This will be my first entry.

Today (9/7/18) marks my discovery and enrollment of and in Asgardua.

A rather strange idea. A space kingdom with no king? A nation with no land of its own?

Intriguing, to be sure.

The constitution mentions unity, dignity, and equality. These ideas seem fine at first, but a thought occurs. What exactly does the document mean by these terms? I will have to look into this.

I wonder what the future holds for this "country."

One Year Later- Nearly a year later, now you're 4, and still growing.  At the time I made the first post last year, I uploaded some family photos for the Asgardia-1 satellite.  You've now been floating in space for the past year or so, and the satellite will remain in orbit for at least a few more years.

A lot has changed in the past year, you've grown bigger, stronger, more independent, and the personality and similarity to your mother is uncanny.  Keep on growing, enjoy life, and most importantly, never stop learning.

I am Qhami, and i have very many wide views about the universe. I wholeheartedly believe in the mission of Asgardia, and i aim to be an asset among citizens of our growing space kingdom. Unity is of essence in the true success of a species, i expect to be reaching places like Mars or even the Trappist-1 system.

The objective of “ Control of TCP muscles using Takagi–Sugeno–Kang fuzzy inference system ” is to control the force of a Twisted and coiled polymer (TCP)  actuator in a short period (i.e., small settling time), without applying high voltage and without breaking the actuator. In addition, the controllers must run in a commonly available digital microprocessor/microcontroller using analog to digital converter (ADC) and digital to analog converter (DAC) for practical implementation. Moreover, the controllers must be robust and work in the presence of sensor noise and disturbance. Our methodology is to use black-box system identification to find the order of the actuator, model the system as a discrete-time state space system, estimate the state space parameters with the prediction error method (PEM), use a digital PI controller to ensure a robust closed-loop system and short time to steady-state, and use Takagi–Sugeno–Kang (TSK) to design a faster digital controller.

There are four important target in modeling and control of TCP actuators:

(1) Determining the force of an actuator in response to voltage for different geometries,

(2) Modelling the system in observable form and discrete-time,

(3) Designing digital controllers

(4) Increasing the speed of actuation without decreasing the actuator lifetime.

Within the Asgardian constitution there are plenty of things worth keeping but also plenty worth revising and, in the interest of the best accommodation of our citizens' well being and governmental engagement I encourage Asguardians to support a shifting of our democratic structure to a Democratic Confederalism.

Democratic Confederalism, as a system, is inclusive of any political, ideological, ethnic, and religious standpoint. It uses this diversity to make the entire Confederalism stronger. A working example of Democratic Confederalism already exists among the Kurds in Rojova and seeks to allow stateless peoples safety and prosperity. While, as Asgardians, we are not stateless, we face many of the same challenges as stateless peoples and will continue to, even once recognized by the UN due to the unique nature of our nation.

As Democratic Confederalism is not well-explained without reading many books by Murray Bookchin and Abdullah Ocalan I will summarize it here as an Democratic Confederalist Asgardia might appear.

A Democratic Confederalist Asgardia would contain the following levels of government:

Community - Consisting of between 30 and a 400-500 citizens, dependent on geographic and social/ideological commonality

Neighborhood Council - Consisting of 7-30 Communities and whose membership would be the board members of each constituent commune. In Asgardia a Neighborhood could include multiple cities.

District Council - Consisting of all Neighborhood Councils within a language group consisting of the board members of the Neighborhood councils. NGOs and political organizing would occur at this level.
National Council- Consisting of all Asgardian and comprised of a 11 representatives from each District.

At the district level all of the following committees would exist. Neighborhood Councils and Communities may also have some or all of these committees based on the needs and interests of their constituents:

Defense Committee - Concerned with the protection Asgardians and their property.
Economics Committee - Concerned with the economic prosperity of Asgardians.

Political Committee - Concerned with governmental procedure and participation as well as fair representation.
Civil Society Committee - Concerned with public works and services, providing for Asgardian needs.
Free Society Committee - Concerned with individual freedoms of Asgardians and ensuring governmental action does not infringe on these freedoms.
Justice Committee - Concerned with policing and court systems and ensuring a just Asgardia.
Ideology Committee - Concerned with promoting the values and goals of Asgardia and its mission.
Committee - A committee established to represent the interests of a Minority group within Asgardia which might otherwise be neglected by the democratic process. One of these committees would interact with all the other committees to ensure fair treatment. The establishment of these committees would be decided by the council of a given governmental level.

This bottom up structure would create locally managed communities, able to coordinate and take care of themselves, while still maintaining a national identity and drive. However, such a structure does not work well for establishing laws which all Asgardian may agree to and to address this a separate federal structure is needed, made up of the already constitutionally extant, Legislative, Executive, and Municpal branches of the government. However, to ensure fair representation, no more than 40% of seats in the Parliament may be held by a single district.

In this case, the majority of public policy is managed within the Council structure via direct democracy and the task of the Parliament is primarily to establish and revise legal frameworks that all Asgardians will operate by. As such, laws from the Parliament would tend to be specific and universal. Granular policy is the work of the councils who are most directly impacted by and therefore responsible for them.

Likewise the Executive would be responsible for enacting the laws of the parliament as well as the assisting with enacting the decisions of the National and District Councils.

To finish, this proposed framework is also predicated on a majority vote system. This is due to the unfortunate side effect of consensus voting which is to silence opposition. By requiring consensus a committee, council, or the Parliament itself inadvertently silences those who do not disagree, either because they do not wish their disagreement to inhibit the functioning of government or because they are bullied into compliance. In either case, this leads to the silencing of differing view points and the homogenizing of ideas. The strength of a decentralized nation is in its diversity and demanding consensus will only stifle that.

Hi! My name is Alys. I live in a town called Arlington, in the state of Washington. My fiance and I are on a working hippie-run farm with a small collective of like-minded people. We raise beefalo for meat and chickens for eggs. Our house is an old city bus named Helios that we've redesigned to be an RV. We camp a lot, hike, and are outdoors more than we're in. Our home is shared with a pit bull named Mac and an adopted rat terrier named Trigger.

I'm a digital artist and I also process, spin and weave wool. I build computers as a hobby, and usually end up fixing quite a few too. My fiance is a great mechanic and has worked in the aerospace industry in the past.

I joined Asgardia for a few reasons. First, I like the idea that I can be part of a nation in space. Second, I really like the constitution. I'm also very interested to see what the nation can teach me. I think Asgardia has a lot going for it.

I am so excited to be apart of this community. To some, a space kingdom may sound silly, but when we look at the future of our existence as a species does it really seem that farfetched? Yes it may just be an idea (and a satellite) currently, but you must start somewhere.

As a whole, our species must ask some larger questions than I feel are being asked currently. One is, what does the future of humanity look like?

There are more and more people that see the advantages of moving beyond being a single planetary species, and in many ways is the best way to ensure the survival of our race. Top members of the science community agree that we are running out of time on Earth (at our current rate of population growth, fossil fuel usage, reckless destruction of our natural world, over farming, etc. we are basically a ticking time bomb) and they are looking now for other options.

We are on the cusp of technology that will take us to other planets, probably within the next 2 decades. Elon Musk has said many times what his intentions are with SpaceX. "Fundamentally, the future is vastly more exciting if we're a spacefaring civilization and a multi-planet species than if we're not," Musk said. He ambitiously said in an update of SpaceX's plan this year that they hope to send a manned ship to Mars as soon as 2024. "The timeline Musk gave was ... two cargo landers would land on Mars in 2022, with four vehicles launching in 2024. Two of those 2024 ships would be crewed, meaning, in Musk's timeline, humans could walk on Mars in just seven years." Think about that for a second. A million people. A million people on a planet with at that point a corporation that runs the show (until others stake claim). Total Recall anyone? Now I believe that Musk would set up an ethical society but who knows? What if it is someone else who isn't looking out for their citizens?

Either way, we are headed to the stars.

There are handfuls of other companies and individuals actively pursuing the goal of moving us beyond Earth. Stephen Hawking himself it working on a project called 'Starshot' with the goal of sending a probe to reach Alpha Centari. "With light beams, light sails and the lightest spacecraft ever built, we can launch a mission to Alpha Centauri within a generation," Hawking added. "Today, we commit to this next great leap into the cosmos. I believe it is important, vital even, to start thinking of the future and our place in it now.

I figured that a new home would also be a good place for a new start- it's my hope that this blog serves as a time capsule of sort for family or friends who read it, specifically my daughter.  If a day comes where you are reading this, you're 3 years old now and always growing.  You have a curious mind and love to learn about the world around you.  No doubt if you found this place, something led you here, perhaps the same sense of exploration and curiosity that your father has.

As things continue to change in the US, it's important that people give themselves a presence, even if it's only symbolic.  On that note, you have 3 places to call home- the US (from your dad), Canada (from your mother), and Asgardia.  One day, through the efforts of many, you'll be able to see that Asgardia has become more than just a name- it's truly a place for those who want to really venture into another place, and one day, another world.
