Because every branch and most units have awesome and easily recognizable iconography (Such as the EGA for the Marines, the winged dagger for the SAS, or the golden eagle of the GSG9). If you guys are feeling up to the task, how about we brainstorm some iconography for the Asgardian Defense Forces? Just to throw some categories out there (For organization's sake)

Asgardian Defense Forces: The all-encompassing title for anyone, be they security, rescue, etc.

Asgardian Rescue Service: Combining aspects of traditional civilian SAR, the Coast Guard, and PJs. Also capable of VBSS, as if a ship goes dark, they need to be prepared for space terrorists when they go to rescue the ship.

Asgardian Crisis Team: Responding to emergencies, performing damage control and civilian rescue.

Counterterror-1: Because space-terror is going to be a thing, that's just inevitable, we need to be prepared.

Asgardian Security Forces: The general security officers. Highly trained in conflict resolution, security, and guard major junctions and sensitive assets like generators.

Asgardian Intelligence Agency: Providing intelligence regarding incoming asteroids, potential terror threats, and other dangers in space.

Asgardian Naval Security: Specialized in providing security on Asgardia's fleet, where any possible threat can be catastrophic to its crew and passengers.

I enjoyed reading your topic here, especially the category name ideas. Iconography is important, but some of your categories could have abbreviations for their icon like the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI.) One of the categories you could do something like that to is the Asgardian Crisis Team, abbreviate it to ACT. I'm assuming the Asgardian Crisis Team would almost be like firefighters and paramedics; maybe if it was to be abbreviated, on their patches the "T" in "ACT" could be a red cross.

Hopefully, this topic will be discussed heavily.

I really don't think "space-terror" is going to be a thing really at all. We're (supposed to be) intelligent. We should be able to outhink firms like MI6 and CIA easily and have any potential action mitigated easily.

Should have 1 more organization which is something like men in black. Sorry for my poor English.

When interaction with other species is a confirmed eventuality, maybe, until then it doesn't particularly merit much thought.

What little thought I have put into it questions that unless you suggest we impose ourselves upon and begin policing them, in their own territories, why cannot the existing defense forces structure cope?

Just look up anti-colonial extremists. We can get a lot of flak from them, or even just people who want our resources or to extort our government for money. The reason regular officers of the defense forces won't be able to is because they aren't trained or equipped to. If every officer was trained in counterterrorism and walked around in tactical gear 24/7, that might put our citizens, our primary concern, in a state of disease, in addition to raising training times to an absurd high. We need people who are specially trained above and beyond and can respond to such deadly situations with precision, fluidity, and skill.

But I digress, the point of this isn't to discuss if we need a CTU or not, this is for iconography.

Once again, I'm seeing posts by you advertising for intelligence and still... The problem with acting after encountering a problem is the time we lose in the process. Issuing preparation for defense purposes after encountering other, dangerous life forms might result a fatal outcome in the process of not being ready.

You might actually want to consider thinking, instead of blindly worshipping intelligence.

By the right definitions of intelligence, planning for such contingencies would be assured.

However, until we actually have need for, setting up a specific section to deal with - along with iconography, badging, specialist equipments etc - is considerably a waste of resources in the effort.

And still, considering how hostile humans are, why would our existing defence forces structure simply be unable to cope?
