An official ceremony took place today at UNESCO headquarters in Paris, during which Asgardia’s Head of Nation Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli, an active supporter of space science development, signed an agreement to institute a new UNESCO prize and medal in the science category.

The prize and five medals will be awarded annually for contributions to the development of space science. Signing on behalf of UNESCO was Irina Bokova, its Director-General, and the first woman to lead the organization.

Also present were Alexander Kuznetsov, Russian Federation’s (RF) Ambassador to the Permanent Delegation to UNESCO, and RF’s Ambassador-at-large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Eleonora Mitrofanova, a former Permanent Delegate to UNESCO and former Chairperson of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

UNESCO’s honors are currently comprised of five awards, three prizes and four medals. This agreement marks an important addition to the existing categories.

We've just reached another milestone, with 250,000 people registering to become part of Asgardia, its mission and its future. The leading countries of origin are, respectively, Turkey, China, the United States, Brazil and Italy.

Almost 60,000 people have already ratified the Constitution, which allows them to proceed to uploading a file to Asgardia-1 and sending it to space, where it will stay forever.

The Asgardia-1 satellite has been safely delivered to Nanoracks, a Webster, TX-based provider of commercial hardware and services for the US National Laboratory onboard the International Space Station. It is currently securely stored under five locks in a facility with surveillance and a monitored alarm system.

NASA-mandated tests have been successfully conducted to ensure the satellite's safety: its batteries and power systems were tested; it passed a vibration test, which simulates vibration during launch; as well as the vacuum chamber test, which ensures that the satellite survives in the vacuum of space.

Nanoracks sent a line of code to the satellite, to which Asgardia-1 responded, "Hello, world!"

Please remember to upload your files to the satellite before 22 July 2017, as the next opportunity to do so will be after deployment, currently scheduled for November 2017.

With almost 250,000 people who registered for Asgardia, the nation-state’s population has now jumped to 183 ^rd among the countries of the world. Asgardia’s population has now surpassed that of Mayotte, Samoa and Saint Lucia.

More than 55,000 have become citizens by accepting the Constitution, almost 7,000 uploaded their files to the Asgardia-1 satellite, and 4,242 are participating in the leadership elections.

The new Constitution of Asgardia, released earlier this month in English , has been translated into six more languages. It is now available in Turkish , Spanish , Italian , German , French and Russian .

As a reminder, accepting the Constitution means you, as a citizen, can now vote on national symbols, upload your files to the Asgardia-1 satellite and participate in the leadership elections.

Naming a star is old news – you can now give your loved one the sense of being ever-present in space by sharing your storage on the Asgardia-1 satellite.

After accepting the Constitution, you will be granted storage space on Asgardia-1, due to launch this fall, and you can upload text or photos. The first 1.5 million people can send their files for free.

So take your loved ones, your friend, your schoolmate along with you for this journey that begins your permanent presence in space. It is a present that is, quite literally, out of this world.

Asgardia has broken the 50,000 record -- to date, 51,594 Asgardians voted to accept the new Constitution. Those who have accepted the Constitution have the power to bring about change by submitting petitions to branches of Asgardia's government.

The new Constitution allows Asgardians to put forth legislative proposals and initiate referenda. It can also be amended. As Head of Nation Igor Ashurbeyli said on 13 June 2017 at the press conference in Hong Kong,  urging Asgardians to vote for the Constitution as presented, "(i)t may change many times, the same as our Asgardia space humanity will change".

Accepting the Constitution allows Asgardians to then vote on the national symbols, upload their files to the Asgardia-1 satellite, thus permanently establishing their presence in space, as well as nominate themselves or vote for others in the leadership elections.

A Russian businessman is readying to launch a data centre into space in August this year, in what is certainly one of the most ambitious projects the data centre industry has seen in recent times. The project is part of a much larger idea which started in 2016 with the announcement of the development of a pacifist nation-state in space. “Asgardia will become a place in orbit which is truly ‘no man’s land’,” those involved in the project said during its launch as they hope to gain recognition from the UN in the years to come. Those interested in entering Asgardia will go through an admission process, and could potentially gain citizenship to the “nation-state”.

Asgardia has revealed that it will be launching its first satellite data centre into space in August, in the form of a small CubeSat. The data centre will measure at just 10x10x20cm, at a weight of only 2.8kg. The Asgardia nation was set up by the Russian computer scientist Dr Igor Ashurbeyli, and has had almost 200,000 verified citizens gathered from around 200 countries. After the development of Asgardia last year, over 500,000 applications have been received from people that have registered to become citizens of the first ‘space nation.’ According to Ashurbeyli, the first 100,000 people to sign up will be able to transfer 300KB of data into space.

After the creation of Asgardia was announced in Paris last October, more than 500,000 applications were received within the first 20 days, the team behind the project has revealed. The numbers were so high it forced a change of the rules for those hoping to become part of the visionary plan to establish a new space nation with its own constitution and laws. Asgardia switched to a stricter system that filtered out children registering without their parents' permission, duplicate applications, people who refused to provide required information, and non-human internet "bots".
