginning to feel like Diogenes wandering around with his candle. I've even been asked to stand for mayor locally, though everyone nearby seems to be a follower rather than a member, so not enough support there. I'm trying to remain positive about Asgardia, but I am fighting the feeling it is prone and slowly dying. Maybe Asgardia was easy for me: father from one country (large tribe), mother another, born in a third, raised in a fourth. I never understood boundaries. I never understood tribes. I never fully understood patriotism if it meant killing others wholesale. I never suffered from xenophobia. Like the sci-fi stories and films where we have to unite as a species to survive, or to get anywhere good, I have always been for anything that brings folk together. Surely there can't be only two thousand of us? We really need to stop fixating on the million followers. When push comes to shove, they'll evaporate.

Year day, new year, old year day - whatever you want to call it, this is a time for both endings and new beginnings. And along that theme, I have an announcement to make about my position in Asgardia. With effect from the 31st of December, my contract with Asgardia will expire and I have decided to take this opportunity to pursue an official position in Asgardia's governmental structure and run for Mayor. After working with Asgardia for two years in a range of functions from Public Relations through to Digital Marketing, I have been uniquely positioned to see 'behind the veil' and I am more inspired and confident about Asgardia's future than ever. The Nation has an amazing team of passionate people who are working tirelessly in the Parliament and Government to crystallise this vision into a reality. First and foremost, I want to offer my thanks to our Head of Nation - without his vision and dedication to Asgardia, none of this would be possible. I want to thank everyone that I have had the pleasure of working with, especially the Minister of Information and Communication, Lena De Winne who has served as my mentor and principal point of contact during my time working for the Nation, The Chairman of Parliament, Lembit Opik whom I have worked closely with to promote Parliament, The Prime Minister, Ana Mercedes Diaz who has been a constant source of inspiration and all the members of Parliament and Government who I have had the honour of serving. I am not speaking lightly when I say that Asgardia has changed my life and I will never stop working for the Nation. I intend to really ramp up my activities in Asgardia in the coming year and I will be looking to meet with as many driven Asgardians as possible to help give people a tangible way to connect and contribute to the development of Asgardia. So with that said, thank you and I'll see you out there - Let's get to work!

I live in a country where its citizens have just voted for an illusory and ill-remembered past. It might once have been an Empire, but so were many other countries, once upon a time, each built by exploitation, subjugation and deceit. Today, among the loud donkey-braying of those who honestly think they have won something instead of losing nearly everything, we will now remove ourselves from our many neighbours. This action will reduce us as people even further, but it will also ensure we become the USA's 51st state in the years to come. Looking at this, then looking at Asgardia's one million plus members but only two and a half thousand residents, I cannot help but wonder: are we as a race slowly drifting off back to sleep? Caring is not political. Philanthropy is not an aberration. Health care and climate change are not about finance, or left and right leanings. If we don't collectively get our act together soon (very soon), maybe we should do the universe a big favour and die out. Either that, or build an ark and get the hell out of her ASAP.
