Professor Stephen William Hawking was born on 8th January 1942 (exactly 300 years after the death of Galileo) in Oxford, England. His parents' house was in north London but during the second world war Oxford was considered a safer place to have babies. When he was eight his family moved to St. Albans, a town about 20 miles north of London. At the age of eleven, Stephen went to St. Albans School and then on to University College, Oxford (1952); his father's old college. Stephen wanted to study mathematics although his father would have preferred medicine. Mathematics was not available at University College, so he pursued physics instead. After three years and not very much work, he was awarded a first class honours degree in natural science.

In October 1962, Stephen arrived at the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics (DAMTP) at the University of Cambridge to do research in cosmology, there being no-one working in that area in Oxford at the time. His supervisor was Dennis Sciama, although he had hoped to get Fred Hoyle who was working in Cambridge. After gaining his PhD (1965) with his thesis titled ' Properties of Expanding Universes ', he became, first, a research fellow (1965) then Fellow for Distinction in Science (1969) at Gonville & Caius college. In 1966 he won the Adams Prize for his essay 'Singularities and the Geometry of Space-time'. Stephen moved to the Institute of Astronomy (1968), later moving back to DAMTP (1973), employed as a research assistant, and published his first academic book, The Large Scale Structure of Space-Time , with George Ellis. During the next few years, Stephen was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society (1974) and Sherman Fairchild Distinguished Scholar at the California Institute of Technology (1974). He became a Reader in Gravitational Physics at DAMTP (1975), progressing to Professor of Gravitational Physics (1977). He then held the position of Lucasian Professor of Mathematics (1979-2009). The chair was founded in 1663 with money left in the will of the Reverend Henry Lucas who had been the Member of Parliament for the University. It was first held by Isaac Barrow and then in 1669 by Isaac Newton.  Stephen is currently the Dennis Stanton Avery and Sally Tsui Wong-Avery Director of Research at DAMTP.

Professor Stephen Hawking has worked on the basic laws which govern the universe. With Roger Penrose he showed that Einstein's general theory of relativity implied space and time would have a beginning in the Big Bang and an end in black holes (1970). These results indicated that it was necessary to unify general relativity with quantum theory, the other great scientific development of the first half of the 20th century. One consequence of such a unification that he discovered was that black holes should not be completely black, but rather should emit 'Hawking' radiation and eventually evaporate and disappear (1974). Another conjecture is that the universe has no edge or boundary in imaginary time. This would imply that the way the universe began was completely determined by the laws of science. Recently Stephen has been working with colleagues on a possible resolution to the black hole information paradox, where debate centres around the conservation of information.

His many publications include The Large Scale Structure of Spacetime with G F R Ellis, General Relativity: An Einstein Centenary Survey , with W Israel, and 300 Years of Gravitation , with W Israel. Among the popular books Stephen Hawking has published are his best seller A Brief History of Time , Black Holes and Baby Universes and Other Essays , The Universe in a Nutshell , The Grand Design and My Brief History .

Professor Stephen Hawking has thirteen honorary degrees. He was awarded CBE (1982), Companion of Honour (1989) and the Presidential Medal of Freedom (2009). He is the recipient of many awards, medals and prizes, most notably the Fundamental Physics prize (2013), Copley Medal (2006) and the Wolf Foundation prize (1988). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a member of the US National Academy of Sciences and the Pontifical Academy of Sciences.

In 1963 Stephen was diagnosed with ALS, a form of Motor Neurone Disease, shortly after his 21st birthday. In spite of being wheelchair-bound and dependent on a computerised voice system for communication Stephen continues to combine family life (he has three children and three grandchildren) with his research into theoretical physics, in addition to an extensive programme of travel and public lectures. He still hopes to make it into space one day.

CEC Announcement

On the conclusion of the space nation's parliamentary elections

ASGARDIA.                                                      In accordance with Decree No 14 by the Head of Nation from 1 February 2018 (4 February 0002 by the Asgardian calendar) and Article 48 of the Constitution of Asgardia, the Asgardian parliamentary elections have concluded on 9 March 2018 (12 March 0002).

The preliminary list of candidates who have met the mandatory requirements in accordance with the previously published Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Regulations on the Final Round of the Parliamentary Elections is included in the attachment.

If any of your personal information is incorrectly reported on the preliminary list, candidates are asked to immediately write to elections@asgardia.space. They must put "Elections - correction" in the subject line.

Candidates who have submitted guarantee letters for payment of the registration fee must pay the said fee by 31 March 2018 (6 April 0002) to confirm their candidacy. In case of nonpayment of the registration fee by the stated date, the guarantee letter is voided.

During a two-week period, the Counting Commission will check the voting logfiles, confirm their legality, and the absence or determination of the occurrence of falsification during the election. The Counting Commission will present the results of its work to the CEC by 31 March 2018 (6 April 0002).

In accordance with Decree No 14 by the Head of Nation, the CEC will present the draft of Decree No 16 to the Head of Nation, "On the results of parliamentary elections of Asgardia."

During the coming weeks, voting results will be checked by the Counting Commission. The final results will be announced on 1 April 2018 (07 April 0002).

The final voting round  takes place 1-9 March 2018 (4-12 March 0002 by the Asgardian calendar).

More than 650 Asgardians from more than 80 countries have proposed their candidacies for review.

The Regulations for the Final Round were published by the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) on 27 February 20018 (2 March 0002).

• All Asgardians have the rights to nominate themselves.
• Self-nominations will stop at midnight Paris time on 26 February 2018
• Those who have nominated themselves cannot make changes to their profiles or platforms after this time
• During the profile check, any inaccuracies (incorrect first name, last name, mistakes in the date of birth, education, etc.) may be the basis upon which the Central Election Committee removes the candidate's nomination

  In the French district, I voted for all nine candidates. My votes are given to the four candidates for whom I voted most recently.
  In the English district, I voted for three candidates (fewer than the 71 seats in Parliament), so my three votes are given to the three candidates.
  In the Russian district, I voted for six candidates (while the number of seats for the Russian district is five), so my votes are given to the five candidates for whom I voted most recently.
• There must be a "Confirm Vote" button that is assigned a higher priority than the timing of the last vote. This button must work during the period of 1-9 March. Voting with this button only works if it does not exceed the maximum number of seats in a given district.
  Example:
  I am from the French district, where the number of Parliamentary seats is four. In this district, four Members of Parliament will be chosen out of nine candidates. I am not nominating myself, only voting for others.
  In the French district, I voted for all nine candidates. I voted for three of them twice -- that is, I voted for them the second time by using the "Confirm Vote" button.

Associate Professor Sebahattin Devecioglu CV

Sebahattin Devecioglu was born on May 19, 1968 in Elazig, graduated from Gazi University, Faculty of Education, Physical Education and Sports Department in 1990 (Ankara).

In 1996, he completed his master degree at Institute of Health Sciences, Department of Physical Education and Sports Program at Firat University, and started to working there as a Research Assistant at The Department of Physical Education and Sports ( Elazig / Turkey).

After his national service, started his Doctoral Program at Gazi University, Institute of Health Sciences Department of Physical Education and Sports and started to work as a Research Assistant in 2002 ( Ankara / Turkey).

Consequently, he was appointed as a lecturer at Firat University upon completion of his PhD. He is founder and Head of the Department of Sport Management and Assistant Professor in 2002-2010. After completion his dissertation, since 2013, he is continuing his academic tenure as an Associate Professor at Firat University, Faculty of Sport Science, Department of Sport Management ( Elazıig / Turkey).
