So, DARPA's got a new space test vehicle their working on, with plans to deploy by 2020. They've got some great goals for the craft that will help get more equipment/satellite's into orbit. Check it out here: http://www.space.com/36982-new-experimental-space-plane-design-released-by-darpa-video.html

@Dirk, I absolutely agree. That's probably why I find the fascination with SpaceX's 1st-stage system. I just about drool watching their launches and their tech. It's an amazing feat doing what they do.

So, in the past two months, we've lost 2 very dear friends of ours. One, an adopted mom, and the other a good man that was great at capturing life with his camera. It hasn't been easy, and sadness affects everyone differently.

In the future nation, we'll ...

One can have dreams of a space viking burial - burning on a free reentry - or shot directly into the sun.

But recycling a body on a space station is a more practical and reasonal approach.

Jun 13, 17 / Can 24, 01 09:30 UTC

Well that's six of six posters of a single mind on the subject. A small cross section of Asgardia, but still fascinating that we share this outlook. Makes me feel good about how Asgardian culture will develop.

Anyone feel different?

Jun 13, 17 / Can 24, 01 09:30 UTC

if I remember correctly, the reasons why burial was originally used was due to the impact of the dead upon the living: disease.

I was giving consideration to how to deal with dead Asgardians while on board the space station specifically dealing with the odor and potential ...

Happy-sad day, Asgardians. A current space traveler is getting ready to end itself amazing journey. The Cassini probe is starting it's gravity-assist orbits to now enter a new orbit that will essentially, seal it's fate to crash into Saturn. But before it does, it's new flight path wil take ...

So, here's a question I've long considered after reading "Sphere". I'm wondering what the possibility of creating a suit, or pod design for spacecraft to encapsulate a person with liquid. This would allow them to take extreme amounts of g-forces without blacking out, or suffering injury. I know that the ...

Inertia is another key point - in things like Star Trek they have "inertial dampeners" which is what makes it possible for the ship to make such high-G maneuvers without throwing the crew that isn't strapped down across the bridge, or liquifying when the ship jumps to warp and the ...

That might be a possibility for long-term missions. I'm just wondering about the short-term. Did anyone ever watch the show Babylon 5? Their fighters had 16 thrusters. Growing plants in space has been proven and is being tested by NASA, however what would be the main protein source in a self sufficient station, crickets, soy, or could we raise animals in space?

Until we can build environments that are equivical to Earth, there's not much sense entertaining long term habitation. By setting up lots of "smaller" independant "farms" then it's possible to diversify to the point of producing every agricultural goods, and done "right" it can use pretty much the same processes ...
