It has dawned on me that I share very little information about myself as a government candidate and believe it would be beneficial if Asgardians got to know me a little better. Here I will be listing who I am, what I stand for, and why I am a government candidate today.
Firstly, I am a Canadian-born citizen, having lived here for much of my life with travel experience outside the country. I am of a non-binary gender, more accurately defined as genderfluid. My parents are an RN (registered nurse) and a retired teacher who now works with an athletics business and community. I was also raised by a university history professor, national athletes, historians, and artists. I am the oldest sibling of three children, as well (not including step-siblings).
I had specialized in law and business/accounting courses in high school, alongside artistic classes. I especially wanted to learn different languages when I got to university, no matter how bad at the courses I might have been at the time. Otherwise, English literature and psychology was what I would focus my time on in those days. After a massive strike from the university's faculty, I left school and pursued in the local workforce, operating in retail and my own business management as a hobby. I have been a part of several different types of businesses since then, learning and developing my skills for life.
Outside of the professional world, I enjoy reading, writing, digital illustration, video gaming, and gardening. I have taken a particular interest in playing and hosting D&D (Dungeons & Dragons) sessions in the community, including volunteering as a panelist in gaming conventions. One of my proudest achievements was being featured in The Lord Beaverbrook Art Gallery as a featured artist when I was about 16 years old. The image travelled to many different galleries around Canada before returning to me over a year later. Some art pieces went as far as Germany, I had been told. I am currently working on a comic book series in passing, spending my artistic energies towards the project that I've so aptly named the HACH Project, or HACH-P as I'm known on Youtube and twitter (@ScuroA). It even has its own alphabet and language (which can be found in my earlier blog entries here on asgardia.space). It's a long way to go before any sort of publishing stage, but I hope it will titillate some minds in the future.
Let's get right down to the ugly stuff that some people tend to focus on during any sort of elections; what are my moral and political views? I have mentioned time and time again that refusing to talk about the uncomfortable topics doesn't help us as people, or a nation, develop better policies. When it comes down to views, you could say I'm a liberal-minded individual. I agree with a free health care (mental health included) and education concept, of course insisting that spending for those areas be balanced in other sectors. I believe in the right for a person with a uterus to decide for themselves what they want to do with their body, as I feel it is a human issue rather than a political issue. What I mean is the courts should not be the ones deciding what a uterus does, but that the individuals that have uteri should be the ones in control of that part of their body. And yes, I am a pro-choice person, meaning I am not pro abortion, but rather, I believe we are in control of our own bodies and nobody else should have that power.
Gun control is a popular topic of debate, and they didn't call me the "devil's advocate" in law class for nothing. I grew up with guns amidst hunters and farmers in the rural countryside. I understand the need for food and protection out there. I also understand the need for law enforcement and the military to possess such weapons possibly. However, I also agree with registering weaponry. I don't want to "take away [your] guns", as the usual complaint goes, but rather regulate the system so we know that Mr. Smith uses his gun for security and hunting at the cabin, while also knowing that Mr. Doe was the one registered to the gun that terrorized and killed a family in an attack. It's a matter of balance and benefit for everyone, safety being the top priority.
Next point: environment. Although it is safe to assume that there a lots of Asgardians that agree with me here, I am supportive of climate change reform. Programs, habits, technology, and education that support a collective effort to reverse and repair our environmental damage to the Earth is one of the most pertinent subjects. I am a fan of the efforts of business folk and volunteers that develop new technologies to make our planet cleaner and healthier, all while still being convenient. Global warming is a real issue that we all need to take a little responsibility for. After all, if we want to live off of Earth, we need to master sustaining our planet first. My favourite form of clean energy is geothermal, by the way.
As justice is a huge part of my campaign, I would like to make a note here that each crime should be looked after in a case-by-case basis, updating our laws and policies constantly as needs be so we do not end up with outdated or uninterpretable codes in our justice system. I have mixed views on capital punishment (the penalty of death). There should be some consistency of sentencing regarding similar cases, no matter their political, financial, racial, national, or lifestyle factors. It should not matter who you are, whether you're a celebrity, CEO, janitor, MP, or streetkid: if you commit a crime, the punishment should be the same for all people who commit the same crime.
Closely related to the subject is the idea of separating church and state, and I agree with that policy. I, myself, was raised as a Lutheran Christian, but I had developed an interest in all sorts of different spiritual paths as I grew older. To put a label to it, I might be defined as Agnostic or an Omninist (believing that there is some truth to all religions and spiritualities, but also respect that they are very different too). What you or I do in our spiritual time has nothing to do with government and justice, and it should stay that way. Whether you believe in God, Allah, Satan, Horus, Anubis, Hecate, the Mother Goddess, Buddha, Madoka, Haruhi, Atlantis, Aliens, not sure, or nothing at all, we are all human and shall be treated as equals under the nation's values. Respect is earned, not forced.
See, no matter my views, I have a bad habit of seeing both sides of the story, two sides of the same coin. In a world full of unique instances and technicalities, I believe it is important to have an open and unbiased mind in positions of power and leadership.
I look forward to hearing from you all during Government elections time, and I eagerly anticipate your support. I will be running for the Ministries of Justice, and Information and Communication during this time and hope you will have me as a representative in Asgardia's first ever Government.
