Please add "Change Password" fields in the My Application Page to enable users to change their passwords.

Using the "Reset Password" option is causing some confusion for some users.

How about implementing some semi sensible auth mechanism, like X.509?

Users can be trivially educated as to why this could be a potentially "better" method as easily as they can be taught to generate certificates.
