I have both, bought into the SC development scheme to the tune of $100 to have a private ship and all the gubbins that went with it, SC was unplayable till I spent a load on a new GPU and .... then I stopped playing it, it was so confusing, graphically nice but still in development so that wore me down as well.
And I have always been a fan of the Elite series, again did a bit of trading, a bit of flying and then found something else to play, I'm thinking I may go back to Elite again now I've finished moving house and re-found my joystick.
Once (in my youth) I spent 26 hours straight (not including bio breaks and tea breaks) to play the originals on the ZX Spectrum (now THAT'S showing my age).

Having bought a fair new PC, so to have reasonable performances while playing WoW, I'll try SC even, so to see if they optimized it from what I've heard. ;-)
If someone wishes to test his machine, just try (for free) SecondLife, which is not (only) a game but terribly heavy on the comp.
