They say that the planet has become seven kilometers smaller, today than when the surface of Mercury was hardened four billion years ago. Large pits have been found on the surface of Mercury. Some of them are hundreds of kilometers long and up to three kilometers deep. These pits are believed to have been caused by asteroids and comets colliding with Mercury related astronomical events. Mercury has no natural satellite or moon of its own. Apart from this, strange wrinkles are found on the surface here. These wrinkles are known as 'lobate scarps' and these wrinkles can be up to a mile high and hundreds of miles long.
